Some would argue that this reaction is way too mild and that, surely, a guest wouldn't actually be this reasonable. For that, I say... Go check out the other ending! 😉
I hope you enjoy this newest video idea! I honestly couldn't decide on how to end this skit... Would she be understanding? Would she have a complete meltdown? Since I couldn't decide, I thought, "Why not both?!"
If you have a story of your experiences working at hotels, or just in customer service in general, please share it with me! I may even make a skit out of it! 😉

Bad endings are more memorable and happen more often than we like, but I think it's easy to forget that most interactions end up being pretty mundane and forgettable. The majority of people are still reasonable.

Agreed! It’s mostly better that way. Don’t be the nightmare client. Be patient, understanding and even giving a compliment to your front desk employee can make their day.

And quite often people just need a time frame. Always try to err on the long side as a person is happier to hear that it was finished sooner than expected than later.

Yeah the understanding guest got to stay Period. She can change in the changing rooms for dinner if she needs to, and now knowing that it probably won't be ready until evening she'll probably just enjoy her time.

This seems like the more realistic ending to a guest like this. Sometimes when people are on vacation they tend to be more chill

Hmmm... you'd be surprised honestly! Been working in hotels now for 12 years, and more often than not, we see people NOT being understanding of how hotels work, or why sometimes we have to take more time to prepare a room. For example, in the vast majority of hotels in the province of Quebec, there is no more "Smoking rooms". Unfortunately, some "guests" still decide to smoke in their room, and when that happens, we have to leave an ozone filtering system in the room for a minimum of 5 hours to get rid of the smell. When that happens, we usually simply block the room for the night, and leave the machine working during the night to make sure that the smell is gone. When that happens, and we are sold out , we have to try to find another place for the guests (for wich WE pay for), but it's usually not that big of a problem. However sometimes, some guests just don't want to be "reasonable" and prefer to "blow a gasket" at us. Fortunately for us, there is a police station right on the street corner from us... So when that happens, and I don't feel like dealing with their BS, I simply call the cops and have them expelled from the premises. 😂

You would think, but some people are hella unreasonable. My one grandma would pull stunts like demanding a restaurant comp the entire tables bill because the server refused to "refill" the appetizer. No, not order another one, she wanted it for free. So she'd demand the manager to demand free stuff because she was denied free stuff. Like no, being denied free stuff does not mean you are entitled to free stuff. Shocker, I was always "busy" once I became an adult and she wanted to go out to eat.

Aside from showing how it is much better to be polite, this also shows that you can actually benefit a lot by asking for stuff. If you are willing to work with people, and accept a no when they can't help, it can really pay to ask.

No kidding. We once were late to online check in for a flight and there weren't any seats next to each other (other than the expensive exit row). So the next morning when we got to the airport we asked really nicely at the counter and there was (obviously) nothing they could do, so we smiled and said "no worries, totally understand, thanks for trying". Then an hour later, guess who gets a tannoy call upgrading us into the exit row for free...?

It certainly won't entitle you to anything, but at the very least you and everyone else around are happier and things go smoother, which is reason enough to be kind. If you're lucky like you've been a few times, you may get perks! Being rude almost never comes at an advantage. It does make you & others unhappy, and may end in disadvantage too. In the bad ending the rude girl gets kicked out of the girls trip.

I try to be that kind of person when interacting with any form of customer service/hospitality workers. They work so hard to accommodate and help with whatever they can, and reacting with pateince and understanding makes everything so much easier for both parties. The only times im not super pateint and understanding is when talking to companies that dont address the problem or explain and try to distract me from it (eg credit card and phone companies)

I was at a conference this past spring and our room reservation was several hours overdue. I didn’t have anything to do so was just hanging out in the lobby. About an hour past, one of the staff asked if there was anything they could do for me, and I just mentioned that I would like somewhere I could put our luggage (my roommate and I had formal attire for evening events that took up a lot of room) and they very kindly tucked it into a space out of the way and I was able to mingle with other conference members and enjoy myself without worrying about my items until the room was ready.

All joking aside, isn't this how MOST people are? The Karens are called so because they are the exception no the rule. Me, I'd have been so chuffed to have the balcony and the sea view I'd have gone out for a little shopping while I waited and got a little thankyou card for the hostess. This is a "most people" ending, and in a bit we'll see the "Karen minority" ending!

So we actually had a similar thing happen. Totally our fault that we came early. It was a convention and things just happened that way. We were totally ready to wait. We had paid for a city view and they said it wasn't ready but would call us as soon as it was. We walked around for a couple of hours and just decided to check on it, not expecting anything. They were super polite and apologetic, even if they had no reason to be. We told them it was all good, we were ok, just looking for an eta so we could plan accordingly. They said that while our original room was not ready, they had another room, same kind, but on a higher floor, so it was a nice bump. They were very nice and gave us our keys, told us where to go, and made our weekend great. Kindness and understanding are excellent tools. The room was awesome and i really want to go back next year.

This is precisely why I tell people you always catch more flies with honey. The number of times I've been treated well just because I treated the service team helping me like humans. It really is worth it to build a rapport of being an easy to work with, reasonable customer so when things DO go wrong, you have a bunch of people that *want* to help you. (Plus, you know, these people are humans and we should treat them nicely regardless.)

I will say that it is a bit dumb when you have check in and check out times and you in the first video didn't exactly say later that evening but said a couple hours. Communication could've gone better from the start by saying "This room won't be ready til later this evening" instead of having the guest play the potential waiting game. While this was a better ending, she would've also had a right to be upset by the lack of clear concise communication.
