I still love my TCL 65 825 mini led set, looks great and hasn't broke yet. It's partially why I bought the Sony Z9K when I inherited some money so I could afford to buy it easily. I still follow TCL and I had a Hisense too but the TCL was a way better looking and built TV in my opinion, but it was their uber top of the line technology demo in 2019.

This video was awesome and right on point. TCL and Hisense need to do a firmware update on their Mini QLED 2023 models for better upscale and motion when you're watching regular cable channels. But I have the 85 inch QM8 and when you adjust it right the picture quality is awesome on 4K and HDR 10 Plus movies. The black levels are spot on with OLED.

No sir, 85 is too big for lowbitrate cable, they can't perform miracles. 4k is 40mbps-80mbps vs 3-6mbps on some cable+720 vs 4k resolution.

No firmware update coming to fix that problem because firmware can’t fix inherent hardware limitations. That’s why those huge TVs are less expensive than the smaller, but higher picture quality sets. It has to be a trade off AT THAT PRICE POINT.

@brianstechtherapy that's my problem with oleds is the size and brightness vs price. if you want both, you will probably be paying an insane price (G4 83" launch price might be laughably high and it might be a while before 3rd or 4th gen QD OLED is introduced for 80+" screens and probably also at a high price that most people don't want to spend on a tv). And then if you pay say $6k for a flagship with newest tech, it's a crapshoot on how many hours the OLED will last before significant brightness loss (which is why you paid the premium in the first place). Size and price for non-OLED is a much different ratio. If Sony or other brands come out with mini LED panels in the next few years that can both combine high local dimming zones and better processing/dimming algorithms, they will jump ahead of OLED as "ideal panel".

When it has to display display dark scenes you can't notice it at all. But it really has me befuddled why it started doing this. Because of this I'm already looking to replace it with a 2023 SONY XR X90L

Value begins with one's perceived needs being met; a TV that fails to meet one's needs has zero value to that person, regardless of price. For some people, that perception of need is heavily inflated. They tend to buy a "brand name" latest-tech TV that's way more than they need but will seem very impressive when their buddies come over for the game. Conversely, I like my 43" Hisense A6 as a PC monitor, and I like my 65" TCL 5-series for video content. Both offer superior value in that they meet my realistic, conservative needs for not a lot of money. I'm currently researching a TV for my living room / kitchen/ entertaining area, not as the main focus but as a secondary item of interest. No cable, satellite, or antenna. Just Internet. I'm finding 55-65" units from TCL and Hisense that can meet that need for under $400.

Starting at 3,000 canadian dollars for 98 inch and working down for the other sizes. TCL S550G 98 inch here is $4,000 here. TCL just needs to put 120 refresh rate on all there entry level tv. They both around 50 60 years . I heard they USED to produce SONY LG Samsung panels for them in Asia long ago. The North American ones. Hisense Used to produce are Roku same with TCL. They are SElling thoes ROKU Tv. If u ever watch Ellen De generous SHOW, they always gave away ROKU tv lol. Thoes are like VW Jetta type of level (price/build/quality). So finally last 3-4 years. They came IN with the BIG BOYS , with their very premium GOOGLE PANEL. So a LOT of ppl only seen the CHEAP ones. Are JUDGING their high end TVs. Like how Lexus , AUDI, Infiniti cars came to USA initially ppl HAD NO idea what they are…they ONLY have Memory of Toyota, VW, Nisan. So there is a LOT of mis info about the Realibilty /built, price / tier. Hope this helps u. I was 1 of them thought they were Cheap. I had to talk to my ASian FAmily before buying it. They are like:”they are NOT cheap. I wanted to buy Hisense, but they were Pricer than the Samsung Curve tv. So I end up buying samsung. Why is it cheaper in North America?” I had to do more research n found out ONLY the Hisnse, TCL are CHEAP in USA. Because their premium TVs are NEW in town . They are selling with big discounts. So ppl mistake them as the low end ROKUs. I took a Dive couple of yrs ago when my $4000 tv died. Never looking back. 😊

For sure in the more "budget" area. Maybe even in premium. But they are not as good as big 3 in motion and processing etc. When or if that happens then they will finally be even with them. That said, they will definitely take over in sales. That has already happened across the world and likely in NA and Europe as well. Because they offer something special for much cheaper price. That is where their magic lays right now. For me it's Sony and the new backlight this year. That is my pick unless something disastrous happen. I rather pay extra to get everything at it's best.

The problem with TCL and hisense is , will they stand behind their product if I pay over $2,000. We they replace or fix the tv. Will I get updates on my tv. Or am I buying as is? I own a sony high-end TV, it went side ways on me after 8 months and I called it in to sony and they replace it at no cost to me. I've owned TCL and hisense, they feel cheap and limited warranty doesn't inspire faith. You need to talk more about that than just picture quality. But still enjoyed conversation.

I bought one of the first Hisense 4k sets to hit the US market. It had issues but was only 550 for a 55H8C hdr set so I was OK with it as my first 4k sef for cheap. It also had a 4 year warranty to break into the US market. 3 years in the panel just died, they tried to fix it and ended up giving me a new 55 set of their latest version at the time. By then I decided to upgrade to a TCL 65 825 mini led set and that was in February 2020 for a great price. I still have it, still working and looking great, so much better than the Hisense but it was their top end set compared to a entry level Hisense. So I can't say on the warranty treatment from TCL but it still works and seems better built than the Hisense.

@@69Dartman that good to hear, you don't know how good customer service is until you need it. If I was buying a tv under $500, I would look at both of them and compare with low end sony. But if spending money, I stick with certain brands like Sony. Also, when I buy other brand tvs, I'm lucky to get one update. With that high end sony, I got 3 in one year. THEY r ONLLY “budget in USA”. Their U8K 65” are all $1450-1600, that just 65”. In Canada, UK, AUS, Germany etc….. in USA, u guy pay 65” price for 75” TV, u pay 75” price for 85” tV. U guys get INSANE Deal NO one else get. They are “in between SONY X90L, n SONY X93L” price OUTSIDE of USA (more align or close to sony X93L price),They are NOT Budget TV. 😊

I hope TCL takes it. I have an old TCL that’s lcd but just keeps going. I got the U8H for my living room and the reliability has been garbage. Died in 11 months. Send faulty parts for repair. Got the runaround and lied to by customer service multiple times. Took BBB complaint and hounding to get them to fix the same broken tv which still is not acting 100% right.
