#MartinLynch&Sons #60AmpPowerSupply @RMItalyKL703Linear
Hi guys.. this video is a mish mash of topics relating to some subjects I depicted in my last video.. here I do an unboxing of a 60 amp power supply unit for running the RM Italy KL 703 linear amplifier which I bought a while back, I tried to run two 50 amp power supplies but on doing so I had a problem with the bias not being in sync and the bias was out by three sometimes four amps which is not good.
From there and dropping that idea I purchased a 60 amp supply from Martin Lynch & Sons so I could test out the linear..
Other subjects in the video are mouse mats and a few contacts I made.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all my subscribers and I thank you all for your continued support on my channel you are all appreciated
If you like my content could be so kind to Subscribe Like and share out my videos, thank you.

Snap, i have the RM Italy 505v and also run it from the 50 amp supply with no problems, it's definitely enough to run the linear and a low watt rig at the same time.. i think my linear and a 4 watt radio running it comes to around 40 amps so i have 10 amps spare.

@DeltaXray444
@DeltaXray444 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren.. Thanks for the compliment on the contacts I'm really struggling in my location for propagation on all bands it seems many stations have much better conditions and are getting some awesome contacts.. i did look around for some time and some of these psu's are very expensive, if you put the name Kenwood on the front of one of these switch modes they ask around £400, i guess they all work the same at the end of the day.. i have these same models but with other names like Qje and Jetfon in both 30 & 50 amp and i have had no problems at all, apart from one 30 amp i accidentally overloaded but that was my own fault, and after i overloaded it the fan on that one kicked in every time there was a current drain when i keyed up, you probably heard it on some of my previous videos.. anyway i fixed that one and it's been fine ever since.. But yes they come with a guarantee for a year so if anything went wrong it's covered, for the price they are definitely a good buy, i didn't think they would be this cheap either coming from Martin Lynch's and they have a good reputation for radio equipment as you well know. Radioworld have a 60 amp coming in next week at £124.95 so that's a bargain.. I will reiterate what i said in the video i have never heard of anyone who has had a problem with these supplies regardless of the name on the front.. the build quality is excellent and they run virtually silent.. enjoy your weekend, stay safe..

The RM Italy 703 Manual says the maximum input is 35 watts.... not 30
@DeltaXray444
@DeltaXray444 Жыл бұрын
Not on FM.. also RM are extremely shady about their inputs, it took me two months to get any kind of answer from them.. twenty five watts on FM will give you the 500 when the correct tuned jumpers are used.. so feeding the linear with 35 on FM will put strain on it and it won't last five minutes.. I have a video on my channel showing an issue with a Nissan meter that had a problem, it shows the 703 doing over 500 with a 25 watt input.

Hi, yes it's very clean across 10-11-12 meters.. the 703 only covers 25-30 mhz. I follow your channel on KZfaq and have seen your nice linear.. I have two benches one for 11 meters and one for my amateur radio set up, on my ham bench i have an Ameritron 1010 linear.

Good video. Just to set the record straight a 100 amp power supply should be used. Even my 75 amp power supply strains to run the 703
@DeltaXray444
@DeltaXray444 Жыл бұрын
I eventually bought a 100 amp.. it cost me a fair amount because it was variable and a proper bench testing supply.. and yes you are correct a 60 amp takes too much strain and overheats very fast the 703 will suck the life out of a 60 amp drawing around 54 amps with the linear on full power . A 50 amp is totally out of the question..

😂😂😂 I think those railway line help me get out but can't be certain, I'm tapping into them to boost my output power 😂😂😂
@DeltaXray444
@DeltaXray444 Жыл бұрын
I found this online Lee, so railway tracks do help me get out.. It has been a long established fact that HF radio signals can travel over vast distances when transmitted next to or adjacent to railway lines/tracks. Radio propagation or RF propagation and the distances over which the signals can propagate thousands of miles depending on the interconnected railway network, Some HF radio signals can travel or propagate around the globe, whereas other radio signals may only propagate over much shorter distances. Radio propagation, or the way in which radio signals travel along a railway network can be an interesting topic to study. RF propagation is a particularly important topic for any participate into radio communications. The radio propagation will depend on many factors, and the choice of the radio frequency will determine many aspects of radio propagation for the radio communications system, Usually lower HF transmissions between 4kHz to 55 MHz will help radio signals propagate further than higher UHF or VHF signals.

I have a 503 and im looking at the 703. I run a hifi set up with a modified radio as well as rack gear. I have used a switching power supply (30 amp)for the 503 and did notice a small hum and not as clear audio as i would like. Not enough to really notice if i were using a regular mic without the rack. So I Purchased a 40 amp regulated power supply and that all went away and had cleaner sounding audio. Do you think some switching power supplys are better than others? Also great video, you answered a lot of questions i have had.
@DeltaXray444
@DeltaXray444 6 ай бұрын
Hi, I have used many of these types of switching power supplies and never had a problem with any of them, also with other people who have used them they all say they have had no issues either.. I can understand some people may get lamination rattle (hum) buts that's usually down to running a radio and small amplifier on the PSU at the same time and overloading it a little too much.. On my bench I run five at the same time for various equipment between 30 amp and 60amp and get very little noise even when they are all switched on I never really hear them.. As for some being better than others, from those I use although identical but just with a different brand name I also never had any issues or problems with any, they are very stable and very reliable.. A 30 amp will run a 503 with ease and have a little headroom to keep the PSU stable and working well with very little overheating of the PSU .. However I did notice when running the 703 at full output power I had to increase the voltage to 15 volts instead of 13.8 as on transmit the 703 works better with a little more juice and gives the linear it's value output of near to 500watts on FM and the full beans on SSB with ease.. On a 60 amp PSU the 703 will suck around 55 amps so that little extra 5 amps is a little headroom but if the linear is run heavy for ten minutes on FM the PSU's fan will kick in often to cool it down.. i stepped up to a 150 amp PSU which was very expensive but at the same time it gave me zero worries about overloading a PSU.. Im Not sure if I covered everything you mentioned but please correct me if I misunderstood anything out of context.. One more thing running the rack and getting RF feedback of any kind I would suggest using ferrite ring chokes or ferrite clamps along the speaker wires they go a long way to reduce any interference you may get. Again thank you and a happy new year Also always make sure when using a linear to keep all the jumpers of equal length which gives a much better impedance match thus reducing the swr with no spiking.. I would imagine running a 40 amp PSU with the amplifier for the rack system would put less strain and also give you a little more headroom as increasing the audio sound to the speakers will drain more amps from the PSU so it's always better to have that few extra amps..
