It was really well managed. The security split the queue into groups of 10 who got to know each other, so people couldn't jump the queue easily, and this allowed people to get a snack or use the bathroom without losing their place. They aldo split the queue into sections as to not block doors to the shops and offices. There were hundreds of people there and according to a member of the security staff they only had 300 watches, so a lot of disappointment.

Surely it has to balance at some point in time given how many they are making

I think it’s more about the tragic devaluation of the Omega brand more than anything. It’s the equivalent of Fiat putting Ferrari badges on the back of a 500 and trying to pass it off as a cut price Ferrari. I’m sure certain people would still buy it though, those that can’t acquire the genuine article, and no doubt they would get great pleasure saying “Hey look at my Ferrari!” While Ferrari owners wet themselves with laughter. It’s a genius bit of marketing for swatch though, being able to sell a £25 watch for £250 though, especially a watch that constantly breaks and even gets scratched in its own box. Each to their own though 😊

@@markclayden7654 I can see how some people would think that, particularly Omega owners (I was concerned about that myself when the were first released), but in my opinion it has only increased brand awareness and desire for the brand, particularly when they’re difficult to obtain. The original Moonswatches have been criticised, particularly for quality, but they haven’t received anything compared to the slating this edition has.

@@thomasf1531 Scratched in its own box, cases that leach colour, breaking buttons, cracking cases, cracking “glass” movement failures… you think this is the “Brand awareness” that Omega needs? Or wants? The Moonswatch’s material value is less that £10, the cost to assemble it and get it through QC is £18. There are only 2 Swiss components in the entire watch, the power coil and the PCB in the movement, the rest of the watch in its entirety is made in China and assembled in Switzerland. The great irony is that not only are the Chinese copies of this watch better quality, they actually have less Chinese parts in them, the better ones having a Miyota movement. Even more irony, Swatch make a watch called the night flight, fully stainless steel with a decent quartz movement, and it’s a dead ringer for a speedmaster. And it’s £70 less than a moonswatch. People buy the Moonswatch for the name Omega, no other reason. They think they’re getting something from a brand associated with high quality, but they aren’t, they’re getting a Swatch. And a bad one at that. It’s the perfect marketing ploy so hats off to Swatch for that.

I find these watches and the marketing of them fascinating. The bold colours, cheap material, omega partnership, and the way they’ve restricted sales to not be online and only certain locations. The night flight is an objectively better watch but it doesn’t have the hype! 😂

I totally get why Shmee likes then. You can’t hang around London or New York wearing a Daytona or Wraith. Even if you just want to relax and fool around without worrying about what’s on your wrist. Plus lighter is comfier
