Someone paid like 3 million dollars to an ad agency to come up with the Kendal Jenner Pepsi ad. They spent tens of millions to make it and tens of millions to air it. They hired hundreds of extras, union stage crews, multiple sets, closed down a street, hired costumers and rented horses, professional riders, a director of photography, sound mixer, they paid for a Kardashian. Then one guy at Lasik is like "Hey what if we tee up an umpire joke?"

If a ball catches any part of that more elaborate 3D area within the defined strike zone, it may not be picked up. I feel the only thing the box really accomplishes is making it easier for folks to criticize umpires.
