Join me as I unbox this beautiful lightweight Meeden Watercolour Field Easel.
At just 3kg in weight and a height range from 23" (59cm) to 50" (127cm") makes it an ideal addition to your plein air painting kit. However with it being so lightweight you may want to add additional weight to the central column if working in windy conditions. If outdoor painting isn't for you then you could still use this at home, taking up very little space and with height adjustments to meet your needs, it could easily be used indoors too.

The only thing I would want to know about is the quality of that plastic. I would want to put quite a thick board onto the top.

Hi there, I haven’t placed a ‘thick board’ on this easel, if you know the weight of the board you’d be wanting to use you could contact Meeden (their customer service is very good). If I were going to use a heavyweight board I would attach it directly to the easel on a camera pivot mount. I hope this is helpful xXx

@@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist Thank you. It only needs to hold a board thick enough not to warp from the water so it wouldn't be that heavy

@@PrinceMonty153 oh that shouldn’t be a problem at all then. It’s a lightweight easel but sturdy enough to handle this kind of work. If you plan on painting outside, and want the legs at the full length, you may want to hang a small weighted item underneath xXx

Good morning. I have received mine yesterday and am unfortunately not really happy abt it. My painting board is wobbling from one side to the other and back-forward after fixing it. Do you have the same problem or is mine simply a mis-build and is worth getting in contact with the supplier? I am technically very much experienced so I am sure I haven’t done anything wrong. Thank you 😊

Hi there Andrea, sorry to hear that you’re having a problem with your field easel. Have you tried dismantling the board and then making sure that all aspects of the adjustable head mechanism are fully tightened? Then replace the board and see how it feels. Mine is very sturdy with no wobble. If you’re still having problems then you should definitely contact your supplier. Hope this helps xXx

How did it work in the field? Is it wobbly, does it move to horizontal positions? Keen to buy but don’t want it unstable

Hi there, I absolutely love it. Yes it can be easily adjusted to a horizontal position for laying flat washes etc. When working plein air is does exactly what it was designed to do, keep in mind that it is lightweight but not flimsy, you can use an S ring to attach a weighted item to the underside of the easel in windy conditions. I bought one of these easels and returned it after 15 minutes of giving it a full examination. I don’t recommend this easel at all. The ledge on the painting board is too shallow to hold a thicker canvas, board or thicker paper pad. You can only really use it landscape, not portrait. I tried using it portrait by sitting another drawing board on the ledge of the painting board, but that caused the painting board to tilt backwards because I couldn’t tighten the screws enough. It’s quite flimsy and not as versatile as it first appears to be. It’s awful. Don’t waste your money.

Awe sorry to hear that this easel wasn’t a fit for you and the way you like to work. I’m using it only as a field easel and haven’t experienced any problems with it. I use bulldog clips to clamp my sketch pads or paper to the board so having a smaller ledge is okay for me. I hope you find something to suit your needs xXx
