Stan the Janitor does show up several times in the series, being one of the few good points of this show really. In the final season, he gets stuck in the school when the Carnage symbiote takes over. What ends up happening is that he has to team up with Venom and Spidey to stop the symbiote, which is rather awesome. Best animated Stan Lee cameo / guest appearance in my opinion.

Ultimate's strongest element is definitely the villains. I just liked the designs and the voices were pretty good.

Its amazing how marvel DOMINATES the movie scene but its animated/TV show lineup is a colossal mixed bag. While DC is a general laughing stock in the movie scene (with few exceptions) but in the animated/TV scene its.....Spectacular. Ill see myself out.

The Venom storyline in Ultimate Spider-man was disappointing, but what was even worse was when the symbiote attaches itself to Flash Thompson and creates the heroic Agent Venom. Now, I LOVE Agent Venom in the comics, but by that point Flash Thompson had changed dramatically from a bully to Peter's friend to a stagnate drunk to a war hero, losing his legs while saving his comrades from enemy fire in Iraq. When he gets the symbiote he takes his responsibility of keeping it under control very seriously, and when he ultimately loses it he still carries the heroic traits he had before, being chosen to be Eddie Brock's successor as Anti-Venom. The Flash Thompson in Ultimate Spider-man is still a bully when he gets the symbiote, and at first believes his new powers are more of a game until he comes against his first opponent. He lacks the wisdom that his comic counterpart has, and, although he does go about training under SHIELD and overall becomes a better person, the change in personality is jarring. Spectacular Spider-man's Flash would've been a lot better, since the first season did have him as a dumb, conceited, arrogant jerk, but after breaking up with Liz he shows signs of maturity, even going so far as to get the football championship title his team won revoked because he found out Harry was doping at the time of the finals. He even saves Spidey's life by acting as Spider-man when Venom attacked Midtown High. We get NO character growth with Ultimate's Flash. He's just a dumb jock who won the superhero lottery.

Marvel's spider man seems like tried to have the same art style/animation as the recent netflix voltron but didn't have the budget

The introduction of Miles, Gwen, and Anya as Spider-Men made me lose interest. It was WAY too soon. At least Into the Spiderverse is a movie and should be better than this. Laura Bailey is always a win though.

I was at the age of the target demographic for Ultimate Spider-Man, so I enjoyed the show a lot. - In the final season, doc oc gets a new body. I really wish he had gotten it sooner, and not a couple episodes before the show ended. - Stan the janitor became the principle later on, which was really cool When I watched it when I was younger I caught the episodes each weekend and didn't really pay attention to continuity, but I definitely see some flaws now. My absolute favorite part about the show, was the amount of different characters in the show. Maybe it was a little cooler because the show came on every saturday at the same time, so every saturday I would wake up at 8 am to watch Hulk and the agents of S.M.A.S.H., Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Guardians of the Galaxy.

My thoughts on Marvel's Spider-Man have completely changed recently. I used to always think the show was garbage with its unlikeable characters, weak storytelling, and unnecessary changes to details in Spider-Man's universe such as teenage Doc Ock, Sandman's daughter as a recurring villain instead of Sandman himself, female Electro, and the high school Peter goes to called Horizon High. But with the most recent episodes that have been coming out since September of 2019, the show has officially upped its game. The crew behind the show didn't waste a second of their time fixing everything that always made me angry, and sent the show soaring on a high note as a result. I seriously can't wait for season 3 to come out and hope it can maintain the same high quality the last 13 episodes of season 2 had, because this is one of those rare cases where a show has a terrible first half but a fantastic second half to follow up with.

My main problem with modern cartoons is the lack of shadows! especially in marvel's spiderman.

One thing that'll never cease to amaze me is how people that defend against the criticism Ultimate gets often use "it's a kids show!" as an excuse. Just because a work of fiction is aimed at a certain demographic doesn't mean that the creators don't need to put any quality and effort in anything. It doesn't matter who's it aimed at. The Disney and Pixar films have a good number of both kid and adult fans. Even with some stating the quality has declines, Spongebob has been a hit with it's intended demographic and the older ones.

You forgot to mention something about the 2017 Spiderman series: -LITERALLY everyone besides Peter Parker are a better Spiderman than him. Miles randomly gets powers and is randomly better than peter. So did Gwen and the other girl, and that dude that stole the Stealth suit also was better, note that Peter was with spider powers for longer than them, and they all randomly did better for the short period they get the power. From ultimate: yes, flash is much better, and he becomes Agent Venom, so yeah.

ultimate spider-man was pretty much a what if spider-man series when you think about it. spiderman 2017 was a cartoon made to air along with the new movie for spiderman. despite the flaws in both shows i'm still fine with them infact i really like the 2012 series. i definitely think spider-man works better in cartoons when they are its own original thing.

for me Ultimate Spider-Man was a slap in the face after Spectacular Spider-man's cancelation and i was super bitter which caused me to criticize it. Also wasn't a fan of how fast-paced it was. BUT it grew on me a lot, I don't think I actually finished it bc life happened, and maybe I will sometime, but I did enjoy it in the end esp of some of Peter's teammates (Nova became a fav I didn't have before) and while I continuously said Spectacular Spider-Man was funnier/better, I didn't hate USM.

