These men have lived in the world espionage almost all of their lives. They maintain the game even unto death, that is dedication! This was such a great depiction of veteran spies.

Love this scene. He's all ready to torture him for the information, but when he realizes that's no longer possible, he pays him the greatest compliment, "You did. The best of us always do."

It's interesting how absurdly awful some people's memories are. How could you possibly misquote something you just watched?

I realized that this scene has a lot in common with the opening sequence from Blade Runner 2049. Something boiling on the stove, the tension, the silence, and the faux affibility of the guy who comes to kill the other. The subtle interrogation, and the exchange of kind words before the shit hits the fan.

This scene is superb! I truly love it. Please, note how the old German spy offers his guest a drink. He contemplates suicide, but, if the American guest didn't refuse, I bet he could have be dead as well. What I mean is, I'm almost sure the old spy would have poison his guest, and then commit suicide (he could have used his guest's gun - and that would have been an easier death, I presume).
