Aspiring singer Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) is about to discover he is the only person on Earth who remembers the legendary band, the Beatles. After his release from the hospital following a bus accident, Ellie Appleton (Lily James) gifts him a guitar. Jack plays one of the Beatles’ iconic hits, “Yesterday,” and his friends wonder how he came up with it. Maybe his troubles aren't that far away...
Film Synopsis:
Jack Malik was just another struggling songwriter...but that was yesterday. After a mysterious blackout, Jack (Himesh Patel) discovers he is the only person on earth who remembers The Beatles! As he rockets to fame by passing off the Fab Four's songs as his own, Jack risks losing Ellie (Lily James) - the one person who has loved him and believed in him from the start. Before the door to his old life closes forever, Jack must decide if all he needs is love, after all. Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran also star in this romantic rock 'n' roll comedy from Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Richard Curtis.

Liked it too. Actually, was not into rock before seeing this movie. Made me discover the work of the Beatles - more than yellow submarine (wich I genuinely dislike) and Here Comes the Sun. Now I'm a young rock lover, learning guitar. I'm glad I watched this movie that one night with my parents. Now, I'm the old guy in high school 😂

In this movie, I could suspend my disbelief regarding a magical world where no one heard of the Beatles. However, it is utterly IMPOSSIBLE to believe that the main character wouldnt be immediately madly in love with Lily James.

In the original concept for this movie, he has all the Beatles songs but still can't get popular. It was a comment on how time, place and the social climate are all contributors to music's success.
@alexhodgkinson6718
@alexhodgkinson6718 9 ай бұрын
I'd much prefer this. The Beatles are mainly beloved for what they did for music. If they didn't exist music would not be the same today, which makes this film paradoxical. And if they *were* to somehow never have existed and started out today, their music wouldn't be as big as it was. Music has moved on from that era. I and many others would like the music but they would not be the global phenomenon they were. And that's where the film loses me.

That was because I'd be listening to the radio on a car journey and the music would come on the radio and I'd be completely transfixed by it. It grounds the scene in the real world and maybe reminds us of a particular time when we heard Yesterday and it had a special resonance for us. Also, this was the first time I really was struck by Lily James' loveliness - probably because she was in everyday clothes and she sparkled in them anyway.

One of my favorite movies of all time. After this movie, I listened to nothing but the beatles for a year straight. I knew of them before hand but never appreciated their music until after I had watched the movie.

This movie is amazing, because it is about The Beatles without being a biopic. The actors, the music, the humor and the process of reinventing the legendary songs - what can be better than that! And Lily James of course. And they had an amazing scene with Ana de Armas but something went wrong apparently.

A friend is an obsessive McCartney fan. I advised him against seeing this movie. He went with his wife anyway and walked out mid way through it. As great as this movie is, it isn't for everyone.

I really like this movie and have seen it three or four times now. I wonder, though, if it would have been more interesting if he remembered and published all these songs and only became a niche pop artist instead of a global sensation. Like, he was huge in Japan, but only marginally famous in the States and the UK. Probably would have to be a series instead of a movie to explore everything. Or maybe not. Just thinking out loud.

I recall 51, now. Timeless song for all of us, thanks for sharing Paul, etc. :) Big hard move, thank you too, like all our tributes through your eyes. At least we shared. :) It's now Mozart, Eddie Van Halen. Love this movie. For making us love the things we love. :) Without excuse. :) In my life Microsoft, Google. Technology! I got offered a job writing search, this would scare me. :) Now we contemplate A.I.
