My Dad had a pacemaker when he was 77 yrs. I had black outs at 77. Pacemaker battery lasted 10 years. Replaced on Dec 6 last year. It was done locally. The first pacemaker was put in because I flat lined 12 beats. Was a painless way to die! Am set at pulse of 62. Life is good!!! Not to worry. My pacemaker is in vein to heart. My dad had a sternum break & large battery below the waist. New & improved by Medtronic. they had been in business 3 years when Dad got his.

I had an ICD installed about 2 weeks ago and the percedure went flawlessly. I guess it's doing it's job but I don't feel any difference. Almost full range of motion but I'm not pushing it. Just ask a lot of questions and trust the process. My doctor didn't have the best communication skills but the rest of the team was great.

Some of this information is out-of-date but it IS better to err on the side of caution. Obviously, preventing an incision from becoming infected is VERY important. Not lifting or carrying something heavy with the left arm will avoid pain caused by tearing tissue, which CAN mean the electrical wires going into the heart may have moved. There are now implantable cardiac defibrillators with Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) that constantly work to keep the four chambers of the heart working in the proper sequence. Patients whose heart rate has been too slow (bradycardic) for many years, may initially report that the pacemaker is making their heart "race." They are often sensing the right (aortic) and left (pulmonic) heart valves closing at the same time, especially if one HAD been delayed before the pacemaker was introduced. Depending on the nature and severity of each individual's heart condition, they may be cleared to drive at their first post-op wound check/equipment interrogation.

Having been an ICD patient since 2001, now on ICD #4, doesn't mention is the shocks are ramped. ie. shock #1 is like 15 Joules. The next shocks are at 30 or 35 Joules. In other words, shock 1 is like getting kicked in the chest but the next ones are like being hit by a freight train. One time hit by 3 and another time by 5. All were caused by T Wave oversenseing. The newer ICDs are much better now in avoiding Double counting the heart rate and also with what I call overdrive pacing(ATP) that tries pacing the heart before shocking. I will say my first two ICDs were nightmares and my second two pretty Cool. I realize that a lot of people are unconscious during shocks but I was awake for all 16 I've been through. Don't let me scare you but be ready for a year or two or more to get the fine tuning of ICD. Life will get better. I'm still alive and kicking. 73's NE7NE

Robert Watterson do you have any ptsd from all of the shocks? I already have anxiety issues. I’m getting my ICD in a month and I’m very nervous

Oh man!!!! Someone in my Family just got one this year a week ago actually! I hope it ain't messed up like that! Edit: Woops, I just realized ICD isn't a Pacemaker ( I think ) so nevermind lol. I wonder what's worse... ICD or Pacemaker.

Anthony A The ICD shocks the pacemaker just paces. I got my ICD in June. I regret it. The doc damaged my nerves and also made my arm numb. Now no one seems to know what to do and they claim nothing is wrong 😡

What the hell!! Oh hell no! I'd be pissssssssssed if that was done to me... This is making me reconsider getting surgery for MY terrible bone degeneration (I'm 19 but my lifestyle has made nearly all my joints grind terribly…. Ugh) I have compression on many nerves around my joints but now I fear that surgery will just really f**k me up. Sorry to hear that happened to you! I've heard about "Nerve Regeneration" from a guy named "Dr. Morse" he's treated people with MS (also Cancer and a bunch of other illnesses that he's healed) and gotten them to walk again, one story I heard from him himself was about a little girl who couldn't sing, she couldn't walk, couldn't move her arms, dance, anything, after getting on his plan (I'm guessing the parent's took her to him in person) she regenerated her nerves and was able to sing again, walk, etc. Maybe you could benefit from that dude's info and stop the numbness, not sure but he has his own website but it's like $10 to sign up, *(so I haven't signed up YET! But I do want to because then I can order some of his really potent herbs/tonics to help the body to detox and/or heal on top of the healing/detoxing that happens from the Fruitarian diet.)* I personally started following his Raw Fruitarian diet routine since around 1 and a half months ago and I personally feel like my moods are much better controlled, (had baaaaaad anxiety before) my sleep is way better, no longer waking up in the middle of the night twice, and the inflammation (or I guess nerve compression) from my joints rubbing together seems to be around 10 - 20% less nowadays. I can only hope it gets better in the coming months if I keep eating so healthy. side info: he's been doing his naturopathy research for over 40 years at this point. side side info: there's a youtuber named Rawb Wild who shows he healed his TERRIBLE Rheumatoid Arthritis by following Dr. Morse's teachings. *(The doctor's he would go to did nothing to help and basically said he was screwed for life.)* He has photos and everything to prove it so our Diet can really help our bodies heal in some amazing ways. I really am wondering if it could help your nerves recover/repair properly from the damage that doctor did. That reminds me... Dr. Morse has some Nervous system product(s) that I suppose promote a healthy nervous system. Just thought I should mention that since we're talking about nerves. Peace.

Anthony A thank you sweetie for the information. I pray you get better. That’s horrible to go through. You are too young to not get any treatment for your issues. You should try the surgery , because with your condition will get worse without treatment. Take care and God bless ❤️

Damn! I SAW A similar story from a guy who said he was currently 18 and had one in since being 1 HOUR OLD and that he's lived like normal all his life so far. He's on his 9th pacemaker he said.

Question have you been on ssdi since you where born or did you live a normal life without social security disability. Just asking cause since I had my icd device put in ice been on ssdi. But I also work part time too

I have one because I survived SCA/SCD, I only probably survived because I was actually in the hospital and they were able to get started right away.. I was rushed in earlier that day with a heart attack and was looking like I was ready to go into a cardiac arrest but although I seemed to have started to level out, it happened .. weeks later after recuperating I had the ICD implanted.. it's been a strange experience and I can't believe I am still here..

1bus driver friend gave me a hug and his ICD went off. And I was hit by the ICD hit my chest when he was a bit late to his own life and I received the shocking 🤯 and I got a good size bruises. Dr. Forgosh said never hug someone else who ICD in his chest when you get hit it hurts alot.

If I knew what I was getting myself into I would have just got the pacemaker instead of the pacemaker/ICD combo implant. I'd rather die than get shocked by that thing again.

So,, why didn't they mentioned how is or are the leads inserted and what happens when there is a a lead failure and the full chock is delivered due to false lead interpretation!!!... An actual situation!!!

I have one and I get skips and night sweating. Basically before I had this inserted I was not having this problem. every time all threw the day off and on.help plz my doctor said it my potassium. Taking those and I don't feel any changes plz help. Howard Turner.

Junior Thompson I just had this done last month. I am a worry wart but it was like God preparing me back in May 2019 that as we planned to come to the states for a 3 month visit, He told me loud n clear “ leave it to me.” I tried to worry again about our plans and God would remind me to leave it with Him. So I’m not a dummy and I stopped worrying. And in September my heart became so crazy ( I have dealt with Afib since 2006) I went to the ER. Now I can say I never worried, not once when all this started. I first got the PM then 2 wks later I had to have an ablation. Since then my sinus rhythm has been steady for the first time in 13 yrs. I am now experiencing a sore pain around the area. It is had to get use to this foreign object inside you but it is better than the alternative. Take care and know your health is more important than the fear of the unknown.

Bulshit, it's like getting kicked by a horse and tased at the same time it makes your heart feel like it's going to explode it's beating so hard afterward. Scariest experience of my life.
