2 жыл бұрынA unique day on Ullswater, Cumbria, 18/12/2021. We might have been in dense fog but it quickly cleared to reveal a totally smooth surface on the water and amazing mirror images of the surrounding mountains.

Why is flat water kayaking a sport of the old? Seems like 90% of the videos support this as well as hundreds of other kayakers I've met, who like myself are north of 60. The other thing I can't figure out is, how does everyone manage to paddle on 'mirror' like calm water. Every time I go out the winds and currents are always going against me in both directions! 😮 p.s. beautiful video

I started kayaking in my early 40s (67 now), I figured it was a good compliment to my road cycling plus I just liked getting away from people and enjoying nature. There's always something new to learn. While paddling home in a stiff headwind, the lesson was, "Bitching doesn't help".

Nice. Just got an inflatable kayak. What's the situation with kayaking permits in the Lakes? Do people get them?

Not aware of 'permits' the main issue is parking / launch spots. New hobby?

Yes, kids are pretty young so will be just fair weather paddling for us
