You got the cheaper model. Aliexpress is notorious for showing a picture of the highest price model along with the price of the cheapest one. You have to select which specific model you want by clicking "color." Yes, sounds ridiculous but "color" is what they use to refer to different models within a single ad. That's also not auto-ranging which is a pain in the ass. Good luck to you.
@gregjones3660

Then by that convention he should’ve gotten the most expensive one by default. But even if you select color that would then show a different model with different specifications. Naturally if you select a different color and there was the same picture and different specifications then you wouldn’t buy from that vendor unless you want to go through the hell of communicating with them where the ad is faulty… noooo way…

From the listing at 08:31 it says it is for UT8802E/UT8803E/UT8804E/UT8805E so on this listing it would have options called 'Color' and as you click each one you get a different price. Sometimes the picture changes as you select each price but if it doesn't then the model name/number next to where it says color always changes It is quite clear from your order screen shot that you ordered UT8802E and that is exactly what you received. I used to build and sell desktop computers back in the 90s and quite often they would arrive at the customers badly damaged (broken PCBs, boards / connectors loose. It wasn't because I had bad quality control, bad packaging or didn't mark the box fragile, it's because delivery drivers go round corners at high velocity with boxes in the back of the van slamming around from side to side. You are getting ripped off by the way but not in the way you say, if I order that from AliExpress I automatically get a deduction of the VAT (21% IVA in Spain) so would pay €93.30. You are being ripped off for 20% every time you buy something with your own money you earned and paid tax on already.

@@MaxC_1 It's the correct model. Sorin chose the cheapest model in the page. The one he wanted, and was "in the picture", was the most expensive model option on the page. You have to select the correct model. They put many (often 4-10) options on the one buy page. However it is very scummy to have all these models (really of separate classes of product quality) all in the one page and make the buyer notice they have to select exactly the correct option. If the buyer leaves the cheapest default option selected (for the most attractive price), they get the cheapest default model, which isn't the first picture.

Nothing wrong with AliExpress - as long as you're aware of the simple tactic that sellers use. The main thumbnail picture does not alwayts reflect the default product that is selected. They do this so that a cheaper price shows next to the photo of the expensive device. The item that was bought and paid for would have been what was selected by default. If you change to the SKU that matches the thumbnail picture, the price will be more expensive.

I have the same line of meter from Aliexpress but a model UT8803E. It too had a similar issue with the transformer mount where the nuts loosened and obviously did not have lock washers and were not tight enough. The item appears to have some rough shipping, and I've seen power transformers come lose in the cases. The uni-t meter like this has the logic board behind the front display (I was a bit surprised too when I opened mine). For the money these aren't bad really.

I've also had this issue on linear power supplies coming from China... as mentioned earlier, I think they get banged around in their shipping boxes.

I feel the same... a lot of things that I buy I have first to work on them to improve them, this waste a lot of time for small staffs that in the end does not bring too much value, just improve quality of product, example changing by making new leads for a welder, or change panel conectors and inner aluminium bussbars to copper ones, add better air guide for cooling... and this happens to a lot of products, par example changing wheel casters for mobile toolbox that are plastic instead of rubber, and the mounting is not universal, so extra work on that.... and this cycle repeats for a lot of product... alternative spend more money, maybe money that we can not afford...

Hey Sorin, we took the same boat! I had to recently replace all my test equipment after leaving my job (RF Service Tech) of 15 years... I tried E-Bay and Aliexpress and found nothing but rip-offs, junk and covid related excuses regarding quality and availability. I spent a fortune sending back defective and incorrect items, it seems that the chinese suppliers understand what quality is, but just don't provide it. I have to say that I had to try Siglent and few others as a reasonable alternative to what I was used to, even UNI-T.. But being a spoiled tech, brands like R&S, Fluke, Aeroflex, Anritsu and Agilent are common place. I finally had to settle with the Siglent brand ultimately, and I am happy with what I have now to do the work I have. Siglent in not a cheap brand, but have a ridiculous rendition of the feature upgrades that higher end equipment manufacturers have. Say you bought a Siglent 300Mhz 4ch Scope and find out that the next guy paid less than half of that for the same scope less a sticker! I get it, you can get your product out there at a cheaper price point and allow "feature upgrades" later via purchased entitlement codes. Siglent is a bit overboard in this regard.. say you want a 16ch MSO option, you pay for the hardware and an activation code that is half the price of the hardware or more, separately. Why not include the activation in the price of the hardware? UNI-T was an ok brand 10 years ago, but not so anymore.. they have the features and look good.. but how much cheaper can "cheap" get before you're just buying flashy junk? My bench DMM is a Fluke 8846A and a 8808 before it.. this is your left arm as a bench tech, there are no substitutions for sheer repeatable accuracy and a good set of probes!

