My husband Al and I went for a quick afternoon metal detecting session in the historic Victorian goldfields, hoping to find a few more prospecting relics in a place we'd recently searched! I was pleasantly shocked to find my oldest silver coin to date, minted over 200 years ago, as well as some other interesting treasures. I'm using the Nokta Legend equipped with the 6" coil in this adventure.

Oh they've gone now? Excellent. I loved looking at them, but navigating our way around was getting difficult at one stage, they were everywhere!! I've had past runs when the Orb spiders have been out in force as well. 😂 I'm hoping to make my way back over before Winter really sets in, get a few more hunts in with ol' mate CBK. Cheers Pete :)

Great silver Mish! I love constructing imaginative stories in my head about 'how did that get there'! Military buttons have a habit of turning up on goldfields, probably from someone wearing their old jacket or a relatives jacket. Reusing clothing items was a lot more common back then. Here in America Civil War buttons and buckles often turn up in the gold rush areas.

@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
It’s a little hard to convert as the two currencies weren’t exactly equivalent nor was the economy, but it was one of the smaller denominations - if a shilling was assumed to be $1 then a sixpence was the equivalent of 50¢, as a shilling was 12 pennies (pence). The only calculator I could find went back as far as 1901, which valued our sixpence at an equivalent value of $4.31 in 2022. A Florin by comparison is two shillings. Cheers John!

Hello Mish, so I took the plunge and got the new Legend and what a difference from my 20yr. old Tesoro, much lighter and loads of features. I'm curious when using the preset modes while detecting do you have to ground balance or does the detector always do this for you? Cheers
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
Love it! There is an automatic ground balance feature available on the Legend, I can't remember which modes have it on/off by default. If you find the ground starts getting particularly chattery from one section to the next you could always do a quick manual balance here and there, I mainly find I have to do this if my beach has distinct sections of black sand vs. 'clean' sand. Cheers :)

@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
That’s a big question to answer! Pros and cons to all machines, I find the XP Deus II the most comfortable to swing for long periods and also underwater. The Legend has been performing well for me in open areas and on silver, and is a much easier learning curve than the Deus II. I really enjoyed the Minelab Excalibur II while I had one, however it was too heavy for me for consistent use. Enjoyed my time with the Equinox as well. So really… work out what you’re detecting for, make sure the machines and coils you’re considering are suitable for that terrain (or dive depth / waterproof rating), and watch/listen to videos of people using the machines you’re considering to make sure they sound like something you’d be comfortable listening to for hours at a time - it’s a more important factor than many people realise as it can make or break your detecting experience! Budget is also a factor. Happy adventuring 😁

Hello Again Mish. I went looking for the Nokta legend pro-pack and found them in short supply right now. So in looking at others I came across another the Minelab Vanquish 540 pro-pack. I'm curious to know your thoughts or any of the others out there on how it stacks up against the new Legend? Have you used it or had someone along detecting with you that used one? they seem very similar on paper but I'm hoping for some advice on those who have used both. Thanks Mark
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
I had the base model, 340, ever so briefly when I won one in a raffle lol.. passed it on to a family member. They share their target ID range with the original generation of the Equinoxes. Vanquish are a good machine for their price and will definitely find you some goodies but my biggest gripe would be that the control box is not waterproof (however the coil is). I think the 540 comes with a fabric rain cover for the pod. So I guess it depends on how often you may get caught in the rain or need to prop it down in wet grass etc. Cheers!

Good morning mish looking for A little more information on the legend period can you tell me what you think about the new edition with the 12 by 9 coil And carbon rod? Do you feel it is a better set up than the previous previous model? Also do you have suggestions for settings to search beaches And also parks? I am looking to purchase one of these units and have the option to get either Period never having fifteen alleged looking for some shortcuts to get the best search settings. Thanks for your advice love your videos
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
G’day Mark, I would 100% pick the new Legend configuration over the old, primarily for the coil. It feels so much smoother to operate and I’ve found the pinpointing ability of the 12x9” surprisingly good! And I promise this is not sarcasm, but… for beaches pick beach mode, parks in park mode. Far too many folks overthink this step. All our conditions and swing styles/speeds are different, so the optimum settings are as individual as the detectorists themselves, better to learn the ‘why’ of a setting than program in something that works for one specific user. The preset modes are pretty good as-is. 😊 I will say however that I mostly use multi-wet beach mode on the beach as it is much more stable on my particular beaches, even after various balancing adjustments have been tried. Happy hunting 😁
