On this episode we head to a small warehouse in an undisclosed location where Mick and his mates hang out and either work on there cars, or, talk B.S about there cars. Either way it's a great place for us to find a few Aussie classics. The location has a mancave full of memorabilia, old signs on the walls, Chev boot couch, BBQ and other creature comforts so they can wile way the weekend's in there own personal motoring nirvana. Because they are always working together they get plenty done and have a nice fleet of classic muscle to show for it.
Today we are focusing on 2 of the 4 cars we interviewed on the day, first up is Mick and his 1972 Ford XA GT which 1 of 1 options according to Ford Australia. This car is unrestored so to speak it last saw a paint job back in the 80's so the Pepper Red paint is a bit tired but still presents well. Mick likes it warts and all, I think it reminds him it's an old car and that's what he loves about it. it's running a 351 4V Cleveland, 4 speed top loader gearbox.
The engine isn't matching numbers but the engine number reviled its out of an XE Falcon N.S.W Police car. The interior is all original and also is in great shape for its age. But like the outside its got its blemishes. It's proudly sporting a cassette player and 8 grand tacho. Mick is wanting to keep this car as original and un restored as possible, it might sound weird but I can see the appeal. It really dose take you back to what we would see on the road back in the day. However Mick has made shore its safe by going right through the suspension and steering. The motor has also been out and freshened up. theirs still a few things to do but that's what owning an old car is all about according to Mick. its great to see that Mick is passionate about keeping the authenticity about this GT. And not wanting to loose it under perfect paint and oversized wheels.
The second car we look at is Andy's HX Holden 1 Tonner. Andy has had this car for about 12 months. He bought it as an unfinished project and finished it over that time. It's running a 308 V8 engine with turbo 350 automatic gearbox. And standard Salisbury diff. When asked his favorite thing about the car he answered promptly "THE ENGINE." he loves the sound of a V8, he's not particularly interested in going fast he just loves the sound it makes.
He has had the interior tidied up and it looks neat. He has left the tradesman spec dash and HQ style front end. Its sitting on a set of GTS wheels and is painted in the factory Jasmin Yellow. Andy wants to keep it simple and this makes this build easy to manage, plus his main goal is to cruise.
Were finishing this episode by looking at Mick's next project, which is 1971 XY Ford Falcon Ute. It's sitting on unique spit as they do the body work. Mick has big plans for this XY Ford Ute and we cant wait to come back and see it when its finished.