I'll admit that I can't fully hate Ultimate Spider-Man, because I have a bit of a soft spot for it due to growing up with it. But, even without this video, I knew it probably wasn't all that great. Disney's Marvel cartoons are insufferable. I remember hoping that the Marvel buyout would mean an excellent animated universe for Marvel to rival the old DCAU. Boy did that not happen. What makes it hurt worse is that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes happened just before the buyout and was one of the best Marvel cartoons ever, only to be replaced with the forgettable Avengers Assemble.

It's almost jarring how much the Ultimate Spider-man show abandoned its hyperactive fourth wall breaking humor mid-season 2. Afterwards it was far and few in-between. Yes, Spidey still addressed the audience, but it was far less side-tracking. It definitely helped. I was kind of invested in a lot of episodes, especially in season 3 and 4. An early example of a good episode was the one where Spidey helped Hulk though. I genuinly felt like this is how Spider-man should be. Supporting someone even when everyone is against them. Always trying to solve things peacefully while still being funny.

I hear Ultimate improves in later seasons, but I've only seen a handful of the series and that was back when it started/. The only ep i saw semi recently was the Jessie crossover which is of course epic. Haven't seen any of Spider-Man 2017 though.

There’s one thing that particularly pissed me off. In one of the early episodes (I think it’s 5 or 6) Peter fights Black Cat in what’s essentially an episode length version of the scene in Spectacular Spider Man where Black Cat tries to steal the symbiote. From the first scene these two characters are on screen together in Spectacular Spider Man you can tell they want to fuck each other (even if Felicia is way older than him). In 2017 she always seems annoyed when he shows up and Peter clearly just wants to stop her. She’s just a normal thief with luck powers and as a big fan of the original character this really makes me want to punch something and it really shows that this is essentially a worse version of Spectacular Spider Man with a couple of new storylines ripped straight out of the comics.

I actually like the Ultimate Spider-Man show, just not the new, very disturbing Spider-Man series that replaced Ultimate Spider-Man. I actually thought that was the only one that this guy was gonna talk about: the latest version of the Spider-Man cartoon, which SUCKS. *A LOT!*

Personally I enjoyed Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble, and Hulk Agents of SMASH. Lots of crossovers and characters. Doesn't adopt as many comic book arcs as Avengers Mightiest Heroes did though. But I really liked the Spider-Verse in Ultimate Spider-Man. I like that they have Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales in the new Spider-Man cartoon too.

My biggest pet peeve with Venom is when amateur writers forget that he can attack Spider-Man without setting off his spider-sense. That was one of my turn-offs in Ultimate Spider-Man. At least Disney fixed that mistake in the 2017 reboot.

It absolutely drives me crazy that either Ultimate Spider-Man or Marvel's Spider-Man is someone's favorite Spider-Man series. I get it. They did what they set out to do: Get kids to watch Spider-Man. But _they deserve better._ I think that's where all the criticisms come from. The shows are fine. But they're so cookie-cutter. So disposable. We want people to have better. Also, it's kind of like when IHOP told everyone they were going to be IHOb, and then revealed it was just a stunt to get people to talk about IHOP. True, they did get people to talk about IHOP. If that's all you use as a criteria of success, then they succeeded. No such thing as bad press, right? "How can you hate this series? It got people to watch Spider-Man, right?"

(If you are creating a spider-man story, take these notes) 1# You shouldn't introduce major characters like Miles and Spider-Gwen, when Peter needs more development, and make sure that the class students aren't Peter Parker level smart (I know it's a genius school but I don't know a school that has kids who build giant fighting robots..) or else Peter doesn't feel special, at all. 2# Let your stories have more time to bake (E.g the symbiote was introduced in the first season, maybe like ep 6.) because if you don't then major storylines don't have any impact.. 3# Make Peter's actions have impact, like maybe he wouldn't be able to save someone in time so his reputation gets ruined, or that his friends start to dislike him because they think he's lazy..

I actually really enjoy Ultimate Spider Man but I do share your hate for the newest series.

I have watched very, very little of Spidey 2017, but it's absolutely some of the most generic, low-grade stuff I've ever seen this character be associated with. My main exposure to this series was the six origin shorts; between bland art, limp action, and a shockingly poor understanding of what made the origin a timeless tale in the first place, I didn't want to check out the series proper at all after this. After what you've shown, I stand confident in my convictions.

