I’m a former Minor League Umpire. Had quite a few funny experiences. One time a Manager calmly came to argue with me about an out call on a steal play at 2nd. “I think you got the call wrong but because my player made such a horse sh*t slide, he deserves to be out.” He then walks away and I almost start laughing out loud. Miss being on a professional field. But I do not miss the traveling.

Gotta be a family thing. When I traveled for work, and I mean literally a new city every single weekend except Easter, I loved it. Not too many people get to say they have worked in every one of the lower 48 states, not even too many truck drivers. But I didn't have a wife or kids at home, and I'm sure that makes a big difference in the decision-making.

The most interesting thing about this, is after every ejection...both umpire and ejected manager/player has to stay afterwards in the clubhouse, and fill out an ejection report...where they have to write word for word what exactly happened, for the league office to determine outcome/fines/suspensions...and it's an actual legal document. So I would have loved to seen what was on that thing.

Wow. I guess you learn something new all the time. I've been following baseball all my life, nearly 50 years and I didn't know both the umpire and the ejectee(s) had to file paperwork. My thoughts then turned to the time an umpire ejected the Montreal mascot, did they both have to file a report? If so, I wonder what was said.

If you look up Kauffman Stadium's ground rules for that area, they are as follows: • Fly ball striking the flat vertical surface (painted green facing) of the support, above the wall padding and returning to the field of play: Live and In Play • Fly ball striking the top of the metal support (painted yellow) and returning to the field of play: Live and In Play • Fly ball striking the top of the metal support (painted yellow) and exiting the field in foul territory: Two Bases • Fly Ball striking the top of the metal support (painted yellow) and striking the Foul Pole or exiting the field in fair territory: Home Run Looks like it should have been ruled a live ball.

I have no idea if that's in the rule book or not (previous answers are indicating no, but) just for the sake of the argument, here are several things that would happen before that would ever be a possibility: a game goes to the 120th inning, Carrot Top is elected President of the World, I will slam dunk the moon into a thimble while dancing a very complicated samba, or Donald Trump says something that is both true AND doesn't serve only his own agenda

One time a coach who I knew well from calling a whole bunch of his games came up to me and said "I DONT THINK HE WAS OUT!, but his dad is such an asshole, I'm glad that he is - SO can we act ANGRY for half a DAMN MINUTE so I can look like I MEAN IT!! (the capital letters he yelled, the others he said under his breath) it was hilarious and I had to work hard not to bust up...
