Do people in Arizona have to drive their cars with oven mitts?
Do scorpions climb into your bed at night here?
And does everyone in Arizona eat Mexican food?
We’ll answer those questions and more. So, grab your Eegees and throw on your shades, we’re going to unbox the state of Arizona.
Okay. Always a good way to begin a video. We’re in an up and coming major metro area. This is Phoenix. It’s very popular right now. In fact, the Phoenix area is the fastest-growing metro in the whole country, and Arizona is the third fastest-growing state. We’ll get into why a little later, but if you’re looking for a place to move that’s warm, and still relatively affordable, the Copper State can be your new jam.
But Arizona is a whole lot more than just Phoenix. Arizona has a lot of different areas, and cultures and ways of life. To get a complete overview of what Arizona is all about, we need to look at it from a higher level, and then drill down into the various regions.
This is Arizona, people.
We'll talk about everything from Phoenix, the Phoenix metro area, the weather, the various cities (Tucson, Flagstaff, Tempe), the outdoors (hiking, boating) and the great Mexican food.
Also, thanks to my new friend Joseph who helped me make this video. Joe is awesome!!

Missed topics: 1. There's flash floods (don't drive through them), 2. Some areas have mountain lions, 3. Hawks & coyotes will eat your small pets, 4. Rattlesnakes, 5. Weather will never demolish your house, 6. General attitude - people are laid back, 7. Restaurants/bars are legally required to give you water if you ask (might charge you for the cup), 8. Bars/restaurants have water misters for outside sitting areas, 9. A lot of people are Spanish bilingual, so don't move to AZ if you're racist, 10. "Valley Fever" and/or red dust allergies (very bad) 11. Perfect for solar panels, 12. Easy grid road system Events/Places: 1. Arizona Sun Devils, 2. Arizona Botanical Gardens, 3. The Phoenix Biltmore area has become the hot spot for shopping and restaurants. 4. "Mill Avenue" is a very short strip where college students hang out & has lots of homeless people, 5. Arizona Renaissance Festival, 6. Fan Fusion (aka comicon), 7. Maricopa County Fair, 8. Arizona Ostrich festival, 9. The Arizona Wine Festival, 10. Phoenix First Fridays Art Walk, 11. Phoenix Zoo Lights, 12. Active Phoenix night club scene, 13. Wild West Steampunk Convention Comments: 1. AZ is in a desert, so of course it's hot. But there's this thing called "air conditioning" that's popular. Move North if heat is an issue for you. 2. Every city has a nice area and a bad area. So calling one city ghetto or crime ridden is dumb. 3. Dear Karen, a "rock yard" (aka desert landscape) isn't stupid when the heat will dry out plants and people should be conserving water. A lush lawn will raise your water bill. However, some areas do use irrigation.

I thought having rocks instead of a yard/lawn was stupid too until I found out how much it costs to water your lawn to keep it alive in AZ. People don't generally do a "desert landscape" because it looks better but because it's less work and WAY cheaper.

Yanking weeds out of a lawn every Spring sucks too. Sure you can pay someone to do it for you, or you could just opt for a nice desert landscape instead. What you save on your water bill, you can put towards solar panels. With so much sun it's a great investment.

I lived in Arizona and I have to say I totally loved living there. I was amazed that as a Brit I would, but I miss it to this day.. I lived there for 2 years, and I never had a bad day, challenges yes but had day nope! I picked fresh oranges on Christmas day by a friend's pool, I hiked in the grand canyon, in the desert a bit, walked in heat I never experienced before, laughed like I had never done before, my experience of Arizona and it's people are 100% positive, and I would go back in a heart beat if I could! This has made me 'homesick' again! Thank you for posting, we had a dessert yard too, and I did start wearing shoes out doors cos of the stickers experience when I ran out to get the mail ... Never went hear again lol! But I adored Arizona, best place in the world to live in my humble opinion!

I'm glad I'm FROM there. Anybody that makes it out if there - anybody that doesn't end up dead from drugs or violence, or becoming habituated to the prison system - is resilient. I've been living in Old Town Scottsdale the last 16 years. It's cake. It's safe. I learned from growing up in Maryvale that skin color and fashion sense don't mean a thing. I pay attention to what people say and do. Living over here shows me that wealth does NOT equate to good character.

Lived in Maryvale almost all my life and it’s gotten really ghetto as the years go by. As Andy said, it got worse with houses going for rent. Some areas getting closer to the 101 are actually nice and quieter but for the most part, it’s as bad as the area where the i17 and i10 intersect. Moved to Goodyear 3 years ago and glad to say I’m not never going back.

I'll take the sun and heat over below zero weather, wind chill below zero, crappy ice and snow, crappy driving, potholes, floods and only 3 months warm here in Chicago it's usually been cold from December until May. No I'm not kidding. This year it was in the 50's in May. Yuk.

One restaurant in the Phoenix area that is fantastic is Salad & Go. They only sell salads (almost exclusively organic). They are inexpensive, where salads are only $5.74. They have free salads to hospital workers and essential workers at the start of the pandemic. And they just started paying all of their employees a minimum of $15/hour. Almost all of their business is drive-thru with some facilities having a pick-up window. There is no restaurant at all.
