@@reynardadrian9345 To be fair, there is some argument to be made for efficiency of scale. Your increase in armour weight squares, but your displacement cubes, that's how he can put a 25in belt on that thing. Although obviously, superlarge ships like these have the big shortcoming of being a single ship. You can build this, but from the same amount of material you could also build four large battleships, and they can be at four different places at once, while this only at one.

The wideboi should actually have an excelent turning circle, as resistance to turning is your length to beam ratio. (IOW, it's not pushing water out of the way to turn itself, so it should rotate about center mass like a top) What the wideboi should have is absolutely zero SPEED. Meanwhile, the Repulsive should have be bobbing side to side in the waves from having such a poor height to beam ratio.

The crazy russians actually built round warships. They were almost uncontrollable because of the lack of resistance to rotation. Think of a hot air ballon. It is susceptible to the wind direction and can do nothing against it. The lack of speed meant little force from the rudders, so they steered with different propeller speeds, which made the circle even slower. When I first saw this I thought you had made a fatal boo-boo with the Novgorod and she would get hooded in seconds - while the Repulsive is a wall and everything hitting it will almost certainly hit the belt and explode, hence massively armouring the belt, the Novgorod has barely any belt above the waterline so most shells hitting it would hit the DECK and explode - yet you armoured up the belt rather than the deck.... As it was, the game's mechanics saved you - Novgorod kept getting hit on the 'deck' and the shells exploding, but they counted as belt hits. Replusive also kept getting hit on the upper belt and the shells exploding and it was counting as deck hits.....

So it seems the game does not really model the projectile trajectory and figure out if it hits, but rather assigns a certain amount of deck/belt hits and then creates the shots. Otherwise we would have expected a ton of deck hits on the flat ship and only belt on the tall ship.

I don't know how projectile trajectories are calculated in this game, but IRL the immense difference in chance to hit would be of same order of difference: radar measures distance by looking at return signals from the *vertical* profile of something and calculating how long it took the signals to return. The Novgorod is a rather low ship, so for radar it would be a small profile: not a lot of signal would be returned. At some point you need to start take the Earth's curvature into account. The ship would disappear behind the horizon and radar can't see it anymore. Though Repulsive is probably high enough for the radar horizon to be 100 miles or something. The Repulsive is any radar operator's dream. It is so large that anything could pick it up from anywhere, resulting in very high accuracy measurements.
@gvii
@gvii 2 жыл бұрын
The Novgorod would make one heck of an aircraft carrier. As long as you don't have to turn to get wherever you want it to be. As for the Repulsive, umm... I guess you could hide the rest of the fleet behind it. And see really far. Though I would love to know what that thing is using for ballast, and how much of it. That is absolutely hilarious. The lifeboats on the Novgorod are cracking me up...

About a wall being more hitable than a small moon XD, it actually makes a lot of sense. At long range, shells come at shallowish angles (say around 30°). Now take a piece of carboard, look at it at 30° from the vertical vs at 30° from the horizontal. The less angled one will obviously have a much greater cross section... In a nutshell, draft is cringe and you want a lower profile. It's also great for saving on belt armor for long range or having it thicker for short range.

at *short* range it's shallow angles. Long range is higher angles.
@antaresmc4407
@antaresmc4407 2 жыл бұрын
@@5peciesunkn0wn at short range the angle is very shallow, a couple degrees only, but at long range it wont get wider than 40° anyway, at 45 you even start to lose range and accuracy suffers quite a bit even earlier. Also more elevation is much more expensive in cost and weight and hurts protection... At any rate, those "higher" angles are only comparatively, as they're still fairly shallow at very long ranges and very shallow at anything less. And if you look at the game, you'd be hard pressed to find a roughly vertically falling shot ;P There's a reason deck armor was always thinner than belt even for long range designs too :P

@@5peciesunkn0wn again, even at max range of most turrets, it doesnt get that wide and it does theoretically max out at 45°, which is pretty acute if you ask me, anyway. Could you do an H-44 versus a 1940s version of a Tillman/Maximum Class BB? Obviously a 1916 or 1917 BB of any type would stand no chance against the H-44. I was thinking you could use the Tillman IV, and while there are no six-gun turrets you could try to do 6 four-gun turrets in an abc xyz layout, though if that wouldn’t fit on an American hull you could turn unlock all on and try to fit it on another nation’s hull (you will probably have to increase the displacement, but that will just put it more on par with the H-44). If that didn’t work you could use one of the other Tillman designs like the IV-1 or IV-2. You would have to take some liberties with the armor scheme and secondaries but I think it would still be a cool matchup, it’s not like you have a solid design to go off of for the H-44. Make sure it carries Super Heavy shells and an increased compliment of shells.

