In November of 1959 my parents traded our beloved ❤ 1950 Nash Ambassador for a gleaming black 1955 DeSoto Firedome just out of service from a local funeral home. It was delightful 😊, delivery, and definitely DeSoto, as the advertising song said. I learned to drive in that car and loved it. Parents passed up chances to trade for a 1959 Adventurer and a new 1961 black DeSoto. Much to my despair, they traded that gorgeous 1955 for a 1962 Plymouth Belvedere (one of the ugliest cars ever built). After the trade, the DeSoto sat on the front row of the dealership for several weeks. Every time we drove past, 😒 I wanted to cry. Would so love to have a black 1961 DeSoto!!! I believe only about 3200 1961s were produced, BUT I can dream!

My aunt and uncle had one of these when I was a boy! It was a two tone green!

The 55 Desoto we had as a loaner was yellow and white, at 10 years old I wanted my parents to keep it.......the 57 Plymouth 2 door sedan was repaired (engine) and it came back.

When I was 16 in 1975, I scraped together $250 and purchased a 1955 De Soto Firedome, intending to use the Hemi within on another vehicle to be named later. But I absolutely fell in love with it! After breaking the driveshaft through 16 year old foolishness, I regretfully traded it for a '63 Dodge Polara, an infinitely inferior car.

55 was one high water mark for Chrysler and Imperial. Imo

That might not be the best-looking car I've ever seen but it is WAY up there!

Were thin or wide white walls standard then? Videographers ALWAYS pan too fast, can't absorb and appreciate the art of this piece of automotive history that way. Sorry.
