Uncharted, and Nathan Drake are one of the most iconic faces in gaming. The face of the playstation going toe to toe with titans like Master Chief and Mario, and the evolution from its original title of “Project: Big” to Uncharted was nothing short of magnificent. Ironically, this series that has, since its inception, been associated with the phrase “greatness from small beginnings” has been over the top from it’s first entry. The second Uncharted then came around and did everything the first game did right better, and any wrongdoings were corrected. While Uncharted 2 Drake's Fortune isn’t perfect, it gets respectfully close. A reasonable question to ask after receiving a sequel that topped its predecessor in every way is “How can they do it again?” How can Naughty Dog possibly make another game that not only improves upon its last installment but dwarf it in comparison? Perhaps Uncharted 3 is the answer.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is a 2011 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the third game in the Uncharted series, and was released in November 2011 for the PlayStation 3. The single-player story follows Nathan Drake, who partners with his mentor Victor Sullivan as they search for the legendary lost city of Iram of the Pillars, whilst competing with a mercenary group led by Sullivan's former employer, Katherine Marlowe.
Development for Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception began in 2010. For the first time in the company's history, Naughty Dog split into two teams; while one team developed Uncharted 3 the other developed The Last of Us. Development was approached with incorporating locations distinct from the series' previous entries, with the team deciding on a desert and urban areas, while they drew inspiration for the plot from archaeologist T. E. Lawrence. Naughty Dog also aimed to upgrade the game's openness and realism, which was done through increasing the volume of motion capture and voice acting, as well as conducting field research for better visual environments and sounds. The development team also sought to improve the multiplayer system, which included new competitive and cooperative modes, while the game is also notable for being one of the first to carry the new online PlayStation Network Pass feature.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception received critical acclaim for its voice acting, graphics, writing, story, and cinematic quality. Some criticized its linearity and found it inferior to Uncharted 2. The game received Game of the Year accolades from numerous publications and award events, and was a commercial success, selling over six million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 3 games. The game was followed by a sequel titled Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016, and was re-released on PlayStation 4 as part of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

Uncharted 3 is my favorite of the original trilogy. Unsurprisingly, it reminds me a lot of Indiana Jones and the last crusade. The chase through the desert to rescue a father figure, the mysterious man from the desert trying to keep the bad guys away, etc.

I love the cruise ship section. Regardless of it fitting in with the narrative (because I agree, it's not exactly necessary). It's just a really fun video game moment. I think it's easy to lose track of the idea of just having simple fun with these games. I've recently played through the 5 mainline games, and I'll admit to doing so on the explorer/easiest difficulty. I like the stories, and they are essentially playable movies. PS: The actual movie is so-so. I kinda like Mark Wahlberg as Sully, but not completely. I saw something about Tom Holland taking a break from acting...thank you, man. I know people love that guy, but holy shit. He's played Peter Parker in every movie he's appeared in

There are a couple of things you overlooked that could help you think better of the story: 1. Talbot is an illusionist. You complain about him being inconsistent but that's the point. It's why he survives the bullet and why he "disappears" into the wall. Chloe pulls the tarot card out of Charlie, so that should be a dead giveaway. 2. At the core, it's a story about the relationship between Sully and Nathan. It's why the flashbacks there. Chloe and Charlie cutting out early is intentional because it's meant to elevate Sully's insistence of staying with Nate when everyone else doesn't deem it worth it. "He would go to the ends of the Earth for you, Nate. Just don't let him," as Elena says. Next time you're confused about Uncharted 3's story, just ask yourself: how does this serve the story about Nate and Sully? You might be surprised at what you find.

I think everyone always misses the point. Marlowe and Talbot are supposedly descendants of secret British society that’s main weapon is fear. What is more fearful than the unknown, like a man who seems to defy basic laws of nature. This world has been shown to be filled with the paranormal, whose to say that this group doesn’t have a paranormal element. Sure, the game could have flat out said “hey, this group is magic” and try to explain it, but I feel like that would kinda take something away from all of that.
@angusb99
@angusb99 2 жыл бұрын
@@kennethmccanse9049 The other games do a better job of balancing the intrigue with actually justifying it through later explanation though. The Descendants of U1 were scary and mysterious and it's eventually explained they were turned into that from the contents of the El Dorado casket. In U2 the Shambala guardians are explained as having superhuman powers from consuming the sap of the tree of life. In U3, Talbot can survive direct bullets, teleports, and disappears into thin air because... why? The lack of an explanation does not make his character better, it makes the writing look way worse. And U3 is nowhere near as scary as U1 so they failed at that big time.

