I once asked a certain pitcher who should be in the hall of fame about CB Bucknor. Apparently the other umpires call him "Confused Boy"; pronounce "boy" with a deep southern accent. He can't keep up with basic things like what inning it is, how many outs there are, what the count is, the lineup card, etc. The other umpires have to do all his work for him

When my son started little league T-Ball, the league wanted umpires for the kids games so I thought "sure, I'll help out" so - 6:20 - that was me about halfway through my first season. Im not taking that crap anymore! I never saw such yelling & screaming and unsportsmanlike conduct in my whole life. And that was from the adults! the little kids were just like, WTF has my dad gotten me into! That was the last time I ever tried to umpire a baseball game.

On some of these, I would handle things differently. First, it’s important to know whether the player is upset with the umpire, or with himself. That can be harder to tell with a pitcher than a batter. If I thought the pitcher was out of line, then I would clean the plate and quietly tell the catcher to get out there and settle his pitcher down, and warn him that he’s in danger of getting ejected. Especially early in the game, because you really don’t want to eject pitchers too early, but you also have to establish control of the game early. Letting the catcher send the message avoids showing him up. It also gives the catcher a chance to settle down a pitcher who just may be frustrated when he just misses the strike zone. Many pitchers require one inning to get settled into a rhythm. I’d also avoid getting too near the dugout. Don’t go looking for trouble. With those base umpires calling the swing, no swing, assuming there’s nobody on base, I’d just turn my back and take a few steps, and thus not see the body language. It depends on the situation. If it’s a onetime event, I’d try to avoid escalation. Players do get frustrated, sometimes with themselves. I saw another video where Joe West just stared a pitcher down. Sent a message without even saying a word, and the pitcher knew he was at his limit.

At Wrigley field the umpires park at Murphys in designated parking spaces that says "Umpire Parking" So whenever there is an ump like that at Wrigley you can always guarantee those cars are flipped over and set on fire... most umps skateboard or bike ride to Wrigley these days. I remember the Game between Oakland and KC when Don Wakamatsu was thrown out at the beginning of this video. That was the year KC had a good team and won the world series and they brawled with many teams because they kept getting hit by everybodys pitchers intentionally.
