Beautiful rifles I’ve a couple of these so called never fired Enfields, the fact is they are test fired at the factory so unfired is a little bit of a porky. Also it’s serial number makes it an Irish Contract Rifle, they are the best.

I'd be wearing eye protection, especially with unfired old Enfield with unknown quality. Great video, I had one of these 25 years ago, good shooter, expensive ammo after the surplus ammo dried up.

Correction, that is the Lee Enfield No.4 Mk 1. The mk.2 has only the rear aperture sight set for 300 and 600 meters. The mk.1 has the adjustable sight.

No. My No4Mk2 POF (1959Prod) has the adjustable ladder sight as shown here. The grove diameter is .308 as well. There were late war production No4’s. That had the two position sights. My two No4 Mk1* (Savage 1943 Prod) both had ladder sights. As well.

That's a No. 4 Mk. 2, manufactured in Nov 1954 at ROF Fazakerley. They all have flip-up aperture/ladder sights. The Mk. 1 started out with the same type of sight but later on that was changed to the two-position aperture sight you're referring to, to reduce costs/complexity. That one was known as the "mk. 2 sight". I'm guessing that's where the confusion may lie. You can also tell this is a mk. 2 by the hole in the stock above the trigger. On the mk. 1, that's a notch and you can see part of the receiver underneath it.

Wonderful rifle. Looks beautiful. I have a No.4 MkII that was built in 1950 that fired all the rounds that one didn't. Still shoots great.

Unrelated yet related story 😂... Last year, my fam and I moved into a 53yo house, 4500 Sq ft, with three beautiful brick fireplaces (you get a lot more bang for your buck in southwest VA than, say, Northern VA) When Winter hit, I realized that the dampers were sealed with silicone. When I got those open, I realized that there'd never been a single fire built in any of the fireplaces in their entire existence. They were clean as a whistle, and the liners were pristine, so I fired it right up.

Probably the best made of all the No. 4s: the late production run at ROF Fazakerley, before they wound everything down and shipped all the tooling to Pakistan. Great rifle; wish I had one!

I have one of these. But at some point in it’s history someone thought it was a good idea to sandpaper off all of the metal finish which left all of the markings barely visible in certain lighting.

Something about the Lee Enfield I just dont like . They are great rifles , but just something off about them , they just seem cluttered and cobbled together , like some guy put together a bunch of miss matched , random parts to make a firearm , using too many parts . Prefer the clean rifles like the Mosin , Mauser , or American bolts . Clean and simple .
