Tremendousness

7 жыл бұрын

There's a lot of anger and aggression swirling around the world these days. Whether in politics, race, or religion, people tend to build walls to block out anyone they disagree with. Or worse.
But here's a way to enable conversations and interactions that lead to understanding, compromise, and real progress.
Here's how to see through the eyes of others.
Here's how Empathy works.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."
-Atticus Finch in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird”

I used to think I was a highly empathetic person and then I ended up being told for years that I wasn't and now my self-esteem is so low that I question if I was wrong and just didn't realize that I wasn't empathetic or if the people telling me I wasn't empathetic were genuinely being cruel. I used to think that any person who tries to ruin another persons hope has to just be being mean, but the people accusing me used all of my flaws to try and prove how I was wrong and they weren't and it's had me so doubtful of myself that I'm just not sure anymore. It's lead to me feeling completely hopeless and feeling like life isn't worth it anymore, that I shouldn't bother trying to achieve anything because no matter what I do I'm not smart, I'm not good looking, I'm not efficient and talented, I'm not kind and caring and sociable, I'm not self-aware, I'm not so many things that I honestly just find it less of a headache to be a nobody who is alone and doesn't matter to anyone. At least that way I don't have to put up with knowing they were right when I do fail and having to deal with the smugness and them being fake kind after, and others being angry and not believing me when I say they abused me as badly as they did and being mad when I say they're faking their kindness and ignorance.

Silence of the Skramz, I hope you have found someone to talk to rationalize/analyse what you are feeling and to get honest feedback regarding what others perceived as you "not being empathetic". You're correct regarding the possibility that they are simply being mean and their accusations are a means to deflect from their own selfish actions and thoughts. Research more into narcissistic behaviors and how to recognize a narcissistic or any other type of manipulative person. You are worth it, life is worth it. This is a tumultuous time within your entire lifetime but you will look back on it and remember all that you discovered about yourself and those around you. Keep going, rest when you are weary but keep growing and going! I wish you peaceful thoughts and happiness!

Dear people who thought it was a good idea to make this video: Empathy. Isn't. A positive. Trait. It's purely a skill, like smelling or seeing. Actually, it can be used by abusive and manipulative people for their advantage, since they have the ability to understand your feelings and use it against you. You can be a good person without instantly getting to someone's brain. And you can be a serial killer but with great empathy skill. It's not about what you have or not, but the usage of your skills and your intentions. TL;DR you're trying to be woke by being ableist

Narcissism is similar to empathy because they learn to read facial expressions and learn what makes people tick… it’s very different than being empathic …
