I know a local guy that uses one of these for several years now, so I decided to take the plunge to pick up a used unit but in very good condition + it comes with the following accessories: 1) wideband BNC antenna 2) mounting bracket 3) bracket knobs 4) serial programming cable 5) wall outlet power cable 6) vehicle outlet power cable 7) vehicle direct wire power cable 8) vehicle DIN mounting sleeve and sleeve release keys My question is, for the GPS unit to work, do I need some specific GPS device or can I just hook up my Garmin direct to this unit via USB? Also, any suggest for speakers when this is used as a base station?

QUESTION to ask , I use to own the Uniden BCD436HP Handheld unit, its was Great, No I'm thinking about purchasing the BCD 996 XT , Is there any advantages or disadvantages going with this base unit other than it being a base in it. Does it have all the features to do everything the handheld wood.

Can you direct me to the correct programming cable for the BCD996XT ??? A buddy of mine that has the same scanner used to help me out but he has since moved on and in need to change a few things. Appreciate your time and great job on videos. Two thumbs up!!

I picked up a Rare BC-RH96 Uniden Control Head for the Bearcat Scanners like this model...BUT it does not work without a modified box for the new BCD996P2 - but what I am listening to is Phase 1 P25 - So I would think this model (BCD996xt) would do fine as I know it is compatible with the control head. Is this still a good mobile unit for Phase 1? I like the control head idea...but wonder if I should construct this box just to be compatible with the BC996P2. Thoughts?

Hello Kristin and welcome to the channel. Congratulations, you got a great deal on the BCD996XT. Yes, you can program it using the Freescan software and a premium subscription to RadioReference.com. You will need to connect the supplied DB9 / mini USB cable to a computer that has internet access. The mini USB plugs into the front of the scanner and the DB9 goes to the computer. You might need an adaptor to take the DB9 connector to a regular USB connector, as most newer computers do not have a serial port. Friend, I'm having trouble that happened "out of the blue" on my Uniden BCD996XT scanner. He stopped receiving, he's 'deaf'. I did a test with another radio receiver that I have and I put both on the same frequency, however my Uniden scanner does not receive, and already in my other receiving radio I receive. And this happened out of nowhere. Once I turned the radio on and his display "blinked," and turned the radio on and off. After a few minutes I called again and the radio did not call anymore. After a few hours I was able to turn on the radio but it did not receive any more frequencies. He is deaf, receives nothing. What can it be? Thanks a lot for the help, :)

Thanks for the helpful overview on this model radio. I'm confused on the Quick Key functions...I saw there are Quick Keys 0-9 and then Quick Keys for the groups 0 - 99. Doesn't hitting the Quick Key confuse the two? Pls help me to understand how this works and why it needs two sets of Quick Keys. Thx!

Any idea if this radio picks up Walton County Sheriff and fire/EMS on the new SLERS? Troopers and state agencies use SLERS along with WCSO. I am looking to get the radio, but, been out of the scanner world for about 10 years.

Hi, what does the provided programming cable look like? My PC doesn't have a serial port so will I need a Mini USB (scanner end) to USB (PC end) cable? I have had no experience at all in this and I wanted to learn and explore more. :)

I was selecting my groups to scan and I accidently locked out the last group- I was hoping to only keep one group to listen to and they all disappeared!! Now my scanned says it has nothing to scan- how can I get my groups back? I hope I can do it without have to plug the scanner back into my computer because I mounted it my car once I programmed it. Thanks for your help.

Hello K4DPS, this is Nelson CE3LLP I have done lots of scanners reviews. Indeed i have an old BC796D scanner, that still working fine. Here police is P25, trunking and encrypted mode, so there is no way to listen them. So far there are some very interesting conventional Mototurbo coms that i will like to listen to. My question is if this scanner (BCD 996XT is capable to get conventional P25, mototurbo? In advance many thanks and best 73´S from CE3LLP

So is the extra money really worth it for the 16,000 more channels? Is this more options for high and low band frequencies that the radio can tune to?

Why is it impossible to get someone to just show how to enter a channel and mode and just use it as a simple monitor? It has more bells and whistles than a good humor truck and a manual which has hot links to link to more topics which are linked. Very frustrating

Hey, Thanks for the Video, I've read your comments below. Very helpful, I know how to Lock an "SO:" number, which seems to lock out entire systems. But how do you Lock out an individual "GRP" number? within a "SO"?

Does this scanner work with apco p25 phase 1 or phase 2 does any one know

The learning curve required to program the scanner is EXTREMELY PROHIBITIVE and only an experienced tech has the savvy to do it correctly which makes this radio a waste of equipment for 99% of the people who purchase it.
