Ukraine needs to rotate her troops away from the combat zone. The biggest issue Ukraine has had with mobilization is that they are concerned about demographic collapse 10, 20, 30 years down the road. Their population only started recovering from the combined effects of the Soviet era and post-soviet chaos around the mid-2000s and early 2010s. Ever since Euromaidan and the nearly 10 years of war before the full RU invasion, they've been losing what little gains they've made in the working & childbearing age cohort. Mobilization is a choice between saving their country now and jeopardizing any possibility of future prosperity. Even with her much greater population, you can already see the beginning effects of demographic collapse in the RU from their mobilization. It will be much worse in 20-30 years, UKR is trying to avoid that. One could argue that the one of the main reasons UKR was in a vulnerable enough state that RU considered trying to influence/annex/invade them is because of the depopulation efforts instituted by the USSR.

To save the country it was necessary to make an agreement with Russia in 2022, and even better - not to bring the matter to war, to fulfill the Minsk agreements approved by the UN Security Council.
@fematrailer
@fematrailer 28 күн бұрын
@user-vu2oz1vv1p That doesn't have anything to do with my comment, but what you're basically saying is that, in order for UKR to save their country, they should've agreed to allow RU to destroy their country and violate their sovereignty. Doesn't make any sense. RU could've done nothing in 2022 and still had de facto control over the Donbass and Crimea and both RU and UKR would've both been fine. RU had no pretext for invasion in 2022 other than the territories they took in 2014-2015 during an invasion which they also had no pretext for. RU fucked up by invading, and then doubled their fuckup by being terrible at it.
@user-vu2oz1vv1p
@user-vu2oz1vv1p 28 күн бұрын
@@fematrailer Ukraine's sovereignty was already violated after Russia took back Crimea, your fantasies that Russia wanted to destroy Ukraine are not supported by facts. I agree that Russia had no reason to launch a full scale invasion, but Russia had demands on Ukraine regarding NATO that Ukraine refused to fulfill. This was confirmed by David Aarkhmia, head of the Ukrainian delegation at the Minsk and Istanbul talks. Of course, this invasion did not produce the desired result, but the Russian army has not been defeated and continues to advance. Ukraine has suffered enormous damage, tens and maybe hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have died, many cities have been destroyed, Ukraine has a huge foreign debt, this is what the saving" of the country has led to.

Strange discussion - If Ukrainians want to fight Russians every man should serve military. If they don't want to serve, Ukraine should go to the negotiation table! Second would be better !
@WangMingGe
@WangMingGe 28 күн бұрын
Maybe they want to resist Russia, but just don't like the current leadership. It has happened in a war before that soldiers were happy to fight under one general, but not under another. Remember General Syrski is a Russian, born in Russia. Very unpopular in Ukraine. Remember, too, we are talking about a highly educated population which is being drafted at relatively mature ages (even 25 is older than the draft for WW2 or Vietnam). Not wanting to serve a particular general or president does not mean wanting to surrender to Russian rule.

@@thumtlnguyen3626 BS. Zaluzhny was in overall command, not to mention all the other commanders.. Also, given that the Russian forces were in grossly insufficient numbers to capture Kyiv to begin with (normally an attacking force should outnumber defenders at least 3 to 1 as per NATO doctrine, or even more in Soviet doctrine, to have a decent hope of capturing a defended position; the Russians themselves were several outnumbered), almost any moderately competent general should have been able to succeed at that. If you don't believe, well, I refer you to the numbers in the doctrines of every major military, as mentioned above. Now that the Russian is in charge, we lose town after town in rapid succession. You should also check what Ukrainian people think of him. Look at the comments on Ukrainian news. If you cannot read Ukrainian, translate them in Google. Ukrainians hate this guy, especially for his reputation for wasting our troops..see his nicknames "butcher" and "general 200" (soviet code name for cargoes of dead soldiers returning home), which we have given him precisely because of his casual attitude to the lives of his troops. Or, maybe, you think you know better than 1) the Ukrainian people and soldiers complaining, 2) both NATO and Soviet doctrine per defensive operations.

