As a Falcon fan what im hearing from the national media and all the fans of other teams is that its a bad pick because we paid Cousins. Okay please remember that we havent had solid QB play since 2021 with Ryan it that was below avg for him. We had to deal with Mariota, Ridder and Heinicke at QB. So in Free agency ( which comes b4 the draft) you're telling me to gorget the past 3 seasons and not go get the best free agent QB because we have our eye on a guy in the draft which is six wks away? No go get you guy in Free Agency. If Cousins does what we hope him to do we will not be in the top 10 again next yr or the yr after which is where most high rated QBs are taken. Not to mention the tampering allegations , hell, we may not have a 1st next yr. Last point. Next yrs QB class has been called weak already. What QB would be better than Penix next year? JMO

The problem with the pick is that one of the benefits of drafting a QB is getting him on his rookie deal and building around him having Kirk with that contract negates that if the Falcons really loved this rookie QB they should have not went after Cousins

I think everyone assumes they wanted to draft him at 8 when they didn't. They wanted to draft him late in the early 2nd round. Meaning trade down draft a DE then trade back up and draft Penix that was the plan. Nobody thought the market for Penix was going to take off like that. Nobody did or planned on it. Because of his injury history and thwy didn't think he was mobile enough. Then he threw at the combine.snd everybody said ohh damn." Then his medicals turned out to be all Green, meaning he was super good. Everybody said ohh damn again." Then he ran at his pro day and ran a 4.5 4.6 40 and had a 32-inch vertical, and folks said here we go. All of a sudden, his stock went threw the damn roof. Everybody wanted a private workout. You can't deny talent. Man, Penix is the only QB since Mahones at TexTech to throw back to back seasons of 45k passing yards. The man led his team to a National Title game. It is what it is. 4 damn teams called the Falcons trying to trade up to get Penix....All of that, we we're going to trade back up to get him in the late first early 2nd round, thought went right out the window. Nobody thought that many QBs were going that early in the 1st nobody! So lets cut the crap. They Signed Cousins thinking that Penix woukd be available late 1st early second. They had to change plans and draft him at 8. That's how it goes sometimes. The Falcons are the talk of sports right now....good bad or indifferent....publicity is publicity 😂 if nobody is talking about you. it's cause you are not making waves. The Falcons are making Big Waves....and they got the best thrower in the draft. Like it or not, he's one of the better young QBs in the League now. And he's a Damn Dirty Bird.
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 16 күн бұрын
You can't compound a mistake by making more mistakes. Either you sign Penix or Cousins, doing both puts a cap on the team potential by either limiting their ability to go for it now, and taking money from the future so the team can't build around a rookie QB. The GM should be fired, he hasn't made the right pick with our top ten picks yet.
@sweetnessdabutta9985
@sweetnessdabutta9985 16 күн бұрын
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats you basicly saying you know more about the Falcons roster...plans moving forward...and money situation than GMs and Head Coaches that make 1mil to 7 mil a yr. Smh, nope, you don't. You talking out your ass my friend. Don't be a bird and chirp what you hear from talking heads.
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 16 күн бұрын
@@sweetnessdabutta9985 Just because someone has a job, doesn't mean they are good at that job. What has the GM done that makes you think he knows what he doing? His last head coach got fired, he hasn't improved the teams record since he has gotten there, and the team has the exact same holes in the roster it had four years ago. Not one player he has drafted after the first round has become anything more than a rotational player. You accept because he as the job he is an expert, you don't actually pay attention to his performance. As for the coach, last head coaching job he had ended with him fired. 21-38 is what we call a losing record. I guess he most know it all because he got a job. The argument from authority is a logical fallacy, and obtaining knowledge in this way is fallible. You should read up on logical fallacies.
@sweetnessdabutta9985
@sweetnessdabutta9985 16 күн бұрын
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats he didn't hire the last Coach. The Coach was hired by the front office not Terry so to put that on him is crazy. 2nd He didn't tell Art to say he good with Mariota and Ridder. Art did that. He Art wanted Pitts so he drafted Pitts, Art wanted Big WRs so he drafted London, Art wanted Robinson so he drafted Robinson. With that being said those aren't bad picks at all. If there were bad picks nobody would be saying how talented the Falcons are on Offense. But reguardless of how you feel about this past draft the bottom line is you only go as far as your Qb takes you. Its the most important position on the field. Everybody knew Tampa was good...but they had Winston at QB who is trash so they were just ok. In step Brady Boom they win a SB. The Steelers have Watts at LB/DE has is a double digit sack guy every yr. How many Playoff wins does he have?!?! None How many playoff wins do the Steelers have since Big Ben retired?!?! None Nuff said man
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 16 күн бұрын
@@sweetnessdabutta9985 He didn't hire Smith, he got Smith fired. He brought in players that Smith didn't know how to use, the record didn't improve and he got fired. If you are saying that he drafts who ever he is told to draft, than what is the point in him having that job? Those were bad picks because they didn't make the team better. You can only go as far as your QB takes you, but you still can only play one of them at a time. We now have two, and based on the way we drafted, one of them is a 100M bridge QB. You say Winston was trash because the greatest QB ever won a SB with his team after bringing in the second greatest TE ever, as well as AB. They brought in all the FA Bardy asked them to so that he could win a championship in a short window. They didn't draft a QB in the first round after siging him did they? He was older than Cousins, so why didn't TB get their QB of the future? The Chargers have Herbert, how many playoff wins does he have? NONE. So does that mean no one should draft a QB? How many playoff wins does Miami have since Jason Taylor retired? None for 23 years. Is that "Nuff said man" that is a ridiculous stat.

