Understanding RV 120 Volt Electrical System in your RV!

The typical electrical systems found in your Keystone RV are a combination of 12-Volt DC (Direct Current) and 120-Volt AC (Alternating Current).
In simpler terms:
1. 12-Volt system is what an automobile uses
2. 120-Volt system is what powers the outlets in your home
To power the 120 volt system, plug the shoreline cord into an outside power source or connect to a generator if equipped. Your unit is equipped with a converter or battery charger that only operates when the shoreline cord is plugged into an appropriate 120V power source or generator. This converts 120V to 12V to operate your 12V features in your unit, also sends a low charge to your battery.
120 Volt Configurations
1. 30 Amp Service - Most commonly used in RVs and available in campgrounds. Many items in your Keystone RV operate on 12 volt power and do not require much energy. It is recommended to only run one major 120 volt appliance at a time to avoid tripping breakers.
2. 50 Amp Service - Vehicles equipped with 50 amp service can run two air conditioners in addition to a few other appliances at the same time when plugged into a 50 amp outlet.
Adapters
Adapters are available for conversion of electrical sources. A few adapter options include: a 30 amp cord allowing to plug into a standard wall receptacle which is not GFCI protected and a 50 amp cord into a 30 amp service or a standard wall receptacle which is not GFCI protected. Do not run any 120 volt appliances when plugged into a standard 15 amp wall outlet. Adapters are only intended to run the converter supplying 12 volt power for interior lights and charge the battery. Adapters are not to be used when using an extension cord and do not plug multiple extension cords together. This can cause operational problems with the RV and increase the risk of fire, property damage and personal injury.
Breakers and Fuses
Breaker panel is located inside the unit next to the 12Volt distribution panel. If using an adapter, be mindful of the energy consumption as they increase resistance and may trip breakers. If a fuse is blown or a breaker is tripped, always identify the cause and correct it before installing new fuses or breakers. Never install a fuse or breaker with a higher rating than specified.

so one appliance at a time???? so if you are plugged into a 30amp service at a campsite, you can only run the AC or the hot water tank OR the microwave??? do people actually turn their AC off so they can run one of the other things???

just bought me a 2019 keystone outback (30amp service).........if i upgrade the wiring to the panel to 6gauge, and convert the entire wiring to the outside plug to 6gauge 50 amp service, can i run everything at the same time? (1ac, 1 water heater, etc...) is the problem just with the 10gauge wiring going to your main breaker panel in the RV? because they should be an easy fix to upgrade the main service wire to a 8 or a 6gauge...and basically just terminate one of the 220 legs so im just running 1 leg (110v) but going through a 6 or 8 gauge wire and neutral

For vehicule equipped with 50 amp? Would be nice to have more information such as electrical panel behind the scene hidden fuses and converter. Spent two days and two trip to 2 rv center to find a knowledgeable technician to fix 2 blown fuses. How about a 50 amp power distribution explained video for 2024 Bullet

Hello, i just purchased a 2022 Coleman Lantern 17B. It comes pre-wired for a rear view/back up camera. The one that the dealer had was outrageously expensive so i just got one from Amazon. The question is.... when i took the Furrion housing out i noticed that the connecting wire was in it but not connected to anything. This connecting wire has a red and black raw wires to be fixed to whatever is in the camper. I also noticed this connecting wire is in fact compatible with my Amazon camera because it fit perfectly. The problem however is with the wires coming out of the RV. I get 2 green coated wires merged with a black one and 2 white coated wires merged with a black one. The question is...the connecting wire has red and black. How do i correctly connect that connecting wire to the set of wires coming out of the RV?????

We just bought a 2022 Keystone Cougar 355FBS. There was a power surge at the rv park we are staying at. I have a surge protector but after all the power came back on the tv outlet and 2 pop up electric/USB outlets stopped working. Checked all fuses, breakers, and the gfci in the bathroom and all is good. Any ideas?
