One bittersweet aspect of Tamako Market is the fact that neighborhood shotengai (shopping streets/alleys) are slowly dying out in Japan due to urbanization and competition from big box stores (See Sakura Quest, another great iyashikei series). On a positive note, HiDive just got Non Non Biyori Vacation movie to cheer you right back up.

There were two moments that broke my heart while watching this show...the first when Tamako recalls the last time the shopping arcade closed early, and the second when she quietly screams her anger about everyone wanting her to leave. It was so sad seeing someone who is always upbeat and positive breaking down like that, and even when she does she is still so considerate of others that she screams quietly so as to not wake others. That scene hit me hard as it felt like the real world of ours breaking through in to their perfect world. It's a brilliant shows and I'm glad you explained the origins of it as the tone was one thing I found a bit weird going in to it. It could easily have been a normal slice of life story without the Dera storyline and I didn't really understand why they included something like that which played a big part in the show but wasn't really necessary at all.

It's when we are struggling that we can benefit the most from a helping hand. Don't be too hard on yourself. I don't know if it'll help here, but what helps me come back is to focus outward & try to help others. It can give a great sense of accomplishment & you can take pride in being a part of your community. Another alternative is to revisit shows that bring you joy or nostalgia, like your favorite movie as a child. Your feelings are important too, sometimes they need a little nurturing.

Don't say that. You haven't disappointed anyone. These anime, and the people that created them, wanted to create things that would inspire, and bring joy to others, all the while driving home an important message they believed was important to convey. You were inspired by them. But you shouldn't let inspiration make you think like you owe it to them to get better. That's not what they would want. To quote Jack from another video: "Stop living to what's expected of you, live to yourself." You aren't a bad person for being in a dark place. Don't put yourself down, because I know you are capable of so much more than you know.

As someone who grew up very similarly to Tamako, in a small town where everyone knows my family, I relate mostly to her. Whenever things don’t feel as good as I would want them to be, I remember all the times I grew to cherish my town‘s community so much and the hope that I will feel like this again some day makes me feel much better. Tamako Market made me treasure and appreciate what I have, even if I move away, even if things change, the memory and feeling of experiencing it will stay forever. That’s what makes Tamako Marker special to me.

I don't think it can be understated how Reiko Yoshida's work on CLAMP adaptations like Angelic Layer and Kobato, the very community-focused Aria, being the original writer of Tokyo Mew Mew and, of course, K-On, made her uniquely suited for this story.

Wow this video really made me realize why I seem to like so many KyoAni shows where it feels like nothing’s actually going on in terms of traditional plot. It’s because the studio is so good at depicting daily life and human interactions that make sense and bring their characters to life. I saw it in Tamako with shiori’s struggles to find her place in a tight knit group, in a silent voice with the psychology behind why Ueno bullied Shoko, in K on with Azusa struggling with the identifying her feelings when she realized her senpai were all going to graduate, and so many other moments in their shows. These shows don’t need any grand plots of deep philosophy to be great because they do these simple aspects of the human experience so well, and that’s why we all love them despite many calling them bland or boring

I decided to watch Tamako Market after I had watched this video and I'm so glad I did. I finished the last episode like 4 minutes ago and it was so uplifting, like everything was lighthearted and I feel like things like the quotes could be applied in real life since they're so true. There were two quotes that reminded me of another video of yours, the first one was "Mido-chan. I feel like I'm standing on the edge of space too." and the second was "I don't want to change. I want to change. We all hold in our hearts conflicting feelings, each back to back. And so we live our days. " Both of these reminded me a lot of your At The Entrance To The Universe video which I also loved.

I watched this anime last year. Didn't really understand why I loved it and kept watching it. It felt like so much and depth has been put into the production compared to other series similar to it. I barely knew about kyoaani until the tragedy happened. I read up on it and sure enough I could gather bits and pieces on why I love their works. The people who worked on them are not just doing their job for the sake of it but also enjoying it and learning from it. So far I think kyoani is the only studio that puts care to their staff and not just the art their creating.

One of the best scenes for me is when Tamako discovered that the song her mother used to sing is a song written by his dad to her mother 😭❤️

I almost cried when you got to the end. The beautiful message of optimism, especially during this very difficult time in our lives, is so important to hear, and Tamako Market and KyoAni truly exemplify it. I haven't seen Tamako Market in years but it is still one of my favourite series to this day. I found it hard to express exactly why I love it so much but your video explains it so well. It might be time to finally rewatch it after all these years and bring some optimism back into my life.
