Keep in mind that this is not a permanent fix. Keep it clean and apply more rust reformer when needed. I have tried other coatings, but nothing has been spectacular and a basic rust treatment has worked for me. Let me know what you have tried and how it has worked for you.

Bought a Toro Timecutter last April and 13 months later 2022 I'm about to remove my deck and get a look see under there. If needed I'll most likely use the Toro paint but Id be happy with a good quality enamel black. If I use it the Toro paint is $15 a can but a small price to pay to protect my deck. Roofing tar works great the oil in it will kill rust and the tar is flexable so rocks and things flying up hitting the underside of the deck doesn't sand blast it off. No new metal being exposed to the elements. Works great

For holes in the deck, bondo glass works great for filling them in. It has fiberglass in it so when it hardens it becomes rock solid. Shapes easy and hold up excellent. It’s not soupy like other body fillers either, it’s more of a thick paste so it stays were you put it and doesn’t run. Personally I think it’s easier to fill in holes with it instead of welding holes shut.

When the paint starts to peel on my deck I strip it, power wash it or scrub it with "Purple Power" degreaser, then I bring it to have it powder coated. After that I like the tar idea mentioned below. It should stay in good shape a lot longer that way.

How about getting as much rust off with a grinders with a wire brush on it ,clean the deck really good ,then go back and put prime on it ,then paint it

is that the same as pick up spray in bed liner? I thought that might be good it's tough stuff.

Need to use some Super Clean snd a presdure washet before using an undercoating. Im looking into Maji Slude. Just let everything fry goo with our hest doesnt take long then apply the coating.

Powerwash under it then coat it after it dries good.

That's good insurance for really thin deck protection. May have to do it often because of sandy spots in the lawn which can sand blast the paint off over time. I've seen decks where bolted down things just pop out of the metal leaving a gaping hole because of rust. Troy Bilt Pony comes to mind. Who wants to pay $500 for a new deck?

Do you have the water hose fittings that fit on the deck. Everytime you mow and finish . Hook up the hose. Run the mower full blast with the blades turning. Deck ask low as it will go. Let spray for a good 15 minutes. Or do it , and check to see how well it clean the underside of the deck. You may have to let it go longer. You mow on sand, or clay?

I use undercoat and I prefer John Deere paint. If Im doing a total rebuild evey five years the extra cost bevomes minimal.

The clue is in the name " undercoat" . You need to put on a gloss top coat afterwards.

Has anyone tried a good quality primer with teflon ??? Non stick finish. Lol.

Ok??....but what happened to your idea of a top coat epoxy (sink repair type paint) paint? Rust Reformer and cleaning process u have is solid,....but i am curious if u followed this vid up with a epixy paint topcoat for smoother finish? I think u r onto something, epoxy is very durable, possibly more resistant to mower debris sandblasting it....thus allowing longer periods of debris caking up, better flow, less maintenance?...i tried all the rust primers, paints....nothing lasts...maybe the epoxy paint will?

Ive noticed a lot of the top restoration guys douse things in mineral spirits. Let it set a week then start the rebuild.

You need to get what they called por-15 it's Russ paint it will only stick to very rusty metal and that stuff in about three or four days gets as hard as a rock you can't beat it off of the metal and undercoat absolutely sucks undercoat is tar-based it hold moisture anything you spray undercoat on your muzzle Kiss It Goodbye cuz it's going to completely rust out you either need to use if you've got a new mower deck with paint under and it's not Rusty than you need to use it activated urethane single stage but about three coats of that that'll last probably a year or two and that's pretty darn durable that's about as hard as a rock to but if it's already Rusty if you put por-15 on it you're done that stuff will last for five or six years and the only place it'll wear through is by the shoot there's a company called IES International epoxies and sealers they also sell a product called IES 1500 which is the same thing as a R Us coating rust paint sticks on the metal like a metal sticks on the metal if incredible and that is what you need to paint rusty metal with underneath of a mower deck if it's got paint on it again this that will not work it will not stick it has to be bare metal or bear rusty metal and undercoat under a mower deck all that's going to do is wear off in about a year that grass aware it off it's just under code is not much good for anyting

The underside of a mower deck is a horrible envoriment for any paint or coating. That's a waste of time as it'll just "sandblast" any paint off. Have the deck sprayed with Line-X bed coating. Mine has held up quite well
