In 2006, when I became the mayor of Watsonville, I spoke about these anti-filipino riots and how, a terrible history of racist attitudes against filipinos in Watsonville in the 1930s, righted itself 71 years later with a Filipino American, (really a Mexipino) mayor of Watsonville.! At that time, the seven member Watsonville city council counted 5 Mexican Americans, one Mexipino and one Anglo. We did not have the economic power in 2006 and perhaps will have to await another 71 years for that to happen, but we did have the political power. Oh well.Just like water can dissolve granite, Pinoy power still overcame that anti-filipino racism.

i've seen in another video, those young filipino farmers back then knew how to party, they dance great, they look and dress sharp and so getting all the white women...that's one big reason it triggered the white men

my mother was a fullbright scholar at university of kentucky circa midforties,,she was only 5ft2in and brown skin like pres obama...she said white middle class americans are kinder than filipinos once they have accepted you in their communities...i try to remeber this because i have also encountered discrimination in NYC..not all people are that bad

The Manongs overcame these obstacles...survived...and..flourished in America by building the foundation of today's Filipino American communities on the West coast. This is way they are considered the greatest Filipino American generation.
