wow. thanks for featuring my hometown muar. i think this is the first time i ever see a foreign youtuber exploring this small town. and you guys really did your research too. its nice to have someone with such a chill mannerism who did a great research and shoot this with such artistic style. and especially the kopitiam - i remember my dad use to take me there, he will pour the coffee on the small plate so it cool down faster and i can enjoy it. sometimes we use the plate to eat half boiled egg too. that kaya and butter toast bread also looks heavenly. homemade kaya is the best. you cannot get more local than that. thanks for the nostalgia trip haha.

Muars my hometown - thanks for sharing this video. Brings back so many great memories! My grandma ran an old school coffee shop like See Hoi Kopitiam but my grandmas shop was demolished to make way for modernization and newer shoplots which is a such a shame. Next time you order a charcoal/wood toast with kaya, ask for refrigerated butter slices (pronounced "peng chu gu you" in hokkein/teochiew which is commonly spoken there) to go with the kaya, dip it in the kopi-o-kosong before you take a bite and that's heaven right there.

One of the uniqueness in Muar or maybe other parts in Johor, is the Malay-Chinese partnered business model, where the Chinese run the coffee-shops and the Malay selling their food together for years.

Well, you have tasted coffee in Johor. Have you ever tried coffee from the other states?. Well, if you go to Ipoh (Perak State). You should try Ipoh Coffee. They eat it with toasted kaya bread (toast on charcoal grill) & 1/2 boil eggs. If you're in kemaman (terengganu state). You go to kemaman kopitiam right in the middle of the town. They have a branch in kuantan, Pahang. If you are in sarawak state, this is need to try. Kopi Luwak, this is the most expensive coffee in the world. Borneo best selling coffee worldwide.
@FoodandFootprints
@FoodandFootprints 3 жыл бұрын
We have! Ipoh white coffee was great - we tried it at a few of the classic kopitiams there along with kaya toast. We had some nice kopi kampung in Kedah too. Also plenty of coffee in Penang. Unfortunately didn’t get to try Kemaman Kopitiam. Remember reading about it while researching where to eat in Kuantan. Definitely will try lots of local coffee when we make it to Borneo.

We loved seeing the dedication and old school techniques at this kopitiam! Such a special place. Thank you very much for watching! Never thought of that. Remember when the late Anthony Bourdain had that idea in NYC, but it wouldn’t be the same to have vendors leaving their original location to go elsewhere.