Ultimate Spiderman has a unique identity, which I can appreciate since most reboots don't usually try anything new to differentiate it from previous versions or other works. I just think it got too cluttered by its obsession to include every Marvel hero that ever existed. It worked best with just Spiderman, or Spiderman and a small team.

Talking about that Spider-Ham episode. You make an episode about HUNTING for Spider-Man and you don't bring in Kraven THE HUNTER?! Instead it's Loki. Same Loki who showed up like twice before that episode already. Yup, Loki had something like three appearances before long-time Spider-Man villain Kraven the hunter ever showed up. You want proof this show was to promote MCU rather than Spidey, look no further than that. 16:31 That is actually how it went in the comics the first time Sinister Six teamed up, with the logic of "he's gonna be weaker each he defeats one of us". Doubt it was the intention to reference that.

If I had to adapt any comic into a series I would try to make it its own story separate from the comics. (It's like, what's the point? I've already read this in the comics.) Also, I'd try to pull what Gravity Falls did: The first bunch of episodes are to tell a few stories, introduce the villains and their origins, and set up our location and characters. Personally I feel if all these shows we're combined into one we would have a good teir show.

Here's how I would've made Spiderman 2017: -The story takes place in Midtown High, a real school where not everyone is a genius. -Peter has to deal with everyday problems like paying bills, keeping up with school and bullies like an everyday person. -Doc Ock is a full grown man that sees Peter as a protege and slowly is turned into a super villain by the effects of his robotic tentacles. -Most of the villains would be lesser known villains during the first thirteen episodes with classic villains appearing on the other half of the season. -Miles is a Freshman that wants to be like Spider-man and gets his powers by the season finale. -Gwen is a friend of Peter as well as a friend to MJ, who focuses on becoming an actress and later on finds that she likes journalism. -Harry is friends with Peter and often asks him for help in school. This leads to him wanting to get his father's respect. -Norman wants to become Peter's mentor because he sees himself on him and is secretly working with the criminal element to gain power and profit. What do you think?

You captured my thoughts on Ultimate perfectly. The generic art style, the disruptive 4th wall breaks, and the mostly lackluster action. I don’t actually mind Drake Bell as a voice for Peter. I think he could play a really compelling take on the character given some decent material. I kept wanting to give the show a chance as it seemed to try getting more dramatic over the course of its run, but could never find it in me to spend time on it given how lame the first batch of episodes were. I still haven’t managed to get through a full episode of the 2017. It’s just intolerable.

Remove miles, gwen and anya and focus on Peter's arc and make the audience care about him and then reintroduce them after 4-5 seasons

It's one of the best moments in comics I feel....and then they just don't do anything like that in the cartoon :(

Thinking about which Spider-Man show I grew up with I’ve got to say they were 4: 1) The Animated Series in which I watched reruns on television, this one is certainly the first and the one that began marking my love for the character, alongside the Raimi movies. 2) The New Animated Series/ MTV one: very short, but I really liked the way it framed heroes and villains, and I’ve got to say that that series has one of the most crushing Lizard episodes I’ve seen. 3) Unlimited: the one I watched fresh off the press, this series felt to me like a continuation of the 94 series, so I instantly loved it, being in another earth with different enemies also made me think that it was pretty fun, but maybe not the best. 4) Spectacular: the series that marked my childhood and solidified my opinion on Spider-Man being the best superhero, this was a bit later on in life but I do have to say that it did mark my childhood.

10:37. He Actually did. An entire episode involving Peter and him teaming up to take down the Lizard. Anyway unpopular opinion but I actually really like both these shows. Yeah in many ways they are inferior products to previous Spider-Man cartoons but there is a lot to like about both shows if you look close enough. I know you probably won't be seeing more of either but if you're interested to know both shows got a lot better after their first season. I've always believed that the first season of a show is usually the weakest season. Because it's just starting out and people behind it don't have a clear vision yet Once season 2 comes around it's easier to figure out what works and what doesn't thanks to audience feedback.

Honestly, I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but I genuinely loved Ultimate. It was, believe it or not, my first proper introduction to Spider man and I think it did a great job. It introduced me to so many characters and storylines from the comics and made me appreciate the character. I certainly think it got better in later seasons, especially after the spider-verse storyline. Also... how do I say this without getting attacked... Ultimate's Doc Oc is my favourite interpretation of the character, don't @ me. I just don't really like the Spider man 2 version that much. Also don't worry, Stan did get his own episode in a later season where he was revealed to be an undercover Shield Agent and kicks ass with that broom.

I think you should check out the later Ultimate Spiderman episodes. I think they are much better than the first once with more consistant tone, more fleshed out characters and best of all less "Comedy" moments.
