I was really hoping this would show me how to create my own favorite list and add channels to a favorite list. Not sure why people feel the need to overcomplicate everything and start a video by saying 'so here's my list I've already created, so there you go!' Wtf.

Thanks Jeffery for the kind words. Let's check the settings. Go into the menu>set scan selection. Go to manage quick key status>favorites quick key and make sure your favorites are ON. Next, back out of that screen and find "select lists to monitor" and make sure your favorites are turned ON and the Full Database is off. See if that will let you scan only your favorites without the database.

You have now parted the seas. Followed your steps in last comment and now it works.

Hi Tracy. Yes, Escambia and Pensacola used encryption, but we can still monitor Fire and EMS. Same with Santa Rosa. Okaloosa Sheriff, Fire, and EMS can still be monitored.

@@Hamlocks I would purchase the Pro Voice option so you can monitor Okaloosa County EMS and Fire. Both departments used that system.

Create a favorite using the database and remove the channels you do not want. Or you may simply lock out the channels you do not want to monitor

Yes, just hold on that one frequency and it will just record it. But, from the beginning, it does record a few transmissions from your most recent scanning for some reason.

Baldwin Co Sheriff is encrypted, but everyone else isn't. All the local police and fire departments in southern Alabama can be monitored. The Escambia County, FL Sheriff's department is also encrypted, but there frequency 460.150 Records Check isn't. Most agencies around here can currently be monitored.

Yes, you can program what you would like to monitor manually, you do not need the database.

Sounds like you will need to program those systems into your favorites only list without using the database. It would actually take me too long to try and explain it here. I wish I could be more helpful.

You have the option in the menu settings to turn on or off zip code scanning.

On P25 Phase 1 the BCD436HP does skip over it, but does not on P25 Phase 2.

Hello Hendrikus, No, this scanner will not decode encrypted transmissions. It does receive both APCO 25 Phase 1 and 2 non-encrypted frequencies.

Hello Steve. I would set the range at 50 (maximum number) and enter your local zip code. Afterwards, take a look at the counties the scanner loaded. If something is missing, you can always add them. I would create a favorite list and then add all the counties you want to that list. You can do that by entering the counties zip code. Once the system shows, then just add it to your favorite.

B Williams Just program it as a conventional channel and the scanner will decode it. 171.9875 is Federal not a state frequency.

Also when I go back to look at the favorites list. They are not there but still show up when scanning the favorites list.

Scott, I have never deleted some channels without using the software so I don't know how the scanner handles that.

I'm also a Mac guy, but you will need a PC to run the software. I haven't had much luck running parallels with it.

K4DPS I am a Mac Guy as well..what I wound up doing is instead of running Parallels, I have a designated partition on my laptop running windows (easy to boot into at start up holding the option key) and all the software runs smooth as silk.

Hello Austin. Yes, the Uniden BCD436HP scanner receives analog transmissions. The video is the scanner listening to conventional analog transmissions. I like both the BCD396XT and the BCD436HP. I like the size of the BCD396XT and I like the display screen and record feature of the BCD436HP. I don't really prefer one over the other.

One other thing, Are there any technology difference between one over there other? Does one have a more of a advantage over the other? I noticed the BCD436HP has a Phase2. Thanks a bunch.

***** Yes, the BCD436HP has the P25 phase 2 receive capability, along with a built-in nationwide database and record features. If I was going to purchase another hand held scanner, I would buy the BCD436HP. It is a good scanner with many features I enjoy using.

Hello Jason. Yes, you may create a favorite list and then manually program trunked ID's and names into it. If you would like to delete a certain talk group ID, there is a red X towards the top in the Sentinel software. If you would like to just avoid a certain talk group ID, then right mouse click the talk group ID and click "avoid". The easiest way to program these scanners is by using the software.

K4DPS Thank you very much for the quick response and information. I am not good with programming by computer, but am learning. Right now I am just trying to get started by manually programming systems. I am confused as to the difference between a system and a site. This is where my comment gets a bit lengthy. With my old BC-346, I would create a system, if that is the correct terminology, and name it, for example Kansas city Mo Fire/EMS. Then i would enter all the frequencies in order since it was EDACS then, and then once I was in search/scan mode, I could make note of the active ID's and name them. I would then create groups. Group 1 would be for fire channels, and group 2 would be for Police. Hope you followed me on that one. So my quick key I guess would be 1 for example to scan the whole system and my groups would have numbers as well. Holding down the function tab and pressing the group I would not want to listen to would be what i would do for that. If this sounds familure to you, please let me know if this scanner can do that. I do realize I have to be in the right system first, either conventional or digital, trunked, etc. Than k you again for all our time and responses. Cheers.

Jason T A system would be the Kansas City Police Department. A site is the frequencies that are used for the system. With the new Unidens they have changed the terminology. You would create a favorite and name it, for example, Kansas City Public Safety. Next you would add the System and sites, for example name the system "Kansas City, Police". And add the Site name of "Jackson". Enter the frequencies of 851.050, 851.325, 851.600, 851.8625 to the Site. Within the System of Kansas City Police you can add talk groups 33050, 33051, etc. and place the scanner in ID Scan mode. The scanner will only scan the talk groups you enter. Or you can set the scanner to do a ID search so it will show all found talk groups in the system. You can add as many systems as you would like and turn each system on and off just like the old Bank Scanners.

K4DPS Thank you again Sir. This sort of makes sense. Are you saying that you still have to add all frequencies associated with the system you want to listen to before you can start programming ID numbers and then going back and naming them?. Once I have entered my zip code, i automatically pick up what is around my area and even farther out than that, as we both know. My question is, if I make that sysyem a favorites list, can i just manually program the ID numbers and then naming them and assigning them to groups?. I realize I have taken up some time with these questions, and do than k you again for your assistance and expertise.

Jason T Yes, if you make a favorite list with that system, you can manually program the ID numbers, assign them to groups and name them. You will need to use the software to make things easier for you.

Yes, you can scan multiple favorites scanning at the same time. I currently have 35 favorites and they all can be scanned at the same time.

Hi there k4dps thank you for your reply,that is good for me to know because I wasn't sure on that, also the state patrol in my area is p25 phase 1 does the bcd436hp receive phase 1 clearier then the grecom? With my Grecom it isn't bad it is mostly clear but I'm superised with the reception being kind of poor for p25 phase 1..other frequencies r fine it is mainly the p25 phase 1..

And One I really can't say if the BCD436HP will receive the state patrol system any better than the GRE. It depends on the P25 system itself. If it is a simulcast system, any scanner could have a difficult time receiving it because of multiple transmitters on the receive frequency. The scanners receiver gets overloaded and you will hear poor reception. The best thing to do is use a different antenna and/or try moving your scanner around the house to find a 'sweet spot' for receiving. Some folks have even used a paperclip to help receive simulcast systems.

Yes Doug, it is a digital scanner that is capable of receiving P25 Phase 1 and 2 transmissions.

In the menu settings, go to lists to scan and turn off the full database scan list.
