Otuken is Turkic word, not Russian. Refers to "Sacred land of Turks", not just random word for sacred land. Altay is also Turkic word and a region where Turks live. Shared within Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China. Not just Russia. Nothing in this song is about Russia as they sing about Turk mythology and where they come from.

The song isn't particular to Altai region in Russia, but Altay as a whole. The natives of Siberia and Caucasus almost went extinct because when Russia invaded, they conquered to destroy, not rule it's natives like a normal empire does. It's annoying to see Russians claiming them as Russian without acknowledging them being Turkic people and culture; especially knowing how Russia treated them. Can't blame the current Russia though as they respect the natives and some Russians seem to work to preserve their cultures. It's ok if this ancient culture resonates with you, music is for every soul. But don't claim this culture as your own when it's not. Search "Altai Kai" and see if anything about them is Russian.

Тюрксие меньшинства живут на Урале- башкиры, в европейской части России: Казанские татары, Нижегородские мишары, чуваши, на крымском полуострове- Крымские татары, на Кавказе- - балкары, на крайнем севере- якуты, саха, да и Калмыки' - тоже тюрки. Тюркская семья народов огромна и многообразна. Половина географических названий в России- тюркского происхождения. Turk is all the Turkic people including Turkish, Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Tatar etc. and native Siberians like Chulym, Khakas, Altai etc. Serbian, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Bosniak etc. rarely refer to themselves as Slav, but we all know they're part of Slav ethnicity. When it comes to Turks though, you Russians freak out and say such ethnicity doesn't exist. Actually it's not specific to you. Many other nations freak out when they hear the word "Turk" and say they don't exist. Turk world is big and there are many sub tribes. Chulym, one of the native Turkic Siberian and main element of Otuken band has only 200 members left and 44 speaking the language. They must preserve their Chulym because they're almost exctint. Therefore they refer to themselves as "indigenous Siberian" to point out they're the natives. Indigenous Siberians are Turk mostly. We other Turks understand their language partially but not fully. Everything you see about them is Turkic. Their language, their costumes, their accessories, their instruments, their band name Otuken (which means "Sacred land" in all Turkic languages. It's where all Turks lived together in the past under one banner). Sure they're also Russian federation citizens as they're born in Russia. But don't forget the're part of Turk republics within Russia like Sakha, Tuva, Altai, Khakassia, Bashkurdistan, Tatar, Chuvasia. I hope you understand now how irritating it is to see Russian praise these cultures as Russian freak out when mentioned their Turk ethnicity. Do you really respect the natives by acting like that?
