40s technology probably cannot hold it together at that speed because it is such a big boi. The Shimakaze consumed as much fuel as a battleship as a 40-knot DD, but even she has nothing on this one

What the game is lacking are some newer Torpedo Boat hulls like the PT 71, where such a ridiculous speed is not that ridiculous. Cheap, small, fast. Other than that Warthunder has some Hydrofoil Crafts. At least the existet at that time.

I feel like with campaign, it' be a good idea to have a task force composed entirely of 40+ knot ships, with a battlecruiser thrown in there to give it some bite. It would serve as an extremely fast reactionary force, both independently, and by being able to rapidly bolster a slower task force.

I remember reading about a British fast cruiser. She was built for minelaying, the plan was to nip in after it was too late for the luftwaffe to respond, and be far enough away by dawn that they couldn't be attacked. IIRC she was designed for 46 knots and could go faster. They were often used as fast transports. In the Falklands war, the US were moving a carrier group to the area to pressure the British, and one of these came up behind it, enroute themselves. The yanks, not wanting to be shown up, increased speed. Finally, the carrier was pounding along at maximum speed with what escorts could keep up in that sea state and the cruiser came past with the nautical equivalent of a cheery wave and a "we'll see you when you get there" signal before haring off into the distance.

Ships like that would do well in targeted convoy attacks. As far as the campaign goes, I’m betting it won’t be seeing even the most basic of campaign until we’re well into 2022.

Mostly because they still think you need boilers to raise steam, or that diesel engines don't make much power at the kind of RPM it constantly reaches

Very impressive! I’m surprised none of the comments mention the super high speed “cruiser” Wirbelwind from the Naval Ops series since she was also capable of 70-90 knots depending on the game.

OH MY GOODNESS I just built my own version of this (it had 70% engine efficiency :P) and that battle I just had against a light cruiser was the most fun Ive had in UAD in a long while! dodging gunfire, missing my first double torps, stalling while desperately reloading, swinging in for a final attack without smoke and half my ship flooded, fixing the flooding just in time to get within 2km just when my smoke came back, rushing in at max speed and launching my torps just outside their priming (non exploding) zone (1/4km i think) and one shotting that ship. Most fun ive had in a long time in UAD

Try placing the funnels across the beam, it can allow more deck space either for even more funnels or any armaments (if you don't have any already)

I don’t play at all, but it makes me think of the sneaky bois submarine kill teams you made in that wwii game you were playing a while back. Send two of those with a group and use them to prey upon transports maybe, or in the assassin group you mentioned. Use one to lay a smokescreen and strike from it with the other one. It’s certainly the only ship you can use that will keep up with one.

the hyper fast DD might still work well and possibly better at 50 knots which will still pretty much outrun anything and just might offer up a degree of survivability above better firepower. at such speeds, gunnery is still going to be Aim optional! so focus on Torps with the best and fastest type you can load leaving the single mount 2" popgun just for giggles or the odd Transport. as part of a larger fleet action, it could be deployed as a headhunter running in a stand alone division of 3-5 ships that can use their speed to flank the opponent who is already engaged with your other elements allowing them to dash in and dump a pile of Fast Torps before executing a rapid withdrawal under smoke to reload. the alternative would be Convoy Raider in the Campaign as these ships are cheap compared to a CH or BC needing far less resources to operate as well as a much faster build time. I can accept engine efficiency in the mid/high 90's if it gives me 1 more twin Torp launcher.

In the interest of nit-picking accuracy, a volley of ten shots at 0.5% hit chance each has a 95.1% chance of completely missing. It's just that sometimes they'll hit with more than one shell in a volley. It also means they'd have to fire fourteen volleys to get a 50% chance to land at least one hit.

0 inches of armor just means there's no armor, there's still the metal of the hull, it just won't protect against anything. Even a pistol round can punch through it at that point.

@@D8W2P4 i believe you might be mixing up hardened armor plate (of which that design has exactly none) and structural steel (which is not made to stop bullets of any kind). And given that it was designed to go as fast as possible they wouldn't be wasting any spare metal on making the hull thicker than absolutely necessary, and while I'm no engineering expert I'm also certain that a hull made only of a single layer of structural steel could be pierced by practically *any* handheld firearm. Because that's exactly what has happened any time anyone has fired on an unarmored ship, no mater the size.

@@Kneb587 As the police that killed Bonnie and Clyde found out in preparing for their ambush, early Ford cars are bullet proof to .45 ACP. Which is just sheet metal for the body, yes thick sheet metal but still just sheet metal. Now while I'm no ship building expert I have seen what ships are made out of and it ain't thin. Nevermind the simple considerations of weight tell me they're gonna need to make the ships out of something heavier than sheet metal.

I found it weird how such limit is not a thing in Navel Academy mode. The displacement limitation is only in custom battle which shouldn't be since it is pretty much free-build sandbox mode.

Hi stealth, can you make a CL kinda like Kitakami at some point. I don’t care what exactly you go for as far as guns, the only requirement I have is that it must have more torpedo launchers (as in the turret as a whole) then gun turrets.

I would want to see a video where you try to build the fastest battlecruiser possible. *Armament restrictions* 3×16 inch triple barrel main guns or 4×15 inch double barrel main guns everything else can be an open design. *Fleets* Both fleets are 1940 Your fleet shall be comprised of 1 BB, 2 BC, 6 CA, 4 CL, and 12 DD. The opposing fleet shall be comprised of 2 BB, 1 BC, 8 CA, and 14 DD from a nation of your choosing.

I mean, battlecruisers being fast is what they are supposed to be. They are supposed to run down cruisers. That's why Battlecruisers are more expensive then Battleships. Pure Engine power

All the Matari mains on EVE be like, "Bruh, you're doing it wrong." But for real, if your ship can will burn down if it catches fire 100% of the time, then not being hit by 99.95% of shells is NOT GOOD ENOUGH, when you consider than it's common for a ship to fire several thousands of shells over the course of 30 minutes. For speed tanking to work, you'd need an average evasion of around 99.995% over the course of an engagement.

Sorry, I haven't bought the game yet. Could you get to 60km without all the funnels? And that would shave the weight? Balance funnels with the arms/armor/tech and just don't turn so much. you'll still get the speed bonus for approach and enemy chance to hit. Still not much to work with, but at least some and some range for campaign. I'll have to try that.

Tried that. Less displacement means less room for engines, even though the ship is lighter. You need the displacement I used.

Why not just use fewer of the heavier funnels which have larger capacity they give you a higher percentage an engine efficiency for less weight if you have to use Fewer

Edit: the standard angled funnel does not offer enough marginal benefit to overcome the weight costs, but I will leave this comment as a hypothetical for discussing funnels in general. Would it not have been more weight-efficient to use fewer larger funnels than several smaller ones? Since the standard angled funnel was only 50% more weight, if it offered more than 50% more efficiency per funnel, surely that would have been the better option, yes?

I did the math on it. The 75 ton funnel (smallest) has the most exhaust/ton at 0,3933 110 ton funnel - 0,3181 exhaust/ton 140 ton funnel - 0,3214 exhaust/ton 156 ton funnel - 0,3077 exhaust/ton

@@Stealth17Gaming Which is why I corrected myself in the edit. I had noticed that your mouse hovered for just a moment over the 110-tonne funnel, and caught that it gave an exhaust value of 35, which is not enough marginal benefit for the weight increase. Also, I understand the desire for the largest weapons possible, but wouldn't it have been better to use a few 21-inch torpedoes rather than two or three 24-inch launchers?
