This video is about a cathedral people created that believed all of creation was founded on the principals of geometry, and thus they built a cathedral to their guiding principals. The building is designed with two simple shapes in mind, the square and the circle. The building is quite simple in concept composed of two main parts. The nucleus of the composition is a long tall functional core called the nave. And the second, and most critical part is the flanking symmetrical structural system. The nave is where the most historically elegant of all shapes is celebrated - the circle. Circular windows, appear in cathedrals across the west. The classical name is the Rose windows. Four rose windows adorn the massive nave. The windows are not only circular but employ the circle throughout the design. The windows are set in massive translucent walls. Like other cathedrals of the world the nave is flanked by columns, however, these are columns of light. The windows are simple in shape. They accentuate the verticality of the space and yet dare not compete with the delicate nature of the rose windows at either end. The forces generated by the tall slender nave create the need for structural buttressing. The flying buttresses, much like those throughout history, are massive soaring forms that repeat along the length of the structure. They serve to brace the central portion of the building as well as house office and worship spaces along and inside the cathedral structure. The building peacefully floats above the ground taking advantage of the gravity free environment that exists in my mind, and if you like, in the minds of those that with imagination. But why or how? No matter. The mind is an infinite playground for the invisible or implausible. However, sometimes thoughts become real. But this, after all, is not. It’s just a drawing by an architect of an unlikely piece of architecture. I’m Doug Patt we’ll see you next time.

Good video, sir. There's an old saying: "You gotta have a dream to have a dream come true." A building that is conceived with nothing but practicality, and function, in mind may work well, but it will be unlikely to delight the soul. A building that starts as a fantasy of delightful forms may actually fill certain practical needs. Architecture is mercilessly married to engineering, but the couple have to compromise if all human needs are to be met, the practical, and the spiritual.

It might be possible in future considering these skyscrapers planned in Dubai secured by sattelite like structures similar to the spacial elevator plan.

Yes. I created the building in ArchiCAD and used Twinmotion for the materials and animation.

Hi, Ar. Patt. A fellow Architect here, and I was wondering, is it ok to throw some ideas for this series of yours? I would like to pitch some of my ideas. Thank you in advance.
