Diane is the definition of narcissism. The way she continually smiles and laughs proves she's guilty. She has shown absolutely no remorse at all. And the fact that her daughter identified her as the shooter pretty much sealed her fate, but way before the daughter's statement, everyone knew she was guilty as sin.

For a Narcisist as Diane 20m talk and all the data colected from court transcripts is not enough time given to her person. For a book to be produced about what she did - Diane would expect the author to be at her comand, lissening to her rubish for hours and hours. No. It’s not. They shouldn’t have had to be adopted and shouldn’t have lost a sister. They shouldn’t have to live with what their mother did. What would have been sweet is if they had a normal mother in which they would’ve had a chance for a normal life without a terrible childhood experience causing who knows how much mental problems for who knows how much time before moving on with their lives. I pray no child or children have to ever experience this kind of tragedy due to a mother’s own insanity ever again. I also pray that the seven year old girl Rest In Peace God bless her sweet soul.

My father was an attorney in Eugene during this time. He knew the prosecutor who adopted the two surviving kids. Prosecutor commented on the fact that Diane Downs drove VERY slowly to the Marcola hospital. The nurse who helped them at the hospital was appalled at how she was more interested in her injured arm than he dying children. The daughter who survived had a second stroke after she testified against her mom in court. Brave little girl.

I live in a state neighboring Oregon, and we have lonely old roads exactly like the one Diane was on. During the day there was probably traffic on the road but at night it would be so isolated that only someone that lived out in that area would have been on it. If I accidently over stayed on a visit to a friends house and had to drive that road to get back home, I would be scared, it would be dark out there at night with no street lights and only a few sparse farmhouses along the way and they almost always have long winding narrow little driveways. The sight of a bushy haired stranger leaping out of the darkness to get my attention would send me instantly into a panic and I would be going as fast as that kind of road would allow to get away from him. There would be no stopping, no chatting, and certainly no brave little old me getting out of the car to see what he wanted. I mean that isn't evidence, but I bet 99% of women and a good share of men hearing her story about that simply could not believe it. It just wasn't a realistic scenario.

I think her mother spoiled her rotten and when others didn’t or she had to give of herself, she just couldn’t deal with it. It was all about her growing up. Do not over compliment your kids at every little thing. An example is complimenting them for something that they should be doing anyway, like eating their dinner. I see so much coddling and complimenting kids today no wonder they grow up thinking everyone else is beneath them. Couple this with letting them get away with lies and you got a sociopath.

@@Dustandfuzz That’s not valid! There’s absolutely no studies done that says there’s a correlation between over coddling your children and sociopaths. Sociopaths are usually born that way! Their brains are wired differently. As a behavior therapist it’s important to raise children who are confident and believe in themselves! Of course maladaptive behaviors need punishment. But we need to be more proactive as parents to prevent children from acting out of control and or behaviors that are undesirable. This means positive behavior supports, etc.,

Anne Rule gasped at her "tear-stained face" comment, because Anne knows that was a monster lie. It's been well documented that Downs is such the epitome of a sociopath, she can't even fake cry. The emotion is THAT foreign to her. Downs is old and grey now and still lying about it. When my daughter died I'm sure more than a few people thought it was strange how I reacted when speaking about her or her death. But Diane's eyes tell the truth, that woman's face lights up like a child on Christmas when she talks about it sometimes! And the way she calls the kids lucky while saying she's unlucky by cause she couldn't tie her shoes for a few weeks. 👀 I was so distraught that even though I would smile or laugh at inappropriate times, I could NEVER think of saying something that cold. I remember doing things like choosing clothes and eating or drinking made me feel guilty because my daughter couldn't anymore. A grieving parent tends to feel unlucky because of what they CAN do, not the other way around. A grieving parent would be willing to be trade being tortured every single day if it meant that child could come back and live a normal life during that time. It's horrible helpless feeling that I wouldn't wish on any loving parent.

I was 6 in '88. Sometimes depending on how sensitive the topic of the show was, my grandmother would watch this whiles we had dinner. It's amazing how over 30 years ago, styling which was normal looks so strange now. Eventhough I was a little kid back then,it was fun times.

Yep it is so odd to be returned to that time and see the styles. The murderer's dress would have been the height of fashion (how on earth did she even manage to dress like that while in prison, even for a telly show?) yet now we can se how hideous it all looks.

Oprah used to have a good show in the late 80s and early 90s - had a knack for keeping her pulse on topics the people wanted to hear, leading to many others emulating what she did. She would bring attention to cases, get exclusive interviews, and often go out of her way to hear the stories from the middle and lower classes of America when no one else would listen. I remember my uncle and his family going on her show in the early 90s because she had heard that their house burnt down and lost everything - the farm, the home, all belongings, etc. and she brought them on to hear their story and help them. She also did a brief interview with family members on my dad’s side of the family who helped give shelter to an abused boy that was friends with my cousin. I’ve tried finding the videos, but I do believe they’re just lost to time. She was always doing something and trying to hear the other side, giving a voice to those that needed it and bringing on those who needed to be exposed. Nowadays, though … she’s kinda’ secluded herself with all of her money and largely covering stories that aren’t in tune with average people anymore. Don’t get me wrong, she still tries to connect and share others’ stories, but the way she goes about it now is wildly different compared to when she was just a talk show host during television’s prime time era. I still consider her the greatest solely for that time as no one has come close and been able to last as long as she, but man do I miss that era of Oprah.

Diane is a beautiful woman. And, according to Ann, she is bright. What I'm trying to say is that I don't think she was BORN a monster. She was made. I'm sure she went through hell as a child. So, in a way, she is a victim. I hope she realizes that before she dies. I doubt it though. I saw her latest parole request and she was literally talking the same way.

Do you notice how hyper-focused she is on Anne even when she's asked a question that has nothing to do with Anne's book? People like her need an enemy to take the focus off of what they did. If she can keep coming back to something she think Anne did wrong, then she doesn't have to answer to the real issue... what horrible thing she did wrong.
