She seems very well spoken, thoughtful, intelligent, brave, decent, and very well deserving of giving her speech as long as it was reviewed and accepted by the university. If they told her to make changes those change suggestions should be FAIR and also be reviewed and deemed as necessary and the WHY behind them given. I hope this whole thing allows her to go on an even bigger press tour and share her thoughts and beliefs to an even BIGGER audience.

If the USC tradition has been to allow the valedictorian to give an address on a topic of their choice, then this young woman needs to be afforded that opportunity, and USC has an obligation to provide adequate protection for her and those in the audience. One of the things that makes Israel superior to its surrounding Arab neighbors is that, in Israel, you can criticize the government's actions. That is a value we seem to be losing in the United States.

Thank goodness this valedictorian recognizes and has stated that there is NO free speech "RIGHT" to give a validictory address ... AND that it is therefore a PRIVILEGE to be able to give such a speech ... which also NEEDS to be on a topic EVERYONE can embrace. Good for her -- she's already ahead of several of her spoiled brat classmates who are having a snowflake hissy fit -- idiotically and incorrectly claiming that her "free speech rights" are being denied her. (As an aside, I'm frankly very surprised that the "valedictorian" has already been identified so soon prior to final exams. At large universities [such as USC] with large graduating classes, there are ALWAYS at least a handful of top-tier students whose GPAs are 4.0 or in the 3.9++ range within thousandths of a percentage point of one another, and for whom even "just one" final exam at the end of senior year can and will decide whether they finish as the "top" graduating senior or someone else will. Typically, therefore, in large graduating classes particularly, the graduating senior holding the "top cumulative GPA" is NOT identified until the week between the end of final exams and graduation. That is, unless, the "valedictorian" at USC -- as is true at some other colleges and universities -- is no longer the graduating senior with "THE" best GPA but is instead merely a graduating senior possessing a "very good" or "high enough" GPA [undefined] coupled with other DEI attributes. There is a small part of me that does "feel sorry" somewhat for this young lady and her family. She has no doubt worked hard throughout her college years. She is now learning, however, the equally hard lessons that "life isn't always 'fair' ... and actions and choices have consequences." She was always free to articulate her views publicly on various issues -- and she has done so without prohibition or censoring on her social media. BUT perhaps the extremism of some of her views/links in support of certain views elevated to a level of grave concern for the University Administration that is RESPONSIBLE for ensuring the ENJOYMENT BY ALL of the graduation ceremony (all graduates, regardless of GPA, have earned that), and most importantly, the SAFETY and SECURITY from violence/danger for all. Those latter considerations outweigh the desire of a top-level graduate to have her platform to speak. Perhaps had she worried more about her schoolwork and less about posting opinions for the world to see, these security concerns would have not arisen. Perhaps also, "IF" she were willing to provide a copy of her valedictory address to USC Administrators far enough in advance, there would be an opportunity to include it either in the printed graduation program, or at least as an insert to said Commencement Exercises Program.

Celebrating your accomplishment shouldn't become an ideological platform for pushing world political agendas if those ideologies had zero impact on being a better student and receiving a better education, or contain no forward looking statements from such ideologies on how to live a better life. And it's clear her ideologies were Muslim extremism based, intolerant, dehumanizing and aggressive towards Jews, and were meant to sway people to her ideological viewpoints. That doesn't belong on campuses from a Valedictorian at any public school, large or small.