The defense is actually going to be better you stole Jalen Trice who's supposed to be a first round pick. Not to mention Jimmy lake is bringing the Death Row Defense to Atlanta. I watched him literally give Mike Leach who is the one of the best offensive coordinators of all time fits. He's not a great head coach but it's kind of unfair to have him as a defensive coordinator. Is crowning achievement is a cornerback who plays for the Chiefs by the name of Trent McDuffie. He also made Buddha Baker Marcus Peters The NFL's littered with his developed talent.

Atlanta is Eastern Time zone everyone admits West Coast games doesnt get viewed like that. Yeah Penix was putting up numbers but people weren't really taking him seriously. It's just a frequently injuried pac-12 quarterback in the league known for not playing defense . Up until they actually got a medical grade on him at the combine at the end of February and then went to his pro day in March and then their own private evaluation in April could they make a good assessment on him. Because all you heard was buy his injuries, but his injuries, but injuries.

You have to have a trade partner to trade back. The defensive players in this draft were not transcending. No Micah Paraons, no Will Anderson, no effin Lawrence Taylor. I mean, one of these defensive players COULD end up being a world beater, but none of them showed anything on film that spoke to that level of a player. I watched film on the top three Edge guys, and the others and I didn’t see much of a difference. I love the Penix pick.

The problem is Michael penix is a generational talent. He's got the heart of Byron leftwich and the arm of Warren Moon. If you don't sign Kirk cousins and say you sign a Jacoby brissette and then you say well I'm going to pick him up at pick number 20 after I trade down what the hell happens if a team like Denver decided to pick him you'd be screwed. All it takes is one general manager to fall in Love with a quarterback and your plan is screwed. The Seahawks wanted to trade up but no one would trade with them they watched him all year and they knew who how damn good he was. This will not be debated anymore in 3 years. Atlanta knows there's going to be plenty of tackles and defensive ends and corners that are going to be available for the next couple years I don't think we're going to see another Michael penix because I've never seen one of these in college before. Name me one quarterback that took his team to an undefeated season and set his coach up for the best coaching job in college football. Washington was a good team but not a great team. It was Penix and Braelyn Trice both of which Atlanta got that made them a great team.

Talented no doubt but still 24 years old with 5 season ending injuries under his belt. Drafting an injury prone back up with potential as a insurance policy to a 36 year old qb1 coming off an achilles injury is just not a smart investment

That remains to be said but he made Washington from mid-tier pack 12 to a national title contender. and it wasn't Kaleb Deboer. We had pretty much the same team that lost to Montana at home then you add penix and we're one of the best teams in the country. Although he probably owes Penix a lot of money for all that money Alabama gave him. The reality is if Penix didn't play as well as he did at Washington Alabama doesn't even pick up the phone. We won that league with three and four star talent when teams like Oregon and USC got all the top tier talent and all the five-star recruits. When it's all said and done I'm pretty sure Penix and Trice are going to both look like top 15 talent. Passing on Penix and giving him to a team like Denver the raiders and then drafting a guy like Spencer rattler or Jordan Travis would have been a huge mistake. Maybe you get a Shadeur Sanders next draft or a Jalen Milroe. It's all a much bigger gamble because if Penix played at Colorado they probably won a hell of a lot more games same thing with Alabama. If he played at Alabama last year they win the national title and we're not having this conversation we're talking about who's better Caleb Williams or Michael Penix. So just cuz he picked the team like Washington doesn't really make a big difference. The falcons saw his his generational talent and felt it would be stupid to risk the chance of letting someone else pick in front of them. I'm actually shocked more teams didn't trade up to try to get him. The teams that picked quarterbacks are going to be scratching their heads to why they didn't realize he was going to be this good.

Cousins will win enough games that you won't cut him in two years, which makes this pick terrible. If for the next two season Cousins throws for 4,440 yards and 30 TD Penix won't play until he is 28 with a year left on his rookie deal. That means we paid him top 10 money for nothing for four years. By that time, Pitts, London, and Bijan will all have big deals. This roster will never have the opportunity to build around Penix. What it is going to be is Tampa Bay with Jamis.

@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 11-6...13-4. I don't think it would matter much. I just saw Tampa be a few mistakes from playing in the Super Bowl. Coaching should make this defense more than viable enough to win the division. Get another safety before mid-season and I'll agree that 13-4 could be possible.

@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 16 күн бұрын
@@iamsupa8239 13-4 means we are better, gives us a chance at home field in the playoffs, and makes us good enough to compete with KC. Arthur Smith was a bad coach, but his slow ball control offense hid how bad this defense really is. We were last place in pass rush win rate and turnovers. We don't have the players to have a good defense. Plus we don't have the weapons that Minnesota had when Kirk was putting up those numbers. We needed that 8th pick to be an impact player.
