The final instalment of Fare Well and a message of hope for 2021!
Whilst part one and two of Fare Well looked at the year gone by, the finale turns from the celebration of Hogmanay, the end of the year, and looks with optimism to the future. Taking inspiration from a poem by Robert Burns (Sketch New Year's Day), Scots Makar Jackie Kay echoes Burns’ question about the night of Hogmanay and asks what did ‘yesternight deliver’ and like Burns, finds that there is hope, and that it is found in nature. Burns finds hope in looking up at the skies and says that something in us never dies.

Beautiful l! 😍 My flat is right next to Edinburgh castle and it’s just heartbreaking that the usual party isn’t happening tonight BUT the silver lining is that our sense of community has been wonderful in 2020. It’s been so lovely getting to know my neighbours better. I even to know a local homeless man who has been in the same spot for over a year. I’m now proud to call him my friend. Let’s take the lessons from 2020 into the new year and use them to make the future more supportive and loving. Happy new year 🥳 🍸

I was supposed to be in the North West Highlands - Gairloch - this New Year - cancelled obvs but gutted as it’s very rare for Scotland to be buried under snow, at New Year, it’s usually raining. Anyways, for my sins, I’ve just finished an 11 hour shift in one of the Sassenach’s hospitals (Celt abroad) but that’s ok. Watching this, after downing a wee dram, got to me no end - so beautiful, spiritual and calming. Thank you to all those artists and visionaries who created this ☘️

Scottish person here . Moved to England for work in 1977 . Health care assistant . So proud of this beautiful presentation of Scotlands Ner ' Day . Have shared this with so many of my English co-workers . They were all amazed and found it to be so touching . Also my lovely co-workers from Nigeria and India . What's Scotland accomplished is phenomenal. And I can't speak to the technicality of it all but what I mean by phenomenal is the impact it has had on me. It certainly has residual effects.

I think, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I've watched it over and over again now and still get goosebumps. I also shed a few tears the first time... I first came to Scotland for a two-week holiday in 2014 and fell in love and wanted to come back ever since. In 2019, I lived in Edinburgh for 5 months to do an internship at the university and travelled some more. I planned on coming back in 2020 ideally for Hogmanay... Scotland, and especially Edinburgh, have a big piece of my heart. I miss it and the wonderful people everyday. I absolutely cannot wait to come back!

@@eggberta I moved to Canada from Glasgow when I was 13. But went back every year from 19 to 23 to work in pubs over the summer. Supposed to be going home next summer for ma wee cousins wedding. Who knows if that'll happen though. 💔

THIS is the way forward. Please God this may end the fireworks age. Fireworks overhead here where we live were like WW2 last night. So damaging to dogs cats horses who have suffered so much some unfortunately to their death. What a wonderful answer to the frightening din we have to endure twice a year.
