Beautifull gracefull Edwardian Design. Another elegant 4-4-0 and this wheel configuration says every thing about the Era, when people took time to respect, dress and promenade.

I got me a T9 as a direct result of having seen Sam's Review, of it. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you, Sam.

I find 4-4-0s such cool-looking steam locomotives, especially coated in my favorite color 💚 Man, sometimes I would think that if only _Thomas & Friends_ hadn't got canceled, there would've been time for yet another steam engine character with the same chassis just like the T9 and be named after me to make an appearance in the show and work his arc purpose of how useful he could be. That splendoriffic sort of engine would look like Edward, only his name is mine: Isaiah.

Great southern video! Your railway has really come on, I watched a vid from 2 years ago and it has massively improved! :)

Hi mate, thanks so much for the kind comments! Yeah it has changed a lot - I just slowly add extra buildings and trees as time goes on! It's trash compared to most serious layouts - but I really like it myself! :D All the best mate, Sam :)

Hi Sam, great video of a super model I am loving the green livery on your T9 special edition. It goes so well with those southern coaches, the colour matching is great. I've had issues with that fiddly packaging myself, got an A3 in that style of box and it's a faff getting her in and out. I think someone got this already but odd one out is presumably the 4MT, a BR built class but having a southern paintjob. Not prototypical but it looked good. Cheers, Luke
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi Luke, thanks a lot for the comment mate, glad you liked her with those coaches! Yeah those boxes are a faf - especially when you've got to plug/unplug the tender with every use! Yeah that's right too, very well spotted, that was a tricky one! Cheers, Sam :)

@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Haha! Thanks Oscar - yeah I really like those tenders too, I wonder which other locomotives ran with them in real life? All the best, Sam :)
@AlexStaddon7 жыл бұрын
hey Sam, I had a T9 and luckily it was one of the ones that didn't have difficulties with the motor mount. be wary of the tender wheels though, and indeed the underframe; the central two sets of wheels don't always turn, and the tender chassis detail is easily broken. also be careful with the wire, it's very easy to snap. enjoy the model though- t9s are lovely when they run and I regret getting rid of mine as it turns out, after a bit of research, it would have run around Hastings area where my layout is to be set! you live and learn, Alex
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, yeah I can't say I've had a problem with the motor either! Yeah sometimes the tenders do have trouble - but it's nicely fixed with some extra weight, but yeah the detail and wire is very fragile! Yeah - I do enjoy this model, I've had it for well over a year, but only just got around to reviewing it! All the best, Sam :)

@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
haha - sorry Peter! I couldn't give it 10 - because I thought there are others that have better detail; the B12 for example! Also I thought the design of the detail was pretty poor in places - especially with the pipework! All the best mate, Sam :)

Number 30119 was the Southerns royal engine which was why she was the only T9 painted in malachite which she carried until withdrawal in December 1952, oh and the reason the tenders were called watercarts was that they leaked abominably!

Nice loco and review there mate. excellent detail, especially in the cab. I'm with you on the packaging, think it's a bit of a faff. ironically theres a chance of knocking detail off inadvertently getting it out of the box, not ideal on such a loco! super review

Could i give you a bit of info on this engine Sam,it was built in 1899 at nine elms works,has part of 66 built by Dubs or the LSWR,known has Greyhounds by their crews,on account of their free running abilities,119 was often rostered for royal or v.i.p.duties.So in 1935 it was selected has the southerns royal engine and was repainted with extra lining and burnished fittings,it remained in green through the war while the other 65 were painted black,at nationalisation it was renumbered 30119 but retained its southern green,with Bulleid sunshine lettering,has hornby has done it.The star on the smokebox is a throwback to scotland where selected locos got the adornment,has Dugald Drummond designed 4-4-0s for the NBR and Caledoninan before he came south,maybe someone suggested it! The engine was withdrawn from Dorchester Shed on 12-1952,and amazingly got an obituary in the Times,hope this is of interest Best Wishs keep up the reviews.

