Jason first sits down and tells you the ins and outs of using High Speed Sync with your camera and explains how everything works. He then walks you through a shoot he did in Tasmania, Australia using High Speed Sync showing you the differences between when the flash fires vs. when it doesn't.
High Speed Sync and Hypersync are some of the most frequently asked questions Jason receives and is the reason why he created this video that we hope helps all of you out there.
We thank you for watching and invite you to stick around and watch a few more videos while you're here....

Layman's terms on why use HSS: 1).It's a bright day 2).You need your model facing away from the sun (no squinting) This creates unsightly shadows which we want to eliminate but we still want to retain a shallow depth of field For a wide aperture we need a fast shutter speed due to the bright conditions Using HSS we can overpower the shadows without losing shallow depth of field and without overexposing the natural light
@paulscottfilms
@paulscottfilms 6 жыл бұрын
I see an argument for a slightly expanded depth of field. He was keeping clouds in some focus sometimes and to me the entirety and lasting value of the shot is better this way. However no question about HSS in general. Its great.

Come to Tasmania! Joking aside...I LOVE using HSS.. I think everybody should know and understand it if you're charging people money. The more you learn and the more you know the more value you have.. I tend to be a nerd when I love something. I fell in love with photography two years ago and I study every single day. Now after 2 years I'm outshining a lot of local photographers. And they're actually asking me questions on learning new tricks and techniques. Learning high-speed sync is just having another tool in your tool belt

Great video Jason. Very helpful info. Im sure many didnt know that HYPERsync used 1:1 power. Great model. Loved the voiceover as well. Makes it easier to understand and concentrate on the info. Keep up the great work as always my friend.
@likeawhispr
@likeawhispr 3 жыл бұрын
@Stephen Soukup, hypersync DOES NOT require one to shoot 1:1 it only requires the power turned up enough to give a long flash duration. Broncolor doesn’t require full power for HS for example, you just have to basically use at least 50% of the flash power, which on location you’re often doing anyway. Inferior lights usually have less options. Other than that, overall Jason’s video is on the money.

Jason, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and giving me, ..I take it personal, ..food for thought when it comes to using flashes and mono lights. After watching the wedding shoot you did on the beach using the Flashpoint rovelight, I decided to get one, and it works nicely. what I didn't realize was that I needed to buy the specific triggers to make it happen. ..I couldn't truly achieve the hss with the triggers it came with. I am truly amazed at how beautiful your pictures come out. ..and I'm determined to make it happen for myself. thanks man for taking the time to make these videos. if you ever come down to Florida, let me know.

Jason Lanier I put photo groups together where I live in Des Moines Iowa. About 60-70 people show up to learn how to shoot sunsets and cityscapes but 95% percent of what I know a of lighting subjects comes form watching so many of your videos much more than once. Right now I'm working on a GoFundMe me project to raise money to buy gear for one of the kids who shows up with a really old Nikon camera. Oh just to be clear, I'm not asking for anything but your videos have me just about convinced to scrap the D810 plan for him and get him an a7r2. Heck I might even go that route myself because I keep watching your videos.
