I made my own out of a piece of 1 3/4 I D steel pipe that I had lying around. Made the cap from 1/8 inch flat stock, again that I had lying around. I use it in my manual 12 ton hydraulic press. Works great and cost me nothing.

Yep, those things work great for pucks and comets! I got the dab press 30mm one in stainless. It works great for a standard 1.91” tube with Ned gorski’s toilet/paper towel tube piston.

Don't tap any 3 of those pieces on anything hard (like each other)! Use wood or a rubber mallet. I'm a precision metal machinist. Over time, tools get damaged, don't speed that up.

@@pa-pyro2804 that’s true they would stack better in a cylinder. I’ve actually thought about making some 3lb double voice crackers to simulate a shell and throw stars in there. Using the pucks like you mentioned would be a great idea thank you for that.

It might be better if this were made from Aluminum. Stainless steel and black powder might not be a good mix. (sparking)

Is that gauge pressure to force or pressure per square inch? Two different things
@E85_STI
@E85_STI 2 жыл бұрын
It’s only a pressure to force/psi but the pressure per square inch I have the calculations that woodys gave me for the square inch pressure per tool such as the 1/2 inch rammer or the 5/8 rammer.
@alohapyro3062
@alohapyro3062 2 жыл бұрын
@@E85_STI right but I’m saying if you’re pressing to 2500p2f thinking that’s 2500psi then that’s inaccurate. That gague is p2f. Calculations need to be done in order to find out proper psi on the comp. There’s a formula out there somewhere I’d have to find it

@@alohapyro3062 I have some calculations that I get with my tools for black powder that I’ve posted on my channel when I was unboxing some of my tools. So can you make a puck with a c clamp vise with this tool aswell?
@E85_STI
@E85_STI 2 жыл бұрын
Well from my understanding it requires a lot of pressure for it to make it into a puck. An arbor press gives a good 1,000 lbs of force as I have shown this in a previous video but a clamp vise might not provide enough force but honestly I haven’t tried it with a vise.
@ishnifusmeadle
@ishnifusmeadle Жыл бұрын
Yes you can but it's ultimately not worth it...a c clampgenerally can't put out enough(unless you get an absolute monster but then there's other issues). I vice works but again, you have to have a beast, like an old machine shop one to get enough leverage while not compromising the vice block. Honestly your better off taking a cheap bottle jack and bolting/welding up a frame if you can afford the small 1 or 6 ton at harbor freight or similar.

Why don’t you shorten the 4 tie rod shafts so your mickey mouse and very dangerous stack to get your new tool high enough for the ram travel? Also NEVER use aluminum as a base for any press!!! Also NEVER use your new tool assembly to use one part to tap of hammer upon the other remaining parts of the tool!!!!! That’s what a deadblow hammer is for. One more thing, never hold the pressure for more than a few seconds, as it will not compress the puck any more especially at 4,000 psi. Except for my two cents worth, it was a very interesting and informative video! If I heard you correctly, you got the buy of a lifetime for your new tool!!! I don’t think you could purchase the raw material for any less than you paid for the new tool. BTW, the puck looks absolutely beautiful. First 17 years of my manufacturing career I ran different presses that looked like a steel vault with a very small bulletproof window in the door. When pressing apart large die cases, the pressures were often 100,000+ psi. When the there was a failure of the upper push blocks it sounded like a small cannon fired and the bulletproof glass should have been called bullet-resistant glass, especially when the window had been through one to many failures!!! Also it was nice to have a extra couple of pairs of underwear close by. The loud sound would really scare the poop out of anyone in the close vicinity…. Please be careful my friend!!! Thanks for all your nice videos!!!!!

What are the pucks used for?
@E85_STI
@E85_STI 2 жыл бұрын
You break them up and place them in grades for lift, burst, etc.. it’s much faster than granulating as I pressed this puck quickly. Besides the wait time for the press I’m sure you can just press it with high pressure for a few seconds and be good.
@tonyf.8858
@tonyf.8858 2 жыл бұрын
The finished pucks are crushed and then sifted thru 2 or 3 different size screens to make different grades of BP for different applications, for instance, a larger size may be used for lifting a shell into the air while a smaller size might be used for the burst charge, as it burns faster, (I think that's how it goes), but you get the idea.

This speeds up the process for granulation but also when compressed like this it forces the nitrate into the charcoal and gives you a very fast powder. People that make BP for shooting guns actually do this process and grind it to their F size needed.

@@whisperingdeath308 I do show how to make your own charcoal and since I’ve been making it I haven’t bought any in about 4 years of making this powder. I do also have other compositions such as colored smoke, stars and whistle fuel on the channel if interested.
