Absolutely crazy vining roads in lake district, I would say extreme lovers welcome! Hardknot and Wrynose pass spoils with stunning views and breath taking twists .
Wrynose Pass is a mountain pass between the Duddon Valley and Little Langdale. There is a single-track motor road over the pass, which is one of the steepest roads in England, with gradients up to 1 in 3. The road continues over Hardknott Pass and on into Eskdale. At the top of the Wrynose Pass is the Three Shire Stone, marking the meeting point of the historic counties of Cumberland, Lancashire and Westmorland.

Absolutely nothing wrong with being nervous & scared on these two passes. I've driven & ridden these two in the car & on my motorcycle many times. I still get a little apprehensive before getting to the start even though I now know what to expect. Love the fact that you did the passes & enjoyed pushed your boundaries, well done

Was there yesterday, drove to the top Hardknott and walked down, something about it that makes you imagine some Croatian (Roman) Legionnaires just walking out of the mist. Walked back to the car and carried on over wrynose to Grasmere, Keswick ant home I agree the fort has to be seen @Mediobogdum Im lucky I live quite near

Love the "Hardknott face" at 1.29.Its exactly how I must have looked when I first crossed that pass 40 years ago in a van with dodgy brakes that had already faded in the Yorkshire Dales.

The first time I drove over Hardknott Pass, coming from Wrynose Bottom, half way up the car conked out. It had a habit of doing that. We sat there for 10 minutes or so (hoping nobody would bump into us in the mist) and then the car restarted and off we went. Happy days.

Living near Ambleside the passes used to be my summer commute to work on my motorcycle when I was teaching on the west coast. Well done Sasha because you drove the passes a lot better than many experienced car drivers I've had the misfortune to meet on them.

I bet you saw some crazy things on those passes. Has anyone managed to tow a trailer over the Hardknott? Do farmers manage to tow livestock trailers over there for example?
@tonybmw5785
@tonybmw5785 Жыл бұрын
@@fenby1976I've never seen a livestock trailer on the passes but it would not surprise me to find that someone has taken one over. The main craziness you see is unsuitable vehicles trying to go over them. Normally I just pull over and enjoy the street theater until they give up and head down the Duddon Valley. Every now during the summer you'll get idiots in lycra having a spectacular prang because they think it's cool to overtake a 'biker' on the descents. (I don't have much time for the lycra-clad two-wheel vermin so usually laugh my arse off at their road rash as I putter past commenting, "That's why we wear leathers!")
@fenby1976
@fenby1976 Жыл бұрын
I'm sire it's marvelous entertainment! So you do you think it's possible that a 4x4 could tow a trailer over those two passes? Would they make it around the hairpins?
@tonybmw5785
@tonybmw5785 Жыл бұрын
@@fenby1976 Can't see why not because I've seen livestock trailers on the Blea Tarn road and the hairpin on that is as tight as the ones on Hardknott.

Cool video! The filming with the drone was a great touch. I heard about Hardknott Pass ages ago, but had never seen it. It looks pretty terrifying! Those hills are very steep. The 4x speed makes it looks even scarier!

The only good thing about these twisty roads with steep gradients is that you usually have good visibility re approaching traffic. My absolute worst fear is enclosed single track country roads, mainly because you get either idiots behind you pushing you to speed up, or idiots coming towards you taking bends far too quickly.

Great video of a beautiful area but it really bothers me that she was ‘really scared’ on a sound road 🤣… seriously, there are no roads in this country that are that dangerous otherwise you wouldn’t be able to drive on them with British health & safety 😂.. try the Pasubio or Stelvio pass in Italy 👍🏼 now their dangerous 😂

On a road like this I imagine it isn't fun if you get caught unprepared. I knew about it beforehand and managed it fine in a small car with only 60 horsepower on a pissing wet day. I just kept it in first gear during any and all of the uphill sections and kept momentum. I've seen videos of people getting stopped on the uphill bends and it's so steep the car has no traction and just spins the wheels. I imagine several clutches have been lost on this road...

Exactly what happened to us a couple days ago, we had no IDEA the road would be so difficult. 30 degree incline roads on a turn in the pouring rain and fog. Car lost all momentum going up and we stopped with the handbrake on, tried to get moving in first gear and the tires just kept spinning and then there was a god awful smell coming from the engine but we made it eventually.
