Hello! I don't know if anyone's reached out to you or if you've just figured it out, but you can mount the tripod plate using both the 1/4 20 and 3/8 16 screws instead of using the orientation pin to keep it from spinning. That way you can mount the lens farther back on the plate and better balance your fluid head. I have several of these plates and I've just ordered the 504X head to replace my 504HD that was stolen a few months ago. We always end up mounting our rigs with both screws to keep them from torqueing loose. The orientation pin was a nice idea, but I usually just tear them out of any new plate that comes with one and use two screws. Cheers!

Hi. Attaching the 75mm half bowl just seems to rely on one screw in the centre. Is there nothing to stop that from untwisting itself? If it untwisted itself over time the whole camera (with head still attached) could fall off!! Surely there is a way of locking it. Is that what the smaller screws are for? Thanks

@justadadtips, what are the dimensions of the head - height,length, depth? I am in the marker for a fluid head that is travel friendly, its always a trade off between size and performance /features. I know this head is on the larger side but would like to know how huge exactly?

very informative video, thanks! I'm considering to buy the 504X but I don't know how effective the counter balance is. by the way, have you successfully use the counter balance on your set up? I think you should balance your camera and lens first. The 200-600 is front-heavy lens, so you need to push your camera + lens a little more to the back.

This was brutally painful to watch. I’m not hating, but learn what you’re talking about before reviewing a product. Waste of 20 minutes. To counterbalance a fluid head you balance the camera with zero counter balance and zero tilt friction by sliding the plate back and forth. Then you increase the counterbalance step by step until the camera remains at whatever tilt angle you leave it at. Then you adjust tilt drag as desired on its own. You do not change the counterbalance unless your camera payload changes (different lens, gear, etc).
