my work as EE, Embedded and wireless engineer meshes with making smart terminal emulator tools to be able to evaluate the quality of the new hardware wireless device to start off that was all in c# windows forms, then python, then c++, then node.js, node-red. i comment here because in the form display i built in multiple color prompts in the terminal window. very pretty indeed. will share more later. 73s. Phil, thank you for you KZfaq videos and podcasts. In my opinion, you keep us scanner enthusiasts well informed and are always willing to help us. I personally feel overwhelmed. I have nearly every podcast of yours to listen to but a few and I’m way behind and I’m trying to get caught up before you archive them. LOL One question you may be able to answer is, why do scanner vendors not consider Bluetooth builds? WiFi I don’t care much about as others do but with the Bluetooth headphones and speakers that are out and that I own, it would be awesome to be able to use those as opposed to wired headphones. That’s all I’ve really wondered. Maybe it’s an interference issue or something. This scanner looks awesome. I really wish I could afford both the SDS100 and the SDS200 but right now neither is in the budget, sigh. Thank you for all the work you do to keep all of us informed and your willingness to help. Hi Jenny, thanks for the kind words. Don't worry about rushing through the podcasts. Right now, I have no plans on archiving them and will continue to keep them available for download. I'm not sure why scanners don't include Bluetooth. I know people have been asking for a feature like that for a while. I've used bluetooth adapters in the past to add BT to my portable scanners. A piece of velcro and a device like this will easily add BT your scanner radio: amzn.to/2RXTZqL (note - the link above is an affiliate link)

Thanks, that was an interesting over view. I just got back into the hobby after 25 yrs. Much has changed. I'm waiting on a Under SDS 100 . That I chose for the portability over a base model. Did you do a review to follow up the 200? Also would you consider doing a head to head review against the 100? If so I'd definitely be in . Looking forward to learning from you bro!

the 536 and 436 both have an avoid key

Yes they do. I was referring to the placement on the Avoid key but it didn't clearly come out that way.

Do you know what the display resolution is on this and the SDS-100? For example, 380 x 240 pixels(/dots). Please if you know this info, please share it with us. Thanks very much.

Does anyone know how well the SDS200 works with P25 simulcast systems? I’m not real impressed with the BCD996P2 constantly missing and garbled transmissions, despite having a full-scale control channel signal.

That's cause Motorola and general electric and others like tait or kenwood. Like to keep some of the command routing software tdma and Fdma as well as the commands to instantley reroute the receiver in the field flawlessly. All scanners are considered after market and not proprietary so in another words the soft-ware and hardware codex technition engineers are told specifacley not to give the whole programme away. So people like you and I can not get the whole decoding and bit error rate decoder/prolific converter at 100% only the authorized city county or state is given the true programme system software and hardware for there technitions. To repair modifie or update the system as needed to keep people like you and me from being able to 100% access and intercept all repeater communications.

I am interested in getting the Uniden SDS200. Can you tell me what is a good rooftop antenna? I was hoping to not spend several hundred dollars but I don't want a cheap one either.

I don't know Unidens, my Whistler TRX updates my Entire USA & Canada Database and Automatically loads Trunking Systems into my Whistler Scanner.

It does not. But may have a wifi dongle feature in the future.

NO, does NOT have Wifi, it does not have Bluetooth audio. NOR does it have BUILT IN GPS like my ICOM R30 has.

contact sds100 is the same radio as the SDS 200 you're just make it into a mobile version for people that want to mount them in cars...🚓🚒🚑🇺🇸😎

Yes, the desktop/mobile model has always been very similar to the portable model. I'll be sure to do a quick video showing the difference between the SDS100 and the SDS200

Very Disapointed with Uniden, they had an opputunity to Build a Great Scanner from Scratch. the SDS200 is Bull$#%@. its too big and its Missing several important features. #1 - the are using the same Receiver as the sds100, and that one is not EVEN continuous coverage. it has missing gaps in coverage. and I'm NOT talking about Cellular. #2 - its completely missing MW AM reception and its a piss poor FM receiver. it cant even Demodulate CW or SSB . Its lacking the ability to Receive D-star or HAM Radio Digital modes. not Talking about DMR. #3 - Its 2019 , and Uniden sds200 cant even output Bluetooth Audio and it needs a CABLE and Hockey Puck in order to use GPS. Both ICOM are AOR offer scanners with Built in GPS and Bluetooth. #4 - It handles Phase 2 Simulcast ok, but lacks Quality AM, FM, VHF, UHF analog reception. and it CANT Tune Above 1300 Mhz, when its compeditors can tune 3500 mhz and even 5000 MHz . #5 - Lastly, the SDS200 is NOT intelegently designed. Where is the Large TUNING knob ? and why are the Volume and Squelch separate, you can Stack those Controls and save space. Its also missing Different FILTER modes found in Quality scanners.

Umm ,you realize this is just a radio scanner right? From a ham myself I think its a good SCANNER not a communications receiver , but a SCANNER . I dont know what your expecting really lol

@@SuperCritter1 - Just seems LOCICAL to me, if i'm building a Scanner (premium price) , that it does NOT Ignore HAM hobbyists , that the Scanner can tune Below 25 Mhz, Demodulate CW and SSB, and Tune above 1.3 Ghz. I also FIND Scanners annoying that they Completely Ignore the MW AM Band have Missing Gaps in Coverage. I could go on. FACT is both ICOM and AOR make Superior scanners, even though the AOR does not work.

#1 - it's a scanner. It's not a general coverage receiver like AOR or any of the big ham radio manufacturers. #2 - See #1. Also, the SDS100 FM is great to me. Also, for more digital modes, this means more cost. There is a possibility that Uniden just can't get the license for Dstar. #3 - If Uniden were to pack more features into a scanner, you're looking at a possible bigger unit and much higher cost. $700 is already really high just for a scanner. #4 - The reception of analog modes for the SDS100 and the SDS200 seems to be great. It sounds like maybe you have a defective unit? Again, it's a Uniden scanner not AOR or icom or Kenwood or Yaesu. #5 - There are a few minor design issues I have but I'm glad the volume and squelch are separate. Easier to adjust one thing instead of accidentally adjusting both or the wrong one.

TJ Whitt - Scanners today use cheap Receiver Boards, that are not sensitive and have piss poor Reception. They have GLARING omissions in Radio Spectrum , that a 1990, Scanner can do BETTER. They are also missing the AM Broadcast band and missing all the Analog HAM and Digital HAM modes. Scanners today lack any kind of Audio Filtering to improve Reception or even a Simple Bass/Trebble tone adjustment. And it’s very HARD to adjust RF gain on the fly, as it’s buried in menu. Furthermore scanners today lack any kind of Built in GPS support, a cable and GPS hockey puck is so 1990’s. No Bluetooth as well from Uniden or Whistler. Scanners don’t scan fast enough, R30 Scans in Voice mode at 200 ch a second, and I have modded my 1990 scanners to scan at 300 ch a second.

@@markplott4820 I agree that its nothing special , from a AOR Radio owner myself I can tell you it way outperforms the sds 100, however it doesn't compete with the sds 100 when it comes to p25 trunking, dmr,and all other digital modes not avaible on communication receivers. But I have an old AOR radio, It's the AOR AR3000A , its a very good radio so I see your point.
