It's rough no doubt.. mostly cosmetic. Give a good cleaning and a very light sanding, give a few coats of boiled linseed oil and she will look amazing. I'm sure you can find videos on repairing that stock. It's a piece of history, it's perfect..

Hi Gary, I agree. Turns out...it has become one of my favorite rifles. I cleaned her up and added a few period correct parts and what was disappointing at the time has become a prized addition to my collection. You just never know I guess. Thanks for watching and your comments!

The CMP is an awesome program, even though the rifle is in pretty rough shape, it's still a shooter. The crack is a bit concerning tho. Happy 4th of july !

Will you be doing repairs on it? I am looking for tips on how to do stock repairs.

Hi Tom. I sure plan too. I got it broken down and am assessing the cracks while it soaks up some oil. It already looks better. For repairs I really like acraglas for adhesive. I use the gel version. You can find it anywhere (amazon, brownells, etc.). For larger sections/cracks you might have to use a dowel or pin as support. Turns out my biggest crack on the wrist was repaired with a dowel and done quite well. I'll need to test it out more once it dries. Good luck to you!

@@tomc6255 Definitely. I use the acraglass gel for everything and it works great for a professional repair that will hold up to time and conditions. Give it a shot.

Those experts will sure be good shooters. Ive seen some other racks that look really good so you never know. I'll do a follow up sometime soon. Breakdown/cleaning and inspection today. Wood not as bad as I first thought.

@@wildoats7104 Surprisingly this order was pretty quick, only a few months, so hopefully yours will arrive soon. They always send an email saying it was received and being processed then its pretty quick after that. Then you should receive a tracking number. Hope you get a good one!

That always hurts, BUT they are still out there and you'll find a good one. Try the CMP if you can.

I was definitely disappointed but trying to stay positive. I don't think they take returns on rack grades unfortunately.

@@MidwesternFC ya, that just makes me mad. I'm sure you work very hard for your money. I just feel they did you dirty. They shouldnt have ever sent that out. It should have been pulled and used for parts. I feel bad for you. Not sure what you paid for it but they should give you your money back. Thats my thoughts.

@@computer-blue6381 Thanks. I've almost got it cleaned up and once its back together I'll see where I go from here. I do work hard for the $ I have and it was a bit disappointing to know that just a few months ago a nice service grade was only $50 more. Such is life.