Thats a fine model there Sam, I dunno about those T9 Greyhounds over all though (the original locos) To my eye they always looked awkward, a bit squashed, the buffer beam at the front looked a bit short, never liked the look of stove pipe chimneys and the short boiler didn't help either, neither did all the latches around the smoke box door. But hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one mans meat in the next mans poison etc etc etc. (And remember I am bias, as a fan of the products of Swindon, those from Eastliegh are the loco's of 'the enemy' ;) GWR / LSWR was a bit like Spurs / Arsenal lol) Anyway good review of a beautiful model that really does capture the spirit of the original. Jon PS - Odd one out - the 4MT in the fictitious Southern Green?)
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, thanks a lot for the comment mate - yeah I fully understand what you mean mate, their proportions are definitely quite unusual - I find her quite attractive personally, but as you say, we all have our different tastes - and that's one of the best things about all of this! Glad you enjoyed the video - and yes, that was the odd one out, well done! :D All the best, Sam :)
@itloon7 жыл бұрын
Well detailed engine. With the main instructions, they should advise how to pick it up / put it down without pulling off a pipe. I do like the malachite, you had a schools class one and a dark khaki one recently (funnily enough the dark khaki won me over at the end). Packaging - seems a great idea, wonder if it was only used for that limited edition? Good demonstration why tyres were not a good idea, yet they had front pickups. Maybe one day, they will have front pickups and not need a tyre. Alan.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan - yeah how to pick it up would have been sensible to include, haha! And yeah - the front pick-ups are a nice touch - and she seems to benefit from them certainly! Glad you liked her anyway, Cheers, Sam :)

@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi David! Thanks a lot for the comment - and well done spotting Bullman! No that one was a southern one - the odd one was the Standard Class 4 - it was in a SR livery, but was a BR locomotive - so a very tricky one! :D Cheers, Sam :)

Nice Model! It does look like Edward! Edward is one of my two favorite Thomas characters (along with James) Thankfully only one T9 is preserved (now operational). The T9 isn't the only preserved 4-4-0 that looked like Edward in UK, North British Railway "Glen Douglas" (LNER D34) 256 preserved in Riverside Museum in Glasgow, and Great Northern of Scott "Gordon Highlander" (LNER D40) 49 preserved in Scottish Railway Museum in Bo'ness have survived the scrapper's torch!

Hi Sam have you notice how with ex big four engines each section has different numbers what I mean is that the southern region has numbers like 3.... the midland region would be 4.... and the Eastern region has 6.... and the Western region has only the 4 numbers as the metal number plates are too expensive to just get rid of. And once again a great video👍

#30119 was built by Nine Elms on August 31st, 1899 as London & South Western #119, later it became SR #119 in 1923 and it went under BR ownership in 1948, receiving the number 30119. It was withdrawn from service December 31st, 1952 and it was cut up at Ashford Works Scrapyard on February 28th, 1953 at the age of 53. Hey Sam, if Hornby re-did their thomas & friends range, do you think this locomotive would be the perfect basis for Edward instead of the D49 with the cylinders removed?

Hey Sam. I’m unsure whether to buy a Hornby T9 or the Bachmann City Class. Since you have both, which do you recommend? Which one is more structurally sound, which pulls more, which one’s faster, and which one is quieter?
@SamsTrains5 жыл бұрын
I think overall the Bachmann City Class is much better quality for the price - and certainly more structurally sound. The T9 pulls more, but because of the nasty rubber tyres - the City does it without one! They're both similar in terms of speed and silence, though the city is a little faster! The limited edition literally means that they only made a select number of them... normally 1500 units, or something like that! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

This model could be made into Edward the Blue Engine with a bit of modifications to the cab and six-wheeled tender.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree it could - it does look very similar to him! :D Cheers, Sam :)
@TheTWRModeller7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it sort of does and it will. I know because I'm working on a project of him.

Every locomotive is the U.S.A. is left hand driven. The engineer's side of the cab is on the right.

At slow speeds the middle two tender wheel stick and don't run ?
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true - well spotted! Again - that's an issue with having tenders that are so light weight - I might try to add some weight to it, to see if that helps! Cheers, Sam :)

My wife got it from a hobby shop I took it back and they had another one so I took that one home only to find out that it is the same motor runs but the wheels don't So back it went to and they sent them back to Hornby and they said they found the issue and I am now waiting to see what they are going to do about it as I want the engine because it's the one that my wife chose for me and I do like the look of them But have been told that I have to wait up to a month to hear what they can do about it (so won't get to use my birthday present till then) The detail on this engine is great but the build quality is very poor not happy with Hornby at all and probably won't buy another new Hornby engine again will stick with the old good quality engines from Hornby
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Hi Corey, I've heard so many stories about that happening with these T9 locos - I do hope it's good news on that one! But agreed, these definitely are poor quality models, that clearly cost very little to produce! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Sorry Sam but I must ask, why not rate the details of the T9 a 10. I was surprised buy the amount of details.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yeah the detail was okay - but it was mostly plastic, and the pipework is very poorly attached, meaning that it breaks easily! I only give a 10 on detail, when it's all (most) cast metal, and extremely sturdily applied! All the best, Sam :)

Sam'sTrains yeah #119 pulled the train of a certain royal family hence why it is painted in malachite green and a star on the smokebix. Funny that the royal coat of arms didnt come with the loco when you got it