I asked my mum for a ps3 for my upcoming birthday as I only had Xbox 360 and played this game literally non stop all day on my birthday, only stopping briefly to say hello and thank you to family members who were dropping of presents and money. Uncharted 3 was my entry into the series as I was a young boy maybe around the age of 9 and I saw a demo of the game at Walmart and fell in love with it. The demo was the mansion on fire mission and I was amazed by it and wanted it ever since. I told my parents about it and for Christmas my mom bought it for me but she got the wrong uncharted. She ended up buying me uncharted two and that has to be the best mistake she could make as it is my all time favorite game and I have so much love for Uncharted. I will say one thing about the shooting in the original trilogy in NDC. I had played these games after finishing UC4, and the difference between the controls in UC4 and UC1 is so jarring that i had to completely learn the movement and shooting controls from scratch. By the time i reached UC2, it got more familiar with controls in UC4, and removed the stupid cover switch mechanics in UC1 with much better animations in UC2. One thing I have seen on UC2 and UC3 is that the aiming gets much more complicated in UC3 as the power of these guns feel like they are fighting continuously against my shooting. I don't really support the switch from the AK47 to the M9 as the shooting feels much worse and bullet-spongy in UC3. I honestly think UC2 has the best shooting controls in the whole trilogy as each gun actually feels like it can have an effect in the combat scenarios. Guns feel smooth and not sluggish. Far-off targets can also be seen and shot properly, and something like this feels absent from UC3. Also, due to the introduction of all the more realistic animations in UC3, the gameplay and gunplay feels more sluggish than UC2 as Drake takes so much time doing every action. I feel like i can't climb stuff as fast as i could in UC2, and the reload animations also take longer.

I just finished Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection on PS5, near platinum trophy, that was the first time I played The Lost Legacy. Really fantastic revisiting uncharted 4 remastered for PS5. Makes me want to play the originals again on The Nathan Drake Collection. I was a little tired after the plat so I opted to revisit The Last of Us Part 2 to plat that on PS5. Stayed away from The Last of Us original because I heard a PS5 remaster in the works?? Regardless Naughty Dog is king of storytelling in my book, just hoping for a co-op naughty dog game one day. A proper story co-op that progresses both players game!

Bro I loved the co-op survival mode cause playing that with my best friend on Saturday when he'd come over was the best it reminds of this thing we'd do you know when one player is on the verge of death and it gives you two options to kill yourself or wait till the other player came and revive you and it would count down from like I think 30 seconds can't remember anyway when that would happen to one us the other one would rush over to the player that needs reviving and throw a freaken grenade at them to kill them and then we would laugh

My biggest issue with Uncharted 3 specifically is the way everyone treats Drake like he will do and sacrifice ANYTHING for the sake of adventure and a bit of gold. However, in both Uncharted 1 and 2, he has moments around halfway through where he straight up wants to give up on the adventure because he feels the danger to himself or his friends is getting out of hand and they always talk him back into it. In Uncharted 1, he was ready to leave the island with Elena and never look back, but Elena wanted to keep pushing forward he wasn't convinced until he learned Sully was alive at which point saving Sully and subsequently Elena (after she gets grabbed by Nevaro) becomes his primary objectives. In Uncharted 2 he is ready to move away from the objective in order to save Chloe and after the train incident he was ready to give up on the whole thing, until Elena and Chafer convince him otherwise at which point the treasure isn't the goal, stopping Lazaravich is the primary objective which Nate still has reservations about. He isn't a thoughtless adrenaline junky like every character seems to think he is in Uncharted 3 it's usually the other characters that preasure him to keep going.

A quick comment about the Djinn sequence. If I remember correctly I have finished the game in the hardest difficulty or at least in hard mode (which can be a drag) and I know that what helped was my hours into the UC3 Multiplayer. Basically, people in the MP were so intense with instant jumping headshots and bunny hops OS that coming back to the actual AI felt like fighting against kids. It is not easy, but when you get accoustumed to the various gameplay techniques of the MP - in which cover and shoot is a death sentence - you can deal with the Djins w/o too much hardship. Especially when you learn that you can fire the T-Bolt without having to aim and it will automatically shoot the enemy if you're close enough ^^

I recently completed Uncharted 3 from the remastered collection for the first time. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a solid follow up to the second game. I enjoyed Uncharted 2 more though as it felt more like a treasure hunt and there were more twists and turns. But 3 still is a fantastic game. I'm halfway through Uncharted 4 and loving it so far.

If i was smart enough, i'd made it so the subway ads show up instead of the regular cutscenes. It would be funny to have drake all serious, climbing the landing gear of a flying plane, and just pulls out a large drink. 😂

Great Video, man the memories of this game. I agree the story was weak in my opinion but the gameplay was a blast. On one note I actually won the subway ad contest for the game. Interesting tidbit about the game's unlockable rewards (Tweaks, as the menu called them) is that the original PS3 release of the game had a very neutered offering; the ability to change your player model was not present, and I don't think the cheats were either, though maybe a few of them were still available. These were added back into the remaster by Bluepoint, who used the multiplayer models that already had lots of player rigging.
