Never thought I would unbox a magnet bigger than my monster 6x2", but technology is evolving and I love following along.
Luckily, magnetportal.de was kind enough to donate the magnets featured in this video. They are not cheap! The biggest one alone contains around 3 kg of the rare earth metal neodymium.
Here's where you can find the magnets and a lot of smaller ones:
www.magnetportal.de/neodym-ma...
The website is German, but I have communicated with them in English and Chrome can translate the website to your language, so don't let it stop you.

The iron in our blood is linked to the hemoglobin molecules in it and is (un?)fortunately not (ferro)magnetic, so there's no meaningful force. Each hemoglobin molecule is actually fairly big and complex, but only has four iron atoms in the middle of it. Being in the middle of a molecule strips the iron of its magnetic properties that it usually has when in metallic form.

Not really. As strong as that magnet is, it takes a lot more force than that to mess with molecules in the blood. An MRI's magnets make this look like a toy in comparison, and they don't pull anything out.

I loved the scene with the electronic magnet in the back of a van to kill the harddrive of a single laptop in police storage in 'Breaking Bad'. In ancient Greece magnets were used to levitate objects through the air in the temples to show the power of belief. One story told of a chariot that floated through the air up to the altar end of the temple.

not that far, the thing with magnetism is it's really fucking strong but has a very, very short range also our earth is mostly made from iron so the comparison between a 15.7 m^3 magnet and a 1,097,509,500,000,000,000,000 m^3 magnet is very different
@InternetLaser
@InternetLaser 6 жыл бұрын
at larger distances, I do suspect that there would be some deflection of a compass though, if you had a particularly sensitive compass, you might be able to see a half degree or so of deflection from 2-3 houses down the street.