Cons: large waves may cause the ship to fall into the sea due to them being very very harsh. A mobile island got space for aircraft, elevators, a small city, and transportation from place to place. I get the impression that the game is statistically modeled rather than physically modeled from the way shots still kept hitting the side of the Novgorod.

The round one would be a great floating airport. And the tall boi would also be a gread carrier as the planes woulnt need to decend.
@filippe999
@filippe999 10 ай бұрын
That actually makes sense, since the Novgorod is so low and wide, most hits on it at close range would be at low angles which make penetration harder, if they can't penetrate the deck, and at long range you better incoming angles but the distance saps a lot of the power of normal HE. As for hitting the repulsive, unless she is facing her target straight on, she's showing a close to perpendicular wall to the enemy which is easiest to pen

But the shots hitting the Repulsive‘s "wall" aka the Belt get deflected, while the ones hitting the "flat top part" aka the Deck get through.

1. Ships with wider beams actually turn a little easier than ships with narrower beams 2. Repulsive is more visible than Novgorod because Novgorod probably disappears below the horizon at long ranges and have you seen the freeboard on Repulsive? Would not surprise me is she could be spotted halfway across the world.

Video review: In this video, KZfaqr Stealth17 Gaming plays naval sim game "Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts", a game that lets the player design their own World Wars era warships. What makes this video stands out from other gameplay videos of UA:D is that its author made use of the game systems to create two quite humongous and hideous warships, one shaped like a gigantic pancake, the other like a very tall fence. Like all videos of this kind, it starts with an introduction in the dockyard, where Stealth17 explains its creative process as well as the reasoning behind the designs of these ships. The intro is a bit long but will not deter fans of the channel. Newcomers may be tempted to skip to the chase, however, for viewers not already familiar with the game mechanics may not be interested in knowing that ship A couldn't be fitted with a torpedo belt or that ship B weights 30 thousand tons. That said, the intro is not so long as to bore anyone to death, and even has enough humor in it for everyone to crack one or two smiles, and so we will rank it as "acceptable". The main dish of the video, as it were, begins after a few minutes. As always with videos about UA:D, the rythm is quite slow, but hopefully viewers know what they are in for. This is a naval game, after all, and not a fast and nervous FPS. Commentary is sufficently concentrated in the first half, but becomes inevitably sparser near the middle, as there is only so much information you can give before running out of things to say. However it sparks back up in the second half. Indeed, such unconventional ship design apparently gives Stealth17 some insights about some of the game inner workings, that he is then able to share in the video. There is no real conclusion, and the video ends rather abruptly, although its author does take a few seconds to give the proper good-byes as well as a hint as to what his next video will look like. All in all, like all UA:D videos, this video may feel too long for people not already sold on the game's idea; but for players familiar with the game, it should definitely be worth a watch, for the quite unorthodox ship designs if nothing else, even if some parts of the videos can feel emptier than need be sometimes and can be skipped harmlessly, especially near the middle of the actual fight. A tighter editing may have made for a shorter but more exciting video. Then again, this kind of "experiment" videos could be considered a sub-category of "let's play", so editing out parts of the video may rub some viewers in the wrong way, and this is something that we are aware of. All the same, our ranking for the video as whole is: 7/10. Good ideas, decent execution. We acknowledge that it is a severe score. Thanks for reading and see you on some other KZfaq video.

The issue with the Novgorod is that increased beam gives you increased ricochet chance... you practically made it invulnerable.

I want to see if you can use mods to build a 1vs50 brawler with modded weight limits so you can pile on enough armor to steam right into the middle of a formation and trade face punches at close range. Im talking something with better than 60 cannons of 5-11 inches and more than 50 inches of armor at the thinnest point. Something designed to get in close and dish out damage at minimal range while shrugging off the hits.

Can you make a ship that is wider than it is long? Like, instead of having a 200 meter length and a 30 meter beam, it has a 30 meter length and a 200 meter beam.