Sure, a volunteer professional army would be great, but it's a little too late to be planning a professional well trained army based on good salaries and well maintained and up to date equipment. Wouldn't you agree? The Russians will be in Kiev at this rate by Summer 2025 or much sooner if TRUMP is elected. The West will NOT commit troops with the faint possibility of France, and that is doubtful. What will happen is that Russians will expect the Residents of Kiev to Speak Russian and adopt a Russian Passport. If the Kiev civilian population resists, then they will be grossly marginalized in favor of Russian speakers, their salaries cut and benefits cut and may even face forced deportation to some Far East part of Russia. It has happened before. And of course in the face of further movements to take Western Ukraine, the Russian's will forceable conscript the Ukrainians to fight against their own people in the battles that follow against Lviv and eventually Moldova and parts of Romania that have a Russian component. Any part of Europe with a Russian Minority will be agitated to seek first independence like the People's Republic of Donetsk and Luhansk were, then given the opportunity to take Russian passports and vote for becoming Russian. Crimea was just another Example of the process of Ethnically Cleansing and changing the legal status of a region. Now, maybe you have plans to become Russian too? Maybe you don't care who is in charge? Both sides are equally corrupt and inefficient, so the choice seems to be fight or leave or SURRENDER. Surrender is an option that you there may not be realizing. Perhaps the West has already decided to support a partial reduction of land in exchange for 50 years of Peace. Now that would be something to see Russia actually follow those terms. Once Russia has the land, then it will reconstitute the manpower and install the political leaders and rebuild and rearm their army and then off to Moldova quite soon enough.

Russia literally tried everything before invading Ukraine. It has no bloody need to invade other countries, and Putin is a notoriously passive and stagnant politician, hence why original invasion of Ukraine was so limp wristed and he kept trying to negotiate peace again and again until Zelensky shut down all negotiations.

"Go and defend the country!" Say the ones who are not defending the country. But why would you go to war for people who failed at deplomacy (which ultimately caused this mess) and now want to keep the war going in order to not let a good tragedy go to waste? If ukrain lets itself be influenced by the west and refuses to have peace talks then that means that everybody who goes to war is a fool. The war has been only going into one direction and it will continue to do so unless a clear line is drawn. That's called "cutting your losses" and it's what reasonable people would do.

This is exactly why many Americans are against further aid to Ukraine. If you can't get any of your own people to serve in your armed forces, why should Americans risk our money and quite possibly, troops lives to save Ukraine? In the US, you're required to register for possible conscription at 18.
@BaumerPaulGefreiter
@BaumerPaulGefreiter 29 күн бұрын
I hope that you are right and that this is the main reason. However, Americans should also see that helping Ukraine is beneficial to America itself - if Ukraine is gone, other Eastern European countries will transfer to the Russian world shortly. Their markets will then be lost to America. Countries like Bulgaria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary are on the brink even now and consider what will happen if Russia prevails. Probably only Poland would remain in the pro-American camp from the central/eastern European region. And not only will we be lost to the US, we will even become its adversaries. Russia will turn us into enemies of the US, like it did after 1945.

@@BaumerPaulGefreiter It's hard to mobilize support when the support is so lackluster by those most affected (e.g. Europe). @@elevotv you would be correct about a year ago. European military aid is surpassing US contributions. U.S. military aid bill has been stuck for 5 months. the whole point of giving ukraine military aid is so that the U.S. doesn't have mobilize people for war because the ukrainians would have the ability to fight. They can compensate for having less soldiers by killing more Russian soldiers with more artillery, tanks and missiles. If Ukraine Falls, Russia will know that the west is too weak to stop them militaryily because they're too cowardly to give enough weapons to ukraine to fight, how can western societies have enough courage to fight an actual war when a NATO country is invaded.
