I was lucky enough to be invited to a IPO seminar with world class trainers that was by invite only, it was an eye opener all had ecollars and all are skilled at using them ... still there training is based on motivation and building drive for the exercise...the ecollar is simply the best most exact way of delivering a measured correction that takes the least amount of drive out of the bank

very good talk, love watching these so I know the common issues and how to avoid them during my own usage. The part about 1.5 hr in which Larry & Nino speak about 2 stim levels is a very valid point. totally new tool and so controversial here that there are few trainers around, took me a week to learn the controls on me & what the button did/felt like. the dog wore it switched off for a week at least, took me a week to find his lowest level (didn't even go above 5 during this). from then we've been working with long lines to build e-collar meaning (to come to me) and when in low distractions situations dropping the line to proof recall. His recall on the long line and during play/training is very good, off-leash is the next step. I Hit a failure, I asked Robert Cabral about a 'blow off' situation and he had mentioned anticipating situations and setting different stim levels for different scenarios - the et300 allows you to set the boost above the normal +5 range, which came in handy at the weekend when environmental stims were much higher than anything around us. His normal level is 5 with a long line, I set the boost purely as an emergency 'HEY' backup at level 25, a leash with an intro with 2 other dogs would have been worse due to leash pressures than allowing freedom in a neutral open space (all dogs were pretty good, few telling offs for my pup for being rude but nothing major or to be concerned about), I stood away from the other owner too so there was plenty of space to prevent resource guarding of any dog. I had to use the boost once when all 3 dogs had gone running into a field which lead to an icy river, the other owner recalled hers and they came....my boy was in independent explorer mode & had his malamute ears turned off; called, 2-sec hold, ear flicked, body turned, let the button go, (no jump, no yelp nothing to suggest discomfort & fast response by both me & him) & jeez did he come in with his malinois side fully on show, tongue swinging out his mouth happy, fast & hot!!! mini sausages were his reward!! a crowd of scientists in full view may add all debating if he was gonna bolt or not. Still have lots to work on in many aspects, training every day. The above is a good example of teaching what the collar means. I keep my controller in my treat pouch so he can't distinguish if I'm getting a treat or pressing a button either. (multi-pocket bumbag/fanny pack).

Thanks Larry for always advocating for the dog. How many dogs are harmed and torchered by these things? Are the abusers being enabled by the promotion of these things and the excusing of the abuse

Dog culture has become so damn toxic for the animals. We live in a world that normalizes obesity and other things like reactivity or bad behavior over things like training (actual training, not teaching a dog to drop its ass every time the owner holds a treat in its face) and a healthy diet and a healthy weight. I don't remember the last time I saw an actual healthy dog that wasn't overweight, nor do I see very many dogs that have the slightest amount of leash manners. And I really, really appreciate the topic of discomfort/complacency. To a point, it can be damaging. But honestly, no decision that I have ever made that my wife and I benefited from in any way was comfortable. No way was any point where I reached any kind of growth out of a place of complete comfort. How is my dog going to overcome something like fear while I as a handler keep giving her a way to flee? My dog is by no means perfect, and I am by no means a perfect trainer, but I hate that people like me are criminalized for using tools in training when I myself and people like me have achieved so many good results from the training.