Things can come loose in shipping, especially international shipping. It's likely that the transformer was not loose when it was packed. That sure is a big box for what is inside it. They could have made the thing half the depth. That thing is probably essentially a handheld meter, but in a bigger box with a bigger display. Then, when I'd financially recovered from the £100 the SSD Cost me, (around 3 months).. So I ordered the adapter £25 and it arrived and I waited until i was well enough and i'd got a few hours spare to fit it all together and attempted to begin the job again.. Still Nothing and both items where well past their 1 month return date.. Unsure which part was failing I naturally presumed it was the SSD as that hadn't worked as I expected it to on my first attempt some months previous.. So I saved for another 3 months at which time I ordered another £100 SSD 1TB. Fitted that to the USB Adapter and.. Nothing but this time I noticed the adapter was extremely hot.. Gave up for a while then re attempted to Ghost my O.S over using the original method i'd tried previously. This was a click and hope task of cloning of my 250GB SSD Contents over to a Blank SATA drive then removal of my 250GB SSD then swap to the first 1TB SSD then messing around with the new encryption crappy bios settings my board has then a few desperate clicks of buttons in the controls of the ghosting software ALL Marked with worrying sounding "Security" and "Encryption" and "Operating system key" and "store repository encryption key backup location" YOU Know the buttons you avoid pressing, especially when you bought a prebuilt PC From a shop all preloaded etc etc.. and no documentation. I was looking for a thermal camera on Amazon. Uni-T has an official store, but the reviews on their cameras we're not flattering, the most frequent being lack of customer service. The prices compared to FLIR products and were about the same no big cost savings.

Glue a 5lb lead weight onto that open space to keep the meter from moving around on the bench. A SCUBA dive belt weight will work.

The lowest price is not always the best price. Be very careful when reading the Aliexpress ad, make your selection then read the ad again. This meter wasn't assembled properly, traveling in the postal systems has caused the fasteners holding the transformer to come lose.

Did you considered that the bolt could have fall during the transport? Definetly they should be advised and learn from this in order to prevent this to happen in the future. I had a similar experience when I bought a 900$ device and the shipment was 120$. This somehow works for them send it to you faster BUT to refrain you from sending it back. Unfortunately like in your case the device was not working properly, couldn't see anything on the screen but was doing certain operations. I ask them for an RMA and they were suggesting it to take it to a repair shop firstly. I told them that it will be costly. Then they asked if I know someone with electronic skills. I told them that I can have a look into but I dont know how to open it as it is a very well designed case with a slick look. They sent me some instructions and were also offering 80$ if I can figure out the issue. There was only a ribbon connector for the display that went out. So they learned the lesson and I also got some "discount". Yet the worst experience was on Amazon. I got a power supply with a bolt floating inside the case, similar like your situation. I didn't want it to power it because that could have shorten the circuit. So I open it and found the bolt actually didn't fell during the transport but because the thread was stripped. I took pictures and sent it to the seller asking him if he has a QC system in place to prevent this to happen? I told him that this is totally unsafe for a user if the bolt gets in a wrong spot. Also asked him to review my comments with his team and have corrective actions. But the only thing that this lead to was actually banning me from future reviews on Amazon. He lied and complained to Amazon. And such, Aliexpress became my only supplier.

Lot of Chinese made stuff has half screws loose inside from shipping...they don't use lock washers or thread lock. Could still be a really good meter, even being hollow... everything is software on a single device anymore.

Stupid expensive shipping cost like that would be a HARD PASS for me, aside any doubt over quality of the item. The mounting screws for power supply transformer probably came lose by; Not fully tightened, or No anti vibration device, like a spring or star washer or locktite, and being subjected to vibration during transit, especially when transported on a freight ship over a long time/distance. I suggest mount that weighty trans on the base plate and not side wall that has bent inward.

Hi! If you notice the model in your purchase, UT8802E is exactly the model you received. But, this is misleading information, the model in the photo is UT8805E, unless the page where you ordered had several models to choose, they are tricking you. You can open a Aliexpress case and ask for refund. They will refund you if not total, partially or you'll be able to return the item. In any way, it's a bummer! Hope you solve this out. Good luck!

the one you wanted was the 05, the one you probable selected and bought was the 02. If you look for other sellers who sell the 05 model you will see that those are close to $900 or more. You get what you pay for. Also, the picture of the 05 shows the 05 in the advertisement, in your video you clearly show that you ordered the 02E version.

You shouldn't underestimate the effect of vibration on that transformer during a global shipment. It's very possible that the combination of the transformer being the most heavy single component and it hanging freely (counterlever) from the side losened the nuts and made them come off completely Obviously the transformer falling around the box then unplgged the connector. The vendor should have uses either a counter nut or screw locking paint. And you should do it now, if you keep this thing around. Regarding the price: Many, and especially the cheaper chinese electronic products stil lare about twice as expensive (In some cases even still 5 times or more!) as they usually are (and where) before the all the global crises since Covid, lack of resources and so on). So when you buy a 200$ device, you will get a 50$ crap ..
