Underneath your table saw extension table could be wasted space... so why not build a storage cabinet to fit? But just a storage cabinet might not be enough... how about a multi-use cabinet that can also be used as an infeed and outfeed table? Follow along as Steve makes a multi-purpose cabinet to compliment the SawStop Outfeed Table.
Part 8 is the final installment of this series. The tops for the cabinet are finished, roller balls added, and the decorative metal plates for the lifting mechanism are attached. And for the first time, I get to try it out!
The cabinet makes an awesome infeed table for the tablesaw, and a great outfeed table for the band saw. In addition, with the plain top attached, the cabinet can be used for a variety of purposes around the shop.
A couple of drawings and some additional information, including the sources for the hardware used, are all available for download for FREE on my website. Click here to download:

Thanks! Another tip about the lipstick... if the day is really going to be hot, don't leave it on the dashboard of your truck! Don't ask how I know that is a bad idea. Ha ha! Thanks for watching!

Steve did you consider making only one top and having a flat side and a roller ball side that you could flip over as needed or did you just want 2 separate tops as part of your workflow? I'm focusing more on the ultimate storage hassle but can understand that making 2 tops would be less complicated. I followed the build with great interest. Excellent job and thanx for posting the construction plans.

Hi great video series. Is there any particular reason you don't use mechanical fasteners?

Great question, Dalton, and I've got a short answer and a sort of "longish" answer. First, the short answer... I tend to use very few mechanical fasteners because of a dumb bias foist upon me by a furniture maker when I was very young. He said, "Fasteners are for amateurs." Of course, that is absolutely not true, and I do use fasteners sometimes. I use pocket hole screws often when building cabinets, particularly around the base portions when and where they will be well hidden. I also use 23 gauge pin nails to help position things during glue-ups, again, if the tiny holes left behind will be hidden or can be easily obscured. Fact is, assembling the "Ls" inside the legs on this project would have been much easier if I had used some pin nails to hold the parts in perfect alignment while the glue set up. The long part of the answer has to do with what I try to accomplish through these various video projects... I hope to give tips and tricks along the way that will get people's creative juices flowing and hopefully help them out when they encounter something unusual or difficult in the projects they tackle. That's why I showed making a simple 90-degree jig for gluing up those "Ls" rather than pinning them together. Then I was able to take that 90-degree jig and use it to make a sort of "homemade miter box" for sawing the aluminum square tubing. There are usually a whole bunch of routes one can take to get to the same destination, and the choice is up to each woodworker... It's one of the things that makes this hobby so great! Thanks for watching!

downtoearthwoodworks Well you're definitely creative when it comes to building these projects and your objective is definitely coming across. Because I am a new woodworker, well I wouldn't call myself a woodworker but I'm new to building stuff. Right now I am working on and entertainment center and because of watching your videos this one and the saw stop outfeed table. I'm trying to use very minimal amount of mechanical fasteners. I was very hesitant that the glue wouldn't be strong enough to hold it together, but it seems to be holding up for you. Thanks again for the video series very detail-oriented I've learned a lot.

This morning, May 13, I received the pop-up that this video had been published. So I viewed it and in the text it says it was published today, May 13. But, I watched this video a few days. Any idea what's causing this? I'm not complaining as I am known to watch Steve's videos 2, 3 and even 4 times to pick up the fine points. :)

Hi Jim, Many of my videos are published one week earlier on Highland Woodworking's KZfaq channel, then on my own channel. You likely saw it on Highland's channel first, then here. Thanks for watching!
