It was his own choice. Miramax tried to sign him to a five picture deal, but he refused, and turned down a lot of roles like The Pianist and Quills because he preferred stage work. He's doing just fine as part of The Handmaid's Tale

Fabulously made costumes, and perfect matching of fabric designs to finish the garments to continue the accurate repeat of the pattern in the finished garment. However, it is without a doubt the most historically inaccurate movie I have ever seen. Her favorite lady "Cat" ( shown in this scene "blushing" when asked if she was in love) was actually historically 30 years older than Elizabeth and was actually her governess at a time as she grew up. A TON of other inaccuracies in the historical timeline, but the acting was superb, and the costumes were stunning and sewn to perfection. Having been a seamstress for over 63 years, I have specialized in period recreations for private as well as public viewing. It is all in the details and it is done masterfully. A joy to see as long as it is NOT viewed as historically accurate.

It was true when Elizabeth was crowned queen everyone even a few Catholics cheered on Elizabeth as they believed she would be kinder to the two Tudor sisters. Right? No? Maybe. Elizabeth had proven she was very clever and has a red hot tempered as her father said, "Hey! I may be a woman, but I am the ruler of my country as England is my wife!" That is how she reminded them who is really in charge of her country. It wasn't easy, but she survived through plots, men and enemies alike. A prime example of how she is the main woman who did her job right.

I don't like how the reputation of Robert Dudley was trashed in this movie. And he was entirely missing from the sequel when he actually was very much involved with preparations for the arrival of the Armada and was leading the troops at Tilbury. He was next to Elizabeth's side when she gave her famous speech.

Some of these costumes were previously used in DANGEROUS BEAUTY (1999) - by the courtesans. The three red ones. I remember them vividly. They are those in which the harlots appeared in front of the French King Henry who summoned them because he wanted to see what was so spectacular about Venetian whores.

I thought I recognised them, I love Dangerous Beauty. What's really cool is that back when I was an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 my friend Sara who was also an extra was given one of Cate Blanchet's bodices from Elizabeth as part of her costume. It's awesome to see where these stunning costumes end up.

@@LondonMermaid Yes. You are right in every way. Many of the fabulous costumes are reused in different productions. Franco Zefferelli's production of Romeo & Juliet in 1969-70 released in America after Europe was absolutely incredible! They are in a museum in Italy, and some in a private costume collection in Japan. It's fun to hunt these wonderful works of art down so we can study their workmanship!

Dizem que Elizabeth costumava visitar os aposentos de Dudley todas as noites, mesmo quando ele era casado, só que eles eram discretos e Elizabeth pouco se importava com fofocas e falatórios.

In real life, researchers generally believe that even if they were having an affair, Elizabeth and Dudley never had sex. Partially for this very reason. A pregnancy out of wedlock would have ruined Elizabeth. But also, Elizabeth was constantly surrounded by her ladies and other members of her household/court. She basically had no real private life. So an affair of this nature could have never actually taken place.
