In this talk, David Pawson looks at groups of psalms which should be taken together. Psalms 96 to 99 have the theme: God is King; 113 to 118 are sung together at the Passover. The word ‘hosanna’ from 118 is actually a demand for freedom - ‘save us’. The Songs of Ascent 120 to 134 were to be sung as the Jews travelled up to Jerusalem. The final group is 146 to 150 which are all Hallelujah songs. From groups, David moves on to types of psalms - Pleas - a cry from the heart; Thank you - gratitude for deliverance; and Sorry psalms - penitence - which all have a particular form or pattern. David points out that there are 4 categories of psalms. #1 Royal Psalms written by King David which deal with reigning from his personal perspective. #2 Messianic Psalms which prophesy about the coming Messiah. #3 Wisdom Psalms - the result of quiet meditation, full of practical wisdom for handling life. #4 Imprecatory Psalms (calling down vengeance on enemies) - David reminds us that they didn’t have the knowledge that we have of Jesus’ teaching or the afterlife. At least, they were honest; and they left vengeance to God himself. One day God will avenge those who’ve been wronged.
David also has a book on this series find out more here: www.davidpawson.co.uk/search/...

Listened to the story about the lady cursed God and got healed, remind me what God did to me. I had back pain for many years after a fetal car accident. I did not curse God but crying for healing from Holy Spirit. It happened to me one night when I was praying for healing - Holy Spirit flooded me from my head to my toes. The pain was gone. This was 36 years ago. My back pain has been gone since that day.

Hehe thanks for clarifying the word Osha'na from Psalm 118. This is the first English speaking Christian I heard to finally clarify this word. As a Hebrew speaking beleiver it always bothers me that it gets distorted.

Thankyou David that explains a lot , especially Hosannah . Praise the Lord for your wife 's healing and Gods encouragement at that time. We need to saturate ourselves in the Word ( and Davids teaching ) before hardships overcome us , to be strong for times of testing . We need to give thanks always . K

New Zealanders learn thanks at a young age. I was visiting there a few years ago and driving thru the countryside listening to the radio on christmas day. The children were calling the radio station to thank father chridtmas for the gifts they had received. I was really touched by this difference in culture.

God Himself says in the Psalms and other books that our enemies will be humiliated/crushed/cut-off, so don’t be surprised by the words of God’s people in the Psalms. They are simply affirming what God has said that he will do and putting faith in Him. We Christians can be far too soft; thinking that we should just forgive everyone and let people walk all over us. Don’t forgive the wicked and have love for those who do not repent of their actions.
