This show is so terrible that it makes Ultimate Spider-Man look like a masterpiece. Just recently bought both seasons of spectacular Spider-Man. I was a kid when I experienced it for the first time, now that I'm in my mid 20s, i wanted to see if I would understand it better and try to spot things I may have missed before. Let me tell you, that show can throw multiple story lines at you in the 13 episodes of a season, and still have it all makes sense as it's either rapping up an arc or setting up a new one. I find myself missing the spectacular spider man, a lot.

Something that really bugs me is that for the show's third and final season (which had a serious lacking finale, making it feel like a regular episode in my opinion) is that it's titled "Maximum Venom". Funny thing is, the symbiotes only appear in four episodes out of the season. It was mostly dedicated to the regular everyday villains that appeared in the show. So I'm just questioning, why was Venom in the season's title if he barley appeared in the season itself?

The show still on? I forget it still airing. Whatever. I'm going back to watch Spider-Man TAS and Spectacular Spider-Man.

What baffles me most is that I as an artist myself follow so many of the storyboard artists and the way they animate in their personal work is always done beautifully. Even their spidy fanart they post time to time in the artstyle of the show is so well and beautifully done! And then in the show the artstyle looks disappointing and bland. What you told about a outhouse company animating the show explains so much now. I really suggest looking up the storyboard artists that worked on the show since they are very amazing animators! I only watched this series because they worked on this and it's indeed disappointing to see it exucuted by a lesser company ;00

Imagine if I dressed up as the Joker

This is honestly one of the most ugly and cheap looking modern cartoons I've seen in recent times. While it is definitely possible to make an animated show look stunning with a simple art style, this show does it all wrong. The background is so drab and meaningless, and actually kind of clashes with the characters. As for the characters they look so bare bones and lifeless. Nearly absent of any unique or diverse artstyle. Plain and flat. The designs for some of the characters look like they were made just to sell overpriced toys that will be left forgotten at the back of a shelf in Walmart. No love, no care. The outfits could be designed by an 8 year old and look better. At least if that were to happen they'd look interesting. The animation could be more fluid and dynamic but honestly not every show reaches a great standard so it's somewhat passable. I could talk about the dialogue, plot, and editing but that's what this dude's video is for, and he does a great job at that. But anyways, seeing the art quality of this show frustrates me. One of the greatest things about animation is that it can show reality in a more dynamic and colorful lens. You can show the impossible, portray details and emotions you might not catch in real life, and most importantly inspire the viewer. Plenty of recent shows have been top tier in nearly every aspect: Ducktales, Infinity Train, Amphibia, The Owl House, I recently watched Hilda and loved it, and I'm sure there's more that I can't think of at the moment. It's just that one day when I have kids I hope these big TV channels, or I guess streaming services, have quality cartoons for my kids to watch. Or for me to watch, cartoons can be for all ages. I'm still an adult youngin so still a couple of years away till that happens. I wrote this at 4 A.M. so sorry for any potential grammatical errors.

So, am I, like... the ONLY person who really, really liked this show? It made a point to keep Peter active as a scientist, which is a major part of his character that is often glossed over in adaptations, it focused down on Spider-Man's lore and rogues gallery, as opposed to the last major show, which was all about as many crossovers as they could manage, while still being willing to put their personal spin on a lot of classic characters and stories. I'm not really surprised to see this video. Most shows based around popular franchises will have at least one or two people offering very vocal criticism, either to bait views or because of genuine complaints. I was, however, extremely taken aback by the broad negativity in the comments. I think the video was actually more forgiving, which is disconcerting since it outright calls it the worst modern Spider-Man cartoon. I don't know. Maybe I'm biased. Spider-Man was a huge influence on me growing up, and remains my favorite superhero by an incredibly wide margin, and this felt like a lot of care went into going back to the roots. It's just disappointing to think that something I enjoyed so much is seen so poorly by a majority of fans.

When I first saw this show I thought, “Oh my, this is the ugliest group of frames I have ever seen in my entire life.” But then the show grabbed my heart strings and now I’m obsessed with it. One of the main things that made spiderman so appealing was that he did his job solo with no assistance, look at how he handles villains in spectacular spiderman and then compare it with this. In spectacular spiderman he took down villans by himself, he even took down the sinister 6 by himself twice. In ultimate or in this show he's either getting his ass beat or he gets help from his spider buddies or the avengers. Wtf happend? Anyway like I said I like the show but I cant deny that it's got problems.

I think the reveal that the Vulture is the mastermind behind the Goblin Nation is one of the worst things out of this series. At first I expected Norman Osborn because you know his green goblin like armor but that twist just made me hate this series even more.

I remember me and my family getting to see a sneak peak of the show about 4 months before the show was supposed to air. It was the scene where peter was trying to fight off the symbiote in his room before being captured by the vulture. What we saw was the final product, as it looked exactly the same as what aired later. The showrunner walked up to us and asked what we thought about it. My mom said it didn't look finished and she hoped they could complete it in time. The showrunner went silent for a few seconds, thanked us for the feedback, and walked away. That's when we knew there was no hope for the show.

Used the very cheap way and watched the 3rd season basically on KZfaq since I was only interested cause they marketed Patrick Brown's promor art for it. I have to say the bits of exchanges between Moon Knight and Spider-Man feel pretty meaningful and the combat pacing with Moon Knight felt genuine from what you sort of showed a preview of after Ben's explanation.

I figured you might've brought up the change in showrunners. In season 1, Kevin Shinick was the showrunner. Kevin Burke & Chris Doc Wyatt were consulting producers in season 1 before being promoted to supervising producers (as in new showrunners) in season 2. They were working on this series the same time they were working on Stretch Armstrong And The Flex Fighters for Netflix (they created the show with Spectacular Spiderman co-creator Victor Cook).

All right, I get it! The animation is bad, we all get it already! Your right. The animation is admittedly lazy, but, in my own humble opinion, the no-shading and simplistic character designs are supposed to make the animation more fluid. And by the way, just because this show may not live up to your expectations and while it may have bad animation and poorly time jokes and overly use the one-time villain trope, there have been some dramatic and emotional moments in this show. Some are humble, too! This Spider-Man show may not be your favorite, but remember that this is an unique (albeit bad) take on Spider-Man, and this is what the creators want to do. Criticize this show all you want, but it won't cancel the show or improve it. Seriously, it's already been years, so just get over it! Also, just be glad that the Rhino is coming back!

5:41 I did read what you wrote there, but I have to politely disagree. Changing who a character is can be a big betrayal to the fans who know how that character should be. I know that calling this series an AU does help, but I’m more concerned over why they keep doing this same change to various media, and change guys to girls so often. Spider-Man has plenty of female villains in the comics, right? Even if they’re less well-known, they’d be a better choice to maintain the consistency of character portrayals across mediums and series of Spider-Man media, while making big changes like this is more like ‘What if so and so got Electro’s powers instead of Electro?’ The more and more one changes the character, the less and less the character they’ve changed is the character they started out with. I’d just like them to clarify that it’s just they’re own character for this show, and not something they plan on pushing forward everywhere else.
